Title: are there older users?
Post by: Julia The Bookworm on November 11, 2013, 09:31:12 AM
hey, I'm 17 & I was just curious are there any other users ages 17 or older?

I can personally attest that there are users 17 and older. I'm 17 myself!  8)

There are a few of us. I'm 19, and there are a few over twenty (like Kristina-la and PrincessofUganda, though she usually just hangs out in the roleplaying section :p)

it's nice to know that I'm not the only older one out there. I all thought the users on here were mostly preteens or in their early teens.now I don't feel like an old geezer
Thank you.

Actually, it seems like most users here are 17 & up. I feel so young now :c

Yeah, I always knew I was immature  for my age but the site is making me realize how much so. oh, well.   :P :D
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Ceres on December 23, 2013, 01:21:52 PM
You can be maturely immature, as in, still have kid-ish fun, but act responsible and intelligent. Adults lose much of their innocence and ability to have fun as they get older, and people commonly mistake that state of mind as "mature". To me, mature means acting responsible and wise, treating people fairly, doing the right thing, all of that stuff. But of being mature means you can't be silly sometimes, who cares about maturity? :P
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Panzercrappitastica on December 23, 2013, 02:18:04 PM
True, true. For example, in second grade, I was a complete spazz like I am today. There were these girls who were all dignified and "proper" who bullied me and called me immature. And one day I jut told them that I was way more mature than they were because I was able to be myself and feel secure without bullying. Two of those girls have now convinced me of their maturity, two have not.
Well, that was longer than I meant for it to be...

Title: Re: are there older users?

I think there was a middle aged guy on here long ago.
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Julia The Bookworm on February 13, 2014, 01:06:25 AM
Yeah I read about him in some older posts, darling-wa right? He sounded kind of creepy.
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: monkeys_r_us on February 13, 2014, 01:30:08 PM
I don't remember him very well since it was so long ago, but I think he got banned or something.
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Ceres on February 17, 2014, 11:32:16 AM
I never found out exactly what happened with him, but he's the infamous stalker dude from years past on here...most forums have one ;D
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Luna Lovegood on February 18, 2014, 12:56:06 AM
I can see why, that's beyond creepy and I can't even understand why someone who is middle aged would want to be on a teen forum. I plan on leaving before that. Actually, I plan on leaving in the next 2-3 years.
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Julia The Bookworm on February 18, 2014, 02:39:45 AM
I'll probably leave in a few years too it gets to the point where all the users seem really young.
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Luna Lovegood on February 18, 2014, 02:59:19 AM
And it gets to a point where you're just situation in your life and don't have the time or a reason to be here because you're now facing grownup responsibilities.

Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: MacK on March 16, 2014, 03:56:23 AM
I'll be 18 in July, It'll be so hard to leave here!! But after a certian age it would be creepy, like if im 27 and still getting on here someone just block me.
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Panzercrappitastica on March 16, 2014, 11:32:14 AM
I suspect that by the time you're old enough for it to be creepy, you won't have interest in talking to a bunch of teenagers/young adults anymore.
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Nina-Chan on June 17, 2014, 05:53:09 AM
i'll be 18 in august and I don't come on a lot because i this place suited me more when i was 14 or 15 :) to each their own

and the middle aged man was creepy he flirted with me as well as several other girls and would post  a bunch of weird stuff. I feel like the average age is mid teens to early twenties but it all depends how you act
Title: Re: are there older users?

I may only hang out on two or three boards, but let me tell you, I have Afterworlds pre-ordered and I'm a mod, so...I must make some kind of dent around here!
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Reenie-La on July 20, 2014, 12:35:36 AM
I'm 19 now... o-o

I still sound like an angsty 15 year old...at least then I talked about things that mattered.
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Julia The Bookworm on July 20, 2014, 12:38:31 AM
Oh, Reenie!:(
If it makes you feel better people always get really shocked when I say I'm 18, they always think I'm 12.
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Reenie-La on July 20, 2014, 04:20:17 AM
It does somehow, heh...I didn't think you were 12 -- but I didn't know you were 18 >w<
Title: Re: are there older users?

I'm almost 14, and everyone tells me I look like I'm 12. Heck, I still feel 12 - I still write /13 or /12 on my papers sometimes D:

Reenie, you do talk about things that matter! You've said some very poignant things, and I love your essays.

Gah! Was browsing through Meet ups out of boredom, found this. EXISTENTIAL CRISIS. I cannot imagine leaving! Like I know I will, eventually. Unless I become a moderator or something, then I'd stay on to do my part. But someone should make a new forum for Westerforum retirees.

Like a Westerforum retirement home  ;D

Same thing here. I really can't imagine leaving, but I know I will eventually.
Although it could realistically be four or five or six or more years from now :)
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Ceres on November 28, 2014, 09:35:25 AM
I, honestly, don't think I will leave.

It's more likely that the forum will die in a couple of years or so, and I don't plan on leaving before then. I plan to see it through to the end, if I can.

holy shizzle that sounds morbid

Title: Re: are there older users?

Not my place to legislate morality. If people want to give their kids alcohol the that's their choice.
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Gentlebiscuit on March 27, 2015, 03:16:19 PM
It's an illegal choice. It's not about morality. It's about brain chemistry.
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: The Primal Song Continues on March 27, 2015, 03:24:50 PM
And people who start out drinking small amounts when young don't always become alcoholics. history bears witness.
BTW, the first American coffey shop was established to provide an alternative to drunkenness. And now we're addicted to caffeine.
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Ceres on March 27, 2015, 03:29:12 PM
It isn't about the addiction, it's about how alcohol impedes brain development.

But they still wont let you drink for another 2 years.

Technically, I can as long as the permission of your parents / legal guardian and  on their property you can still drink if you're under 21 in America. You just can't if you're out in a public place like a bar or club.

I've had sips of my parents and old siblings' drinks and I don't think I like alcohol that much even in small amounts so that doesn't really matter to me.

Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: Ghost44 on March 31, 2015, 05:46:53 PM
I'd like to point out that underage consumption of alcohol in limited amounts isn't bad for brain development, only excessive amounts. So long as you aren't getting drunk, it is fine. A glass of wine as a 14 year old or whatever won't make a difference.

A number of countries have the legal age at 16 for beer and wine and then 18 for hard alcohol, and these places allow younger people to drink in the presence of adults. Similarly to how some states allow kids to drink under the supervision of their parents, even out at restaurants (Wisconsin).
Title: Re: are there older users?
Post by: The Primal Song Continues on April 01, 2015, 01:05:51 AM
Right. Excessive drinking can be damaging at any age. However, limited amounts can be beneficial.

Aw man, I missed the alcohol chat :'(

In 10 months I can legally drink in NY, which I am psyched for :P I've tried sips of beer (nasty) and wine (okay). At a
wedding in November I had six glasses of champagne (loved). When I turn, there is a drink called Viniq I wanna try.
It's a liqueur/vodka that sparkles and glimmers like the galaxy!

I don't know if I'd like champagne, I don't really like wine that much I'm not sure adding carbonation would make it that much better.

CHAMPAGNE IS AMAZING. It is VERY different from wine.

Anything in excessive amounts, even water, is bad for you. Moderation is the key.

And as for drinking age, I'm more concerned about mental maturity. You can have a super responsible 17 year old and an immature 21 year old. Who would you trust with the alcohol?

Agree 100%.

Champagne gives you bubbles up your nose, which tickles, but its a "dry" tasting alcohol.

Vodka and strawberry daiquiris are they way to go.

After looking back at this thread I kinda want to rename it the booze thread.

I still can't get over the fact that I'm legally considered an adult now. XD I'm nineteen so I've had plenty of time to get used to it XD

It's almost been a year since I posted this comment and I still feel this way.
I think I always will feel this way.

I was looking at forum RPs where you have to be 18+ to join and got a bit concerned before realizing I could join.  :P
