Chapter 1 of Leviathan, Read Aloud!

August 28th, 2009

Back in late July, I blogged about visiting the recording session for the Leviathan audio book. I got to meet and hang out with Alan Cumming, the voice talent for the audio version, and listen to him work.

And now you do too!

Leviathan has two main characters, one Scottish and one Austrian, which makes Alan perfect for the role. He’s Scottish himself, so no problem there, and he gained fame in the US for his role in Cabaret, so we knew he could do Germanic accents as well. He’s a very dramatic reader, especially in the giant battle scene I heard, so all the explosions and derring-do that are my forte are going to sound awesome. All in all, it was a for-the-win casting choice. Thanks to everyone at S&S Audio for being so frickin’ smart.

Anyway, here’s a sneak preview:

Listen to Chapter One of the audio!

Afterword, read by me (Many spoilers!)

OMG like I haven’t commented in forever! I’ve kept up with reading the blog, just not the commenting part. Yay, it’s finnally the weekend! I had a cool first week of Sophomore year, other than the fact that I have no classes or lunch with my friend, and that Savanna has strangly been ignoring me… I’ve tried to say hi at lunch, but she just looks away or acts like I don’t exist!!! She just sits there and talks with her new friends. I am just shocked. She won’t respond to my texts either!! What is going on here??? I’m worried.

Fexcellent. I loved it. Alan Cumming is a master of voice craft. The perfect choice for a master or word craft! It’s a gorgeous pairing. I think I’ll get the audiobook, even though I’m going to get the book, just because I can’t wait for him to finish reading to me! Mind you, I’ve no audiobooks. But this one… *knees weaken* I need it. So. Good.

Dying for Leviathan to come!!! Gah!!

Thanks so much for the upload; as well as the literary genius of yourself, and the vocal genius of Alan Cummings (whom I adore) this is truly… awesome.

Wow scott-la. You’ve gone from having 200-some comments to like, fifty, in a year. Jeez.
Anyway, awesome-possum. Alan Cumming is fawesome, and I think I’ll read Levithan even if it doesn’t seem that interesting. Just because it’s written by you – so you better feel special, mister! D:<

Nicole-wa: I feel deeply (deeeeeeeeeeply) sorry for you! Freshman years always suck, but at least you have something to look forward to…the end…or the exciting possibilites in the middle…(I’ve been sitting around for awhile, sorry for the bleakness ;) )

Alex-wa: Good luck with sophmore year! Good luck with Savanna too, maybe she didn’t really see you? Or maybe she’s going all Tally on you (heh) : )
(I’m still on summer break *laughs evilly*)
Farewell, I will listen to these when (if) they load!

Wow! That was so cool. When Alan started reading I was at the edge of my seat. I could picture it so well, better than reading it from the Free Uglies download. There was only one thing that I thought was particularly interesting, I thought that Count Volgaur was more nasal than that. Oh, well. I guess that’s just me.

Oh, I hope not. But you’ll get a certain amount of crazies when any book’s made into a movie. Which sucks. It’s the only part of the movie I’m not looking forward to.

(I might be new here, but I’m not a newbie when it comes to general Westerness.)

Ha ha. I predict this twilight-carry-over-fangirl reaction: ‘Scott, you should TOTALLY write a vampire novel!’

…And we’ll all be snickering in the corner.

But aside from that, we all know that Scott doesn’t write smexy abusive vampires, so surely Uglies will attract a different fanbase?

I’m having the same problem as someone else–the afterword is loading faster than the chapter. Alan Cumming sounds awesome, but I’ve just remembered that I’ve never had much patience with audiobooks.

And, to make this comment even longer, when do us Aussies get Leviathan? Same day? Different?

btw he already has and they were waaaay fawesomer than twilight (that sucked) scott-la is a much better author anyway his books could never end up like those unappreciated twilight fans!!!!!!!!!! sorry hate those books and those people.
P.S.- scott-la i will ask again will u please write another midnighers book?

I really hate to say this, but the person narrating the book sounded a bit dull, and I am pretty sure this book is NOT dull, its just that voice. uggh well boring voice aside, the book chapter was pretty good.
