I like her. I think that all her bad decisions make her seem more human.... She's not that bad.

She is not likable at all.

If she were real, I don't think I would be friends with her.

I like she, because shes realistic. Not so a Superwoman without flaw. And I think this make she sympathetic. But sometimes it anonning.

But I hate Shay, particularly in Specials.

Without Shay, there would be no Tally.

She becomes friends with Tally
Become Friends with Zane and got Tally into the Crims
She inadvertently made Tally betray the Smoke.

So what did you think of Pretty Tally in there?

She should of had more pointed features.

POTATO!!!!!!!! Oh wait whats the question? Oh yeah tally. I don't really like her that much.

I like Tally. She reminds me of myself in quite a few ways. And other people as well. Im sure most people who hate her see some of themselves in her, whether they want to admit to it or not.

I agree fanna.

Here's what will happen to tally if she comes within 1 kilometer of me: death by lightning, out of the blue, with no warning.
Other than that, I'm have no outstanding issues with her, she's human.

Nice arguments...good to see the Uglies series getting some new notes.

Yeah, I don't want tally anywhere near me, but I have no outstanding issues with her character, Scott portrayed as being very human.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: PrettyLifeIsForMe on January 07, 2013, 08:41:18 AM
I like Tally, I find that she's very easy to relate to.  I don't think she's as narcissistic and vain as everyone thinks she is, I think she's more a product of the society she was raised in.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Luna Lovegood on January 07, 2013, 09:57:54 AM
Really? Because Shay's not as bad.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Terezi Pyrope on January 07, 2013, 08:27:21 PM
She wasn't the most like able character in the books that would've been Az, Andrew or Zane.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Straif on January 23, 2013, 06:58:52 AM
Pardon me while I laugh my ass off. Honestly, the only really likable characters didn't show up until Extras. And one of them was the hovercam!
(but maybe thats cause I want on SO BAD...I'd trick it out with professional grade lifters so it could pull me along, and store all my school stuff on it, maybe stick in a three-barreld submachine gun into the side...)
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Straif on January 23, 2013, 07:15:59 AM
Andrew as pretty funny, aye. And Ren was probably my favorite honestly.

Hey, it works for Hester Shaw...
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Straif on January 23, 2013, 07:23:55 AM
Mortal Engines? Score. Trust me, its good. Its like the Hunger Games...except BETTER really.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Straif on January 23, 2013, 01:14:20 PM
Heh...and, I guess it's all in perspective. They're as emotionally shaking as HG to be sure, with as much death (and most of them are actually pretty damn brutal compaired to HG), so I think it's better.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Straif on January 23, 2013, 01:40:19 PM
That's Mortal Engines for sure. Admittedly its a little slower in parts than HG but they make up for it with the world.
Also, be warned; in Mortal Engines, NO ONE is safe. I repeat NO ONE. No sheets of Katniss-level plot armor for these guys...
As for where to get them...check Amazon or eBay if neccicary. OR, I think, Gavin put up a link to an online version of the first book somewhere.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Straif on January 23, 2013, 01:54:20 PM
Well, Mortal Engines has a psudo-omnisentient narration. It jumps around all over the place. We hear from the protagonists, from the enemies, from INANIMATE OBJECTS (sorta)...

That's fair. Well, the original series isn't going anywhere. It was printed like, 8 years ago. You have plenty of time.

I'm going to regret asking, but does Tally do anything really terrible in Specials or Extras? I'm almost done with Pretties and I'm still unsure of my opinion of her.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Straif on January 23, 2013, 02:15:20 PM
No. Nothing terrible. She just acts stupid as always.
Title: Re: You....yes you!

She's a moron.  :P
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: TractionEra on January 23, 2013, 02:19:37 PM
Then it depends how stupid she is then. I mean, she wasn't bright enough to chew grass when faced by a nerve-frying barrier so she can't be too bright.

I'm glad to see our heroine is so widely adored.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Straif on January 23, 2013, 02:40:25 PM
I think its because we can compair her to other characters who are more badass.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Straif on January 23, 2013, 02:44:24 PM
Katniss, Hester Shaw (of course) Kathrine de Vrise, Briar Wilkes, HOLLY SHORT...list goes on.
Oh and Annabeth. Can't forget Annabeth.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Straif on January 23, 2013, 02:51:18 PM
Do so, its good. Simply put; Compaired to just about anyone, Tally is unlikeable.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: TractionEra on January 23, 2013, 02:52:01 PM
I see what you mean. A 700-year-old 12-year-old has more wits about her after being washed between the ears than Tally has at any given moment.

Did you read nix's keys to the kingdom traction?
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: TractionEra on January 25, 2013, 03:17:34 PM
Yes, I am very fond of them.

---

Okay, I didn't think Tally could get any dumber, but wow, becoming Special hit her hard. Now she's stupid and cocky with a superiority complex. I wanted to throw my book at her so bad.

---

I've decided that Tally is incurable. I hate her so much right now. I don't know why I keep reading.

I haven't hated the protagonist this much since I watched School Days.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Terezi Pyrope on February 12, 2013, 03:32:24 AM
Everyone hates Tally, I'm pretty sure.  Isn't it amazing how we can all hate a protagonist yet love a book so much?
Because of Shay, and the amazing writing!!!
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: TractionEra on February 12, 2013, 04:14:09 AM
Shay I like. I think she would have been a better protagonist with Tally being the antagonist that she is.

A little off topic, but does anyone else think the weird men in Extras look like Nosferatu?

Didn't see that, but now that you mention it.

In this series I got mad at alot of poeople Tally is not the expection yet I believe she has done good things and bad things. So overall she's okay.

I really like Tally.

I guess, she's very real and yes, sometimes that may come off as annoying or whiny. But she's human and a teenager. She's allowed to have emotions.

I don't quite get why everyone hates her so much. I just like her and I can definitely relate with her.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Panzercrappitastica on October 10, 2013, 07:28:53 AM
I agree with you, but I think people hate her because the heroine of a book usually is, y'know, all kick-butt and brave and determined, but she's... not. She's normal.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: carmensakura-la on October 10, 2013, 06:19:45 PM
well, yea, she's normal.

But I think she do kick ass in her own ways. (especially when she is cornered and had enough of the shit that world is giving or forcing her to take)

Like, she cured herself from the lesions. See, that isn't something everyone can do. And just for that, I think she kick ass.

But I guess, it's a matter of perspective and preference.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Panzercrappitastica on October 11, 2013, 12:18:48 AM
Yeah, she's definitly kick-ass in gopher own way, just not as much so as some other book heroines.
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: carmensakura-la on October 11, 2013, 10:07:24 PM
True. There are other female heroines that are more kick ass. And I guess, it do suck that Scott-la did not write her in that way but that's life. sighs.

But I guess, I still like her. So yea. lol.  ;D
Title: Re: You....yes you!
Post by: Straif on October 12, 2013, 12:24:52 PM
More kickass heroines you say? Hmm...
Cathrine-B320 from Halo Reach
Hester Shaw from Mortal Engines
Fever Crumb from the series of the same name (and, in addition her girlfreind Cluny Morvich)
Briar Wilkes from Boneshaker

Deryn, Dess, Mrs. Weasly...

To a lesser extend. None of them ever crushed a guys head with a typewriter though.

But Dess kills monsters with math and thirteen letter words.

I'm gonna stick with typewriters.
Additionally; I dont think Dess has a scar.

Scars are badass. And kick ass.
No matter. They're both awesome...(she's from Midnighters right?)

Heh pfft... What no Tally is more deserving of it because she would sit there wondering what do with it and we would laugh!
