Title: Rise for the End of the World
Post by: Mara-la on March 21, 2019, 03:45:15 PM
Some people thought the world was going to end in 2000, that the computers wouldn't switch over properly, and that there would be catastrophic failures worldwide that would slowly bring the world to a grinding halt. This didn't happen though. The New Year came in with rings of joy, proper New Years kisses, and resolutions abound.

But not for Dr. Avery Barlow.

Dr. Avery Barlow had spent a great deal of time perfecting her research on mutating the human genome in order to make it impervious to debilitating diseases, such as cancer or ALS, and collecting test subjects in secret. She had amassed a group of children, volunteered by their parents, for experiments. The parents did not know the extent of the experiments, but it seemed to matter not, seeing as they received a hefty sum of cash in exchange. The children were treated well when they were brought in for experiment days, but the procedures were long and gruelling, and some of the children did not make it.

Barlow was about to shut the experiment down when that New Years Eve, she had her first success: Lonny Cartwright, a young boy, aged 7, test subject #021. He survived the serum transfusion and awoke from the medically induced sleep with white glowing eyes and veins that looked as if they would shock you if you touched them, and delivered a prophecy: the world was going to end in 19 years. Before he could give any more information, he began to seize, and passed away shortly thereafter.

Disturbed by the sudden turn of events, Dr. Barlow officially shut down the lab at the behest of her lab assistants, and from that point on, the laboratory became officially defunct. The key word was officially. The children, much to the bewilderment of their parents, had developed powers of sorts, much like Lonny had. Some of the parents no longer wanted to deal with their freak children and left them in the care of Dr. Barlow. Others decided to keep their children, but bring them to the doctor for regular appointments.

The children grew up in and out of Barlow's care, but were kept separate. They were aware of one another, but they never really had the chance to know one another. On June 3 2004, the lab was hit by lightning, killing Dr. Barlow, and subsequently opening an investigation on the lab. Once it was realized what this place was, the children and their families were taken into protective custody, and then relocated throughout the country so that they could start their lives over and live "normally".

This, of course, did not work out in all cases. Some of the children did keep their powers secret, while others went out and used them, going on to become "superheroes". A few of them decided to go the other route, and be seen as villains, ultimately leading to their defeat and lockup in a specialized facility for supers.

But it's 2019 now, the first day of spring to be exact. The government, who had seized Dr. Barlow's data, have come to realize that the end of the world is near, coming in a matter of weeks, and they have no idea how to stop it. They only have the vaguest idea of what causes it, and that idea could be completely wrong. They've realized that they only have one option: assign a handler to group together the children from the Barlow Experiments and have them rise together in time for the end of the world.

-------------

RIGHT SO. LONG INTRO. But, hopefully it's interesting??

Inspirations: Umbrella Academy, Marvel, Suicide Squad.... yeah. You get the picture. This is comic book goodness style storylines.

As I mentioned, the kids (well, adults now) will know of each other, but won't necessarily know each other. This gives way for them to get to know each other (and for you guys to get to know your characters better!) but also kinda bypass the awkward introductions because they know each other exist, and that they had similar upbringings because of the lab.

Now, I'm thinking that these kids will be 90's kids. So like, born between 1990-2000. That way, none of them would have been older than 10 at the time of the experiments.

NOTE: In the charrie card there's a thing called "Hero/Hidden/Villain" and that refers to what they did re their powers after relocation. Did they pretend like they didn't have them (hidden), try to save people (hero), or use their powers for illegal activities and got caught (villain). Those who are villains are going to start out in a special holding facility, but don't worry, they'll be out soon!

Second note because apparently I got too excited and posted this before I finished including all the f*cking details:

THE HANDLER. I will be playing the Handler alongside my character, however, the Handler is not a person. The Handler is an AI that can take over any device being used (so, phones, tvs, anything at all) but can also neurohack people's brains to deliver short messages to the team (hello Travelers... also if you haven't seen this show it's well worth a watch). The Handler is, as a result, neither male nor female, but is referred to as "they" and the variants of that.

omf also, one more note, if your charrie was a hero/villain, they can have a hero/villain name :P you know, the way that Tony Stark is Iron Man, for example.

I'm actually thinking of playing a girl this time, since I've a character that I've been sitting on for literal years, but before I opt to play her I'll ask: would energy manipulation be too op for this?

I'm thinking of just using a character generator XD I'm so unsure what to use.

Charrie Card~
Name: Haruka "Mukei" Saito
Birthdate (and subsequent age): May 9, 1996 (22)
Appearance: Tall and very thin, an androgynous woman, Haruka wears her naturally black straight hair in asymmetrical from short in the back to long in the front with the left side shaved off. She has thin deep brown eyes and scars on her neck and down her lip.
Personality: "Quiet" is an understatement since Haruka can no longer speak. She is very thoughtful, very smart, always trying to stay five steps ahead. She comes off as meek because of her disability, but is surprisingly nimble and while she's not strong, her ability to absorb energy and redirect it makes her a dangerous foe.
Power(s): Phasing through surfaces and energy redirection (think Black Panther's suit, absorbing energy and then pushing it back out in a more direct form)
Hero/Hidden/Villain: Villain, by the name of Mukei (Japanese for "Intangible")
Other: Haruka usually carries a phone on her to text people for communication purposes. She also knows sign language, as well as English and Japanese fluently. Raised in a dense Japanese populated area of LA, Haruka became the villain Mukei when she was upset by her parents rejecting her because of her newfound powers. She ran away and became an excellent thief until she was caught by a gang for being in their turf and they tried to strangle her to death and damaged her vocal chords, the reason she can't speak. They then turned her into authorities for the reward. She's now housed in the facility, biding her time.

Considering I was toying with this myself, no it’s not, you can totally do energy manipulation! I’ll just make mine different from yours :P

Name: Ryliegh Adour
Birthdate (and subsequent age): July 9th, 1995 (23 years)
Appearance: Surprisingly small, considering her power and personality. She is fairly short and thin, though decently toned from a life of fighting crime. She has pale blonde hair that cascades down her back in messy waves, which she usually keeps wrangled in a loose side braid, brown eyes, and can oft be found sporting a manic, gleeful, grin.
Personality: The absolute pinnacle of "chaotic good": as a hero she is known to be brave, stoic, and noble; as a civilian she can often be found getting into bar fights and drinking grown men under the table. She has a heart of gold and clear sense of justice and wants to do what's right wherever she can, she just has a habit of blowing things up in order to do so.
Power(s): Energy manipulation: she can enhance the engery of her own body to give herself super strength, speed, fairly rapid healing, and the power of flight. As well, she can fire explosive energy blasts and shields from her hands (although be warned- she has terrible aim). However, she struggles with focusing her power on more than two things at once.
Hero/Hidden/Villain: Hero by the name of The Seraphim
Other: Up until she moved out of her parent's place at the age of 19 she was one of the hidden, keeping her powers a secret. However, once on her own and after a bit of soul-searching, she came to realize that she had been gifted her abilities for a reason: to help people. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Name: Inge Nilsen, however they go by Randy Nelson to hide their identity.
Birthdate (and subsequent age): October 25, 1995 (23)
Appearance: Inge, or 'Randy' as they're more likely going to be referred to as, is a petite person with a generally androgynous demeanor. They have sandy blonde hair cut in a modern undercut, leaving the shaggy top long enough to get into their eyes. They have a button nose, bags under their eyes, and a variety of piercings, including a nose piercing, an eyebrow piercing, and two lip piercings. Randy is a visibly skinny individual.
Personality: Randy is a prankster at heart - Always seen with a tired grin on their face. They have a twisted sense of justice, believing that in order to truly save the world, all those with 'inferior' traits or criminal records must be 'purged', aka killed. Randy has a taste for uncommon foods, like cat food, human flesh, and seeds. Randy enjoys making others uncomfortable, and has trouble understanding how anyone could see things differently than they do.
Power(s): Animalistic traits - Enhanced sense of smell, keen vision, heat detection, retractable claws, webbed hands and feet, and sharp teeth. Randy has enhanced stamina and agility, and can climb on walls and mimic noises they've heard before.
Hero/Hidden/Villain: Villain/Antihero known as 'Jotun'
Other: Has been under a fake identity for 11 years, wanting to abandon their old life to embrace a life they deem as 'heroic' (which really isn't heroic at all, its them killing whoever they decide deserves it).

Name: Samuel (Sam) Bridger
Birthdate (and subsequent age): April 15, 1996 (22 years)
Appearance: messy brown, curly hair and tanned skin. His eyes are a striking blue. He's on the taller side and well built from playing sports all through high school. He's got a lopsided grin that often makes him look like he's up to no good  and one dimple. Not that he smiles enough for anyone to see. He also has pale scars running up his arm reminiscent of lightning, but he keeps them covered by long sleeves and arm wraps.
Personality: He's pretty fiery. He has a big temper and a sharp tongue, so he has a hard time getting along with anyone. He is also very afraid of his powers, which is part of why he refuses to use them.
Power(s): He can produce lightning and also control it, and his eyes glow almost white when he uses his power. However, each time he does it causes more scarring on his arms.
Hero/Hidden/Villain: Hidden
Other: He and his parents decided it'd be best if he didn't use his powers at all because of the effect it had on his physical body, and how dangerous they were to learn to control. He still slips up from time to time, and the only time he can practice is during a storm.

Grand charrie card sheet thus far

Name: Lana Vandeaux
Birthdate (and subsequent age): March 20 1996 (23)
Appearance: Lana has thick sandy brown hair that’s reasonably straight. As a result of the experiments, her once brown eyes have turned a shade of dark violet, and so she often wears round glasses to try and draw attention away from them. At least, that was what she did as a Hidden. Lana also tends to wear dark lipstick and dark coloured clothing, which contrast with her light hair and pale skin.
Personality: As a girl, Lana was quite shy, but as she grew into her powers, she became more manipulative. At first, it was to survive, but then, it just became self-serving. She is a cautious person who knows better than to lose control, and she struggles a lot with the idea of whether or not she’s a bad person. That internal struggle is something that leads her to appear of two personalities: some days she feels like she’s a good person who was in a bad situation, other times she feels that she’s a bad person because she doesn’t feel remorse for the level of invasion her powers cause.
Power(s): earned her villainous name of “Chaos” by the fact that her power seems to only birth chaos. Her primary power is incredibly invasive and that is being able to influence a person’s will, thoughts, emotions, and actions by implanting her desires into their thoughts. She can also cause spontaneous combustion, even at great distance, but she has to be able to see what she’s causing to combust. She’s got fantastic control over these abilities, but they come at a price: when she uses the powers for an extended period of time or at any great capacity (so taking over many minds at once, or blowing up a lot of things) they corrupt her and take over her body; all of what makes Lana, Lana is gone, and is replaced solely by an embodiment of uncontrollable Chaos. In this state, her body goes into a protective mode and she can levitate, and her skin hardens; the only way to get her back to Lana is by stopping her heart for a moment, effectively “rebooting” her. This, obviously, is very risky. Lana knows better than to push her powers too far. Lana knows of her full Chaos form, but does not remember her actions as Chaos.
Hero/Hidden/Villain: Villain, by the name of Chaos
Other: Lana was born to teen parents who didn’t have the support of their families, and thought that they could take care of her on their own. Over time, their relationship degraded, and Lana suffered for it. In a feeble attempt to earn enough income to support themselves and Lana, they enrolled her in Dr. Barlow’s program (that looked completely legitimate). Eventually, when it became clear that Lana had developed some abilities, they wanted nothing more to do with her, and turned her over fully to Dr. Barlow, who kept her in the defunct lab until it was destroyed in 2004. Lana was reunited with her parents by authorities and they were relocated. Lana spent the rest of her childhood and her teen years developing her powers further but never daring to push the threshold. Still, she had enough power to get her parents to do her bidding, and do other things to benefit her. One day though, she pushed too far, and it brought out Chaos. Chaos destroyed a great deal of the town before she was finally shut down, and from that point she was locked away in the security facility.

Name: Bennett (Ben) Waters
Birthdate (and subsequent age): June 6, 1995 - 23
Appearance: tall and slender with short black hair, blue eyes, pale complexion.
Personality: he's generally very quiet and socially awkward, especially in large groups. Ben firmly believes in following rules and doing what's right, but sometimes he comes across as being too submissive and cowardly.
Power(s): Duplication. He can create clones of himself, which he should be able to control but they often have  minds of their own - especially when he's in a heightened emotional state.
Hero/Hidden/Villain: Villain (but he's a hero at heart. He just can't control his ability)
Other: Youngest of three boys; his elder brothers always tormented him as a child, physically and emotionally. Bennett snapped one day when his eldest brother was being particularly cruel. A dozen duplicates clobbered Ben's brother to death. His parents, terrified of Ben's unstable ability turned their son in and he's been locked away in the holding facility ever since.

Let’s 👏🏻 go 👏🏻

I’m off work!
Title: Re: Rise for the End of the World
Post by: Mara-la on March 23, 2019, 06:05:34 AM
(I’ll kick it off but I’ll be occupied for the next few hours so it’ll be a touch slow)

Lana was being led to... somewhere. She didn’t know. Her hands were shackled together, we were her feet, and the shackles were made out of some sort of material that blocked the use of powers in any enhanced human. And, it made sense why. She was a prisoner. One of the Barlow experiments gone wrong. Rumour had it, there were others here like her, but she’d never seen them.

“Walk faster,” the guard urged her, nudging her with a rod.

She grit her teeth and wished she could influence him to just be nicer. But she couldn’t. So, she continued walking, walking towards a door. An exit? No. The door opened into a larger room, a room that had no windows, but a round table with chairs around it.

“Sit.”

Lana did as she was told, sitting, waiting for something to happen.

“The others will be here soon.”

I have to go too so this'll be quick)

Bennett was led into the windowless room, his eyes immediately drawn to the girl already sitting around the round table, also in shackles as he was. He took a seat without question, as ordered by the guard, and stared at the girl - wondering what she had done to get herself locked up like him

In the same shackles, Haruka was brought to the room and sat down at the head table. She was already thinking of a way to get the shackles off and was sure if she tripped a guard, she could swipe the keys and unlock her hands in enough time to get the ankles off before the guard got up off the ground, but everything in her plans was changed as they entered a room with the others with two more guards. She scrunched her nose and tried to come up with a new plan. She looked at the two others in the room and raised an eyebrow. They were the same age roughly. Other experiments.

(Okay im like uhhh sleep hungover or smthn so my brain isn't working. Is this where everyone is bringing brought together or only the villains? Cuz I think only me and rai aren't villains lmao)
Title: Re: Rise for the End of the World
Post by: Mara-la on March 23, 2019, 07:27:49 AM
(It's gonna be everyone. I should have clarified. The facility is a government facility, so it's not a typical prison, and only the powered villains are kept there usually, but now they're bringing all the Barlow experiments (all the surviving ones) back together to really meet for the first time officially and get their mission)

Lana looked around at the two newcomers. They had to be other Barlow experiments; there was no other reason they would be in the same shackles. So, these were the other dangerous ones then. "How many of us are there?"

"Enough of you," the guard replied gruffly.

(Okay haha just making sure.)

"Hands off," Sam growled as one of the people leading him in tried to grab his arm to guide him. Apparently they didn't care and grabbed him anyway, pulling him toward whatever room he was being taken to. He wasn't in shackles because he wasn't a prisoner, but they sure weren't trying to be gentle. Did they not know what he could do? The door was opened and he was lead in, seated at the table with the other three. He immediately was on edge when he saw that they were in shackles.
"Hey, I didn't do anything," he said, turning in his seat to look at the guards.

Ryleigh had, as usual, made a rather spectacular entrance when she landed outside of the facility she had been summoned to. The people who greeted her didn't seem very impressed (probably because she had scorched a circle several feet in diameter in their grass). She was led inside, guided by rough hands and steely glares. Any attempts at asking her guides questions on why she'd been summoned were ignored.

She was brought into the room with the others, all of them around her age, most of them in shackles. "You know, if I'd known we were having a party I would have dressed for the occasion."

Haruka stared, no, glared at the newcomers with their lack of shackles. She looked at the guard near her and raised an eyebrow, but he just chuckled, “They never stole a Jackson Pollock or killed one of our guards for bringing them dinner.” Haruka rolled her eyes and huffed out air loudly before turning away and looking at the new girl especially. She was not as amusing as she thought.

Sam tensed when he overheard what the guard was telling the girl that had been glaring at him and the other...loud chick. He slumped into his seat, glaring at the tabletop now.

Inge, known now as Randy, was shoved into the room, shackled as well. A low growl coming from their throat, they surveyed the room and took note of what looked like...familiar faces. Wonderful.
"Good day." They muttered, keeping their voice low. "Is this where the execution will occur? I knew the good old government wouldn't want me around for long." They chuckled to themself before sitting down in a chair at the table.
Title: Re: Rise for the End of the World

Ben's eyes darted around at the others sitting at the table, fear quickly building in his chest with every new person that entered the room. He shut his eyes tight, breathing harder as the new addition to the table mentioned an 'execution'; surely that was not the reason to gather them all together? Right? He hadn't meant to kill his brother, it had been an accident! They couldn't execute him for losing control. "It was an accident," he muttered

“Now that you’re all here,” a pleasant female but also robotic sounding voice echoed, “I want to wish you welcome. You may recognize one another, or perhaps, you may not. You do all have one very important thing in common: you are the remaining children from Dr. Barlow’s experiments.” The voice paused, calibrating. “You have been brought together because the world needs your help. The help only you, with your abilities, can provide. We have confirmed the end of the world as imminent. We would like you to help stop it. If you accept this task, you will receive a large payment in the end. If you decline, you may return to your lives as they were before you entered this room.” The voice fell silent after this.

Haruka just stared at place where the voice seemed to be coming from and cracked her neck, breathing out discontently. These were her fellow experiments? Did the ones without shackles not have abilities? When would her shackles come off?
Title: Re: Rise for the End of the World

As the robotic voice spoke Ben opened his eyes, looking alarmed as he processed that bit of information; the apocalypse. He did not see how they could prevent it and part of him cared very little if the world fell...but the thought of returning to his cell was very unappealing. If the world was going to end, he'd prefer not spending it locked away like a criminal; perhaps they would even see that he was not a bad person and let him go free?
"If...if we accept and stop the world from ending, will we be released?" Ben spoke up, looking at his shackled hands with distaste.
Title: Re: Rise for the End of the World

Sam nervously fidgeted with the gloves on his hands, concealing the scars. How the hell was he supposed to help stop the end of the world? Especially with a bunch of what he could only assume were criminals, what with the shackles and all. And that was not him. But still...
"How much money? I'm gonna need like, exact numbers. Large payment seems sort of ambiguous," he said, leaning his chair back with his foot propped against the table.

“The payment will be a home to live in, and an additional half million in cash for each of you individually. For those criminally inclined, there is also be the removal of all current ability related charges,” the voice echoed.

Lana looked around. It sounded like a good deal. “And the cause of the apocalypse?” She asked, reiterating Ryleigh’s question.

There was a silence from the voice. Finally, when it came back, it spoke in a more robotic voice than it has previously:  “circumstance currently unknown.”

(Good thing they’re also offering a house cause half a million won’t even buy you a townhouse in Vancouver 😂)

The money and the house were obviously enticing but it was the freedom Ben really longed for. He stared around the table at the others like him, wondering how they could possibly stop the world from ending; it seemed like an impossible task, but what did he really have to lose? “I accept” he said

Haruka looked around the room. It seemed too easy. Like it was a trap. Like there was no way they would be finishing this job, so they were being put up as the scapegoats, like if this group couldn’t handle the world ending doom, then there was no way it could be stopped. She looked at the guard and just shook her head slowly. She wanted no part of this. She wasn’t going to be sent to slaughter.

“Scientists,” The Handler replied. “Scientists and programmers created me to help save humanity and the world from impending destruction.”

Lana felt her powers stir in her as the cuffs fell off, but she also felt an anxiety creep in. Now, there was nothing outside of her own self control that was stopping her from becoming Chaos again. Still, having been suppressed for so long, she felt she needed to stretch her powers a little. Her violet eyes brightened just slightly as she focused in on Sam: you have powers, and so you'll stay.
Title: Re: Rise for the End of the World

The low growl in Randy's throat rose to a satisfied purr when the cuffs clicked off. "A house, money, pardoning...Whoever wants this is truly desperate for help." They looked at Sam. "Trying to stay neutral in a world where you are ostracized yet superior is going to bite." And then they turned their attention to Ben. "Not a criminal, yet you entered cuffed. I don't understand the logic of you or anyone else here. And..." They looked up at the guards. "How are we supposed to save the world if we do not know what is ending it?"

“You will receive instructions in due time,” the Handler said. “For now, it is best that you get familiar with one another as well as with one another’s abilities.” At that, a door - one that had previously looked like a wall and it a door - slid upwards, revealing a large room behind it. A training room.

Post by: |ĸιrα| on March 24, 2019, 04:45:11 PM
"Or...I guess I could stay..." Sam looked at the door, his eyes wide. Maybe he could get a handle on his powers here. After all, if he has them he should try to use them, right? He flexed his fingers, but the sleeve of his shirt rode up a bit to expose some of his scarring. He quickly pulled it back down and felt his stomach sink.

Lana’s lip curled into a small smile. It seemed that she hasn’t lost her touch. But there it was once more, the addiction to her power welling up, where she wanted to use it more and more. But she knew better. “Training? Really?”

Hakura slipped out of her seat and walked over to the training room, looking around it and tapping her foot on the ground to test the density and then did the same to the walls. She was testing to see if there was a way to slide through and get into a different room. She looked around at each of the others and tilted her head at the boy who seemed to change his mind in an instant.

Randy smirked and hopped onto the table before hopping down onto the other side and stalking into the training facility. Sniffing the air for a moment, they shrugged and removed their shoes, allowing clawed feet to get a better grip on the floor. Glancing at the nearest wall of the room, they quickly hopped up and dug their nails into the wall, finding themself pleasantly surprised when they could cling to it and climb. Letting go of the wall and hopping back down with a satisfied purr, they looked at the others.
"...So, what is this training supposed to be? They are testing our superiority against eachother?" They asked, to anyone who would hear. "Are they hoping for us to all introduce ourselves, play nice? I despise this lack of direction given. It just goes to show how little the inferior people know."

Sam felt pretty weird about the whole thing, and the feeling only grew as the talkative one crawled around and did...whatever it was they were doing. He shifted uneasily his seat, not willing to get up and go check the room out. What had he been thinking, saying he could do this?

"You know, talking as tough as you are makes you sound like the inferior one," Ryleigh pointed out. She slammed her fists together and her hands lit up with glowing energy. "Anyway, I'm up for a scrap. Been a while since I was in a decent fight. Or a decent fair fight, I should say," she added, recalling the bar brawl she may or may not have started the week before.

"Me? The inferior?" Randy gave a lound, hyenalike laugh. "Tell me, American, could any of the normal populace survive an assault from one of us? If we are not the superior population, girl, then why are we the ones that the world has tasked to save it?"
They smirked when Ryleigh slammed her fists into eachother and they raised a clawed hand to dig it into the wall and leave a deep claw mark as they drug their claws down, and they resisted another laugh when the man next to the woman sprouted more duplicates. "I assure you, woman, a fight with me is anything but fair."

Ben's cheeks were bright red, embarrassed by his lack of control. They all seemed to have somewhat of a handle on their abilities. "Sometimes," he muttered, "usually not, especially when I'm upset or angry or scared..." he rambled.

"Hey, don't beat yourself up," Ryleigh told him. "Learning to control it is why they're having us train in the first place." She turned to the quiet girl and smirked. "I suppose you won't be telling me your name before we fight? Alright then...." She lunged forward with super-charged speed, fist raised to land a good old-fashioned punch into her opponent's gut.

Sam finally stood and wandered into the room. He overheard the guy with the creepy double. "How'd you wind up in cuffs? You don't sound like someone that commits crimes," he commented. Lana hung back a little. The guards had left them, and though they were still in a prison of sorts (this training facility had no visible doors, though she presumed they were probably hidden like the one that had opened to get them in here) but it didn't feel like a prison. Maybe that was just because she was out of cuffs for the first time in a long time. Regardless, she didn't want to push herself too much on the first go; she didn't know how quickly Chaos would take over after being inactive for so long. She turned her attention to the timid boy, the one with little control. She vaguely remembered him from their time in the lab, where they had been aware of one another's existence, but had never come to know each other. "Well, that's f*cked up," she said in response. "But how does that make you the criminal here?"

Concentrating, Hakura caught Ryleigh’s fist in one hand and closed her eyes, the force of the punch being absorbed before pushing her hand against the other woman’s center of her chest, completely redirecting the force against her.

Sam hummed in acknowledgement. "Yeah, that's why my parents and I decided my powers were better left unused. Too unpredictable." He looked toward the girl that had spoken and narrowed his eyes. She really unsettled him. "What'd you do that's criminal material, then?"

Lana sucked on her cheek. She knew what she had done - well, what Chaos had done - but she couldn't actually remember it. She had been told. She had seen the footage. The footage that the government had then suppressed to cover their own asses. Still, she didn't like to talk about it. Her eyes flitted to an empty wooden crate on the floor, the single one straying from the pile of them in the corner. Her violet eyes brightened ever so slightly once more (as they did when she used her powers) and as she tilted her head down only a degree or two, the box combusted, erupting into flames. "Oops," she said. She hadn't meant for it to be that big of an explosion. Guess she was a little rusty after all.

Ben's eyes shifted from the two girls to his duplicates, who had gone off on their own; some aimlessly wandering around and others sparring against each other. He glanced at the girl and sighed, "Because they didn't believe that it was an accident," Ben explained. Ben knew it was an accident, in part; he had not meant to kill his brother but there had been a moment, as his duplicates clobbered his defenceless brother, that Ben had enjoyed. To have power over the person who'd caused him so much pain and distress throughout Ben's childhood. He jumped in surprise as the box suddenly burst into flames, fixing his eyes on the girl with a bit of fear.

Lana glanced at Ben. She hated when people looked at her like that. It was how her parents had looked at her when she first got her powers, before they shipped her away back to the facility until she was brought back to them by the government after the lab was permanently shut down. Maybe she should use her power on him to make him not afraid. No, that was wrong, that was invasive, and that would just further the fear against her. She had to do this the normal way. "I remember something from when we were all kids... and maybe I'm remembering this wrong, but I seem to recall hearing about one of the experiments - one of us - losing control and turning into 100 people? Was that you?"

Sam's eyes widened when the box exploded. "How do you even remember stuff from then?" He muttered, running his fingers back through his hair. Everything from back then was a blur of pain and flashes of lightning. He instinctively rubbed his arms at the memory, his gaze dropping to the ground.

Ryliegh was thrown back several feet by the force of her own punch, hitting the wall with a harsh crack. She fell to the ground, still for a moment before stumbling to her feet. "Okay... yeah, that was totally fair," she grumbled. It felt like she'd broken something.

"I remember it because I just about pissed my pants laughing at the lab assistants freaking out over the intercom and radios," Lana replied. "But, back then we were all just experiments. No names. No faces, I mean, we didn't know each other's, and I'm sure the lab didn't care. We're people now. What are your names? I'm Lana."

Ben's face was bright red at that point, memories of that day resurfacing. "Something spooked me, I honestly don't remember what, but I completely lost it. There were so many duplicates running around and I was having a melt down so I was in no state to control them," he said, clearly embarrassed  by it all. He sighed and smiled at Lana, "Bennett, but I usually just go by Ben,"

"We are sharing names?" Randy asked. "I am Randy Nelson. You don't know me." They stepped over to Ben and patted a clawed hand on his shoulder in a misconstrued attempt to show support for their fellow 'superior'.

"I don't know you but I know you're annoying," Lana muttered. She wasn't afraid of him. She wasn't afraid of any of them. No, she felt weirdly comfortable with this group; they were the only ones on the planet who would understand what it was like to be the subjects in a freak experiment. "It's good to know a name though."

"And you are uneducated and misguided, as all of the others here are." Randy muttered in response to Lana.

Ben subtly stepped away from Randy and his creepy clawed hand. Ben really did not like being touched, even under normal circumstances.

Ryleigh took a deep breath, willing her broken ribs to heal themselves. She still felt sore, though; training would have to wait for a little while. "I'm Ryleigh, if any of you care," she said with a wave of her hand, the other hand rubbing her shoulder. "Though I'm better off known as The Seraphim."

(Ryleigh reminds me of Carol Danvers)

Randy was crossing a line, but Lana held back. She'd used her powers twice so far. They were so easy to use. She could probably get away with a third time. But then again, maybe not. She turned her attention to Ryleigh. "Yeah, you strike me as a hero sort. How'd you get that name though?"

<**omg. Although having just seen Captain Marvel I can definitely see it -_-**>

Ryleigh nodded. "Yeah, I'm super heroic," she boasted, resting her hands on her hips again. "And I dunno. I fly around and blow stuff up? Sounds kinda warrior angel to me. Or, at least, that's what the general population think."

"Ah. You are one of those who cares more about the wellbeing of the lesser populace than about your own kind, hm?" Randy raised a brow. "...If we are using heroic titles, I am Jotun. But I do not associate myself with 'heroes' like this Seraphim."

Ryleigh rolled her eyes and let her mouth fall open in an exaggerated fashion, moving her hand like a puppet, mocking Randy's speech. God, these people were something else.

(She's giving me Brianna/the Breeze (Gone) vibes :P)

Ben eyed Randy warily, backing away slowly, "Just because we have these weird powers doesn't make us superior," Ben siad quietly; it was a dangerous kind of thinking, in his opinion. He looked around at the others and sighed, "how do you all have so much control?" he inquired, sound a little frustrated by his own failings. Maybe there was just something wrong with him.

"If it makes you feel better, you probably have more control than me," Sam said to Ben. He clenched his fists as he spokexm, unsettled by the idea of using his powers after so long.

Ben looked at Sam the Ryleigh, nodding once; at least he wasn't the only one, "Well...I guess I really haven't had much of an opportunity to practice," he said. He'd been locked away for a long time and before that, his parents really hadn't encouraged him to practice

Sam pursed his lips but started wandering away from the group, looking around the room. No way did this look safe enough to practice his powers in, even if he wanted to. It'd probably explode.

One of the walls slid upwards, which meant that Lana's assumption had been correct, there were other hidden doors. A guard walked in, over to Haruka, holding something in his hands. Lana couldn't make out quite what it was. Whatever it was, it was furry. He handed it off to the mute girl, but not before sticking something right behind her ear. He then left without a word, and Lana just stared after him, watching as the door slid shut again.

"What the f*ck was that?" she demanded, looking at the mute girl directly. She didn't care that she wouldn't be able to interpret the signage or that the girl probably wouldn't answer her anyway. It was just... odd.

Haruka double tapped the attachment behind her ear and then opened her hands and a black weasel crawled up her arm onto her shoulder and sat up straight, staring at Lana before tilting its head and speaking, “A ferret. You’ve never seen a ferret? Haruka. She’s never seen a ferret.” He turned and looked at Haruka who just pet him and rolled her eyes. The ferret curled around Haruka’s neck, “You should have seen that cage they put me in. It was so nice. They gave me a lot of food too. Said they were going to clone a million of me!” Haruka stepped towards the rest of the group, “Ah! Yes! We are Haruka and Luna. When Haruka was imprisoned here five years ago, they gave her me to be a mental translator.”

Randy frowned. "...So now a telepathic talking weasel joins the mix. The world is surely saved." They deadpanned. They always found 'pets' to be sad, trapped creatures. How pitiful of this weasel to be enslaved. "Animal slavery is so cute."

"I have a little metal piece behind my ear, as does she. I just speak for her. I don't know much about the talking part though. That's a secret apparently and I talk too much to be allowed to know," he said and then puffed up his chest proudly, "I am quite cute aren't I?" Haruka pulled him down into her arms and held his close while giving a stern look and clicking her tongue at Randy. Luna looked up at Haruka before telling Randy, "She's unhappy with you for assuming she'd keep me as a slave. I'm a free ferret. I enjoy having someone to talk for."

Haruka pulled away and glared at Ryleigh, but Luna squirmed out of her hands, “Yes. Yes. Yes,” he said and ran up Ryleigh’s leg and onto her arm, “I accept all affection.” Haruka double snapped her fingers but Luna stayed put, “She’s not going to hurt me. You’re being a spoil sport”

Luna’s leg kicked at the sweet feeling of Ryleigh’s feelings and grinned as best a weasel could. He then laughed and looked over at Haruka, “That’s not very nice.” He looked over to Ryleigh, “She’s thinking about breaking more of your ribs”

Lana looked at the ferret curiously. This was just downright bizarre, but she supposed that it wasn't too far fetched, given what they all had in common. "That's... I'm sorry, I still don't understand how this works?"

Luna shook his head, "No, you sillies, not unless you want to have your throat throttled and never be able to speak again," he then hopped down and headed back to Haruka and crawled back to her shoulder, "She says she hopes you all are going to take this seriously."

Ben had seen many strange and unexplainable things, but a talking rodent was certainly a new kind of bizarre; he wondered how they could be expected to take it seriously. "We will try," Ben siad cautiously, eyeing Haruka warily; she was rather intimidating, even without a voice.

Randy stepped over to Haruka and her...enslaved ferret, and leaned towards the duo, sniffing the air a bit before sneering upon hearing Ryleigh's request for animal slaves of their own. "This is ridiculous. I seem to be the only one here who actually functions properly, eh? Either your powers are awry or your brain is screwed or something is wrong with your bodies. How could any of you save the world? Look at yourselves. Cooing over a weasel." They scoffed and crossed their arms, not caring about how offensive or misguided their statements clearly were. "You're all putting your superior nature to shame by acting so low."

"Get off your high horse, dillweed." Sam rolled his eyes at Randy, his jaw tightening in annoyance. "There's nothing superior about you. Or any of us. What we do is all just destruction no matter what the cause is for. So just can it, asshole."

Ryleigh elected to continue ignoring the angry self-absorbed one. "So I guess this means we have to stay here while all this is going on?" Most of these people had been criminals before this; in prison. She couldn't imagine that they'd be allowed their freedom just for promising to do a good deed.
