New York Trilogy Repackaged

September 1st, 2009

Before I sink completely into Leviathan-mania, I want to point out that it’s now possible to buy my New York trilogy in their shiny new packages. The covers were designed by Rodrigo Corral, who designed the Uglies series, and they are beautiful.

Check them out:

I really like the urban poetry of these covers, and the odd palettes as well. Each one has its own interesting mix of colors. The other cool thing is that the new books are a sweet small size, 7″ x 5″ (17.8cm x 12.7cm), and thus are very cute little paperbacks.

I’m not sure if you can order these online yet, because it’s hard to make sure what you’ll cover you get on the internets. So the best bet is a bricks-and-mortar bookstore if you want. (You can use Indie Bound to find the nearest independent.)

If you want to check out more of Rodrigo Corral’s work, just click here.

Sorry, that was like a personal best for me. I suppose that waking up at the ungodly hour of 8:00 AM DOES have its rewards…
I really love the new packages for the NY trilogy, Scott-la, although one thing puzzles me. Living in the UK, I have never, ever found ‘So Yesterday’, but it’s quite easy to find ‘Peeps’ and ‘Last Days’. This is kinda weird, seeing as they are in a trilogy, and all.
I’ll be sure to check out the cover artist’s stuff, though.
    He looks gritty.

Yeah, it’s pretty hard to find SY in Aus as well, but if you dig, it is possible. BTW, I highly reccomend SY as one of the best books I have ever read. EVER!

Oh yeah! Are there any plans for a NY Trilogy boxed set?

Fantastic covers! I already have copies of Peeps and The Last Days, but those are two titles I constantly recommend to folks, so they can enjoy these covers. And since I haven’t yet read So Yesterday, I get to enjoy a new cover, too.

On a related note, by New York Trilogy, does this mean that you have no immediate plans to write another novel set in the milieu of Peeps and The Last Days?

Hmmm, pretttyyy. Especially So Yesterday. Really, I think I like all the covers better than the old ones (except So Yesterday’s was okay, actually. Weird) even if they do match a little too much for books that aren’t all *actually* a series.
But what can I say, I’m just weird about books where the author’s name is bigger than the title. Pretty photographs though, and definitely cooler than the mostly black-and-white people Peeps cover, even if they aren’t as relevant to the book.

Are they really an actual trilogy? I love all three books, but I don’t get it. What am I missing? What does So Yesterday have to do with the other two?

I didn’t really like them until you said smaller size. I ♥ small books! They’re awesome! I’ll have to put the new cover of So Yesterday on my wishlist.

True, Anna, it’s not really a trilogy. I just call it that because all three are set in NYC, are in first person, and were part of the same publishing deal. But only Peeps and The Last Days are actually related, narrative-wise.

Not to be a grump or anything, but I like the original covers of Peeps and Last Days better. I’m ambivalent about the So Yesterday cover; it look’s nice, but I’d have to compare it with the older one, which my advanced age is not remembering.

Great covers! I just finished reading So Yesterday, and I love how much it reminded me of Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. What really got me though was Hunter’s description of the people writing first novels set in coffee shops while in coffee shops. For a second I thought “it sounds like Hunter doesn’t like people who write in coffee shops” and I was mildly offended before I realized I wasn’t actually reading a book written by Hunter, but by you. Congrats on character realism! :P

    Scott -

Thanks for explaining that, I just suddenly thought I had missed something major and was terribly confused :)

I do like the new covers, they seem to fit the style of the books a little more than the old ones. Not that I don’t like the old covers; I do, but these are very active and interesting. The old covers, especially of Peeps and TLD, were a little more generic, what with every second YA book having pretty people on the cover these days.

    Lol, I agree with Rachel.

So Yesterday was the best. I liked the old cover best, but this one’s still pretty sweet. All of the covers are, actually. Can you buy the trilogy in a box set?

I hope you don’t mind an off-topic comment, but I’d just like to ask if you would be interested in joining an advice community for writers on Livejournal. It would basically be a community for unpublished writers to ask questions about the industry, so that published writers like you could answer some hot topics. It’s a blogging site, so it has a format similar to this one, but with more social networking abilities.

You wouldn’t have to write constantly in it, but just when you feel that you have a bit of advice for aspiring writers that you’d like to share.

If you’re interested in joining, please contact me on Livejournal. The link to my profile is ohshityo.livejournal.com/profile (yes, I know my username is just lovely). Send me a private message if you’re interested.

LOVE these covers. Gorgeous. I couldn’t help giggling a little over Last Days, though, as it seems to read THE LAST SCOTT WESTERFELD DAYS. I hear that’s what happens when you kill a beloved character. ;-)

I like the old covers of the books (mostly because I have them, so I have to like them) but these are totally artsy! I think they’d draw more attention too.

libba: that’s hilarious. (I’ve read a few books, and in the acknowledgments, if Scott-la is mentioned it’s always (Spoiler) Scott ‘I Killed Zane’ Westerfeld)

Those look so cool! Too bad I already own all three….

It always confuzzles me when they’re referred to as “The New York Trilogy.” Technically, So Yesterday is completely unrelated to Peeps and TLD, and Peeps and TLD are very loosely related, more like companion novels.

    gorgeous covers!! i love them!

and zane might have a cooler name, but that’s like judging a book by its cover…and let’s face it, in the first few chapters tally spent time with zane, he made several references to how he had spent a lot of time in the pleasure gardens, et cetera…

I know what you mean… but I did like Zane. I was so sad that he died, though. But David was… ahem, ‘awesomesauce’.

    ***SPOILERS***

Scott, did you always know that Zane was going to die? Or did you write it and then sit back and take a look and go WAT?

I don’t think I can really justify buying them with the new covers EVEN THOUGH I like them soooo much… (Okay, maybe I can justify getting So Yesterday cos I have the ARC of that, therefore I didn’t pay money… but still.)
I really love the new covers though (and size – whoaw).

That was a good write-up. I do not agree with every single thing that you said but still great nonetheless. On a side note, I am so thrilled that the NFL is back. It seems like I been patiently waiting forever. This has to be my favorite time of the year. Sorry, I’m rambling. lol

I am glad for writing to make you know of the useful encounter my cousin’s girl experienced checking your site. She mastered a lot of pieces, including how it is like to have an excellent giving style to let many others with ease fully understand selected problematic matters. You actually exceeded my expected results. Thanks for distributing those priceless, dependable, informative not to mention cool tips on your topic to Gloria.
