Title: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: kristina-la on June 30, 2011, 04:48:59 PM
Reading ricks Egyptian book and there was a bit that made me nearly gasp put loud (but didn't cAise it's nearly midnight and I'm in my trailer where my dad is asleep....snoring I might add)

Anyways I want to share it:

I looked across the river to manhattan. It was a great view. When Sadie and I had first arrived at Brooklyn house, Amos had told us that magicians tried to stay out of manhattan. He said manhattan had other problems-what ever that meant. And sometimes when I looked across the water, I could swear I was seeing things...once I thought i saw a flying horse

Hehehe wonder if it was Percy and blackjack? :p Hahah

It's one of the only movies I cried in.  I almost punched the screen, because I loved the book and the movie ruined it.  :P

(I also cried in Marley & Me  :'( )

I don't know how they're gonna make a sequel to that... they cut off so many plot points that are brought back in the second :P

Lol ya-like the fact that in the movie he was DRIVING
The whole point of the books is that when he turns 16....well you know
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: Khoela on July 01, 2011, 10:50:34 AM
exactly... plus no Clarissa :P and a lot of other stuff that I forget... :/
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: shadley on July 01, 2011, 01:06:03 PM
Well Clarissa can easily be introduced in the second one, they can switch 16 to 18 and Luke can be brought back multiple ways. He didn't actually die from Percy's water trident, or he did die and was in Tartarus where he met Kronos and the story continues from there as we know it. Oh and the thing with Thalia and the Oracle and stuff can be intoduced in the second movie too. BUT if they mess it up even a little bit this time it will be hard to continue on with the movies.

Yeah... it'll just get more and more unrelated until it's a different story altogether... although in some states (Idaho) you can get your licence at 15 xD Maybe that'll be the excuse? Except I don't think that would work in NY...
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans

Yeah. . . I know what you mean with the more and more unrelated thing but I'm more used to that with books to tv shows. The latest Premiere of True Blood is great evidence.

Uhuh... I liked the original Vampire Diaries books, I'm an LJ Smith fan, but the show was so different I couldn't follow along and the new books freak me out D:

The new books are a lot to deal with but I actually like them better than the originals because they deal more with supernatural in general rather than just romance. I love those fox spirits thing it reminded me of something off of the show Supernatural. I watch the show still, I think it lessened the blow for me that they got away from the book plot really early on. Unlike True Blood, they followed the first 2 seasons were almost spot on and the 3 season I haven't seen all of but was more off and then the season 4 premiere was just horrible the worst yet.

Yeah, that's true, I do like the whole idea of bringing the Salem witch stuff back too :) I don't think I ever finished it... but the romance did get kinda old... and seriously... How. Many. Times. Can. Elena. Die. Before. They. Get. Rid. Of. Her. I loved Bonnie, but Elena was annoying :P

Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: jessinator11 on July 01, 2011, 04:13:21 PM
to get semi on topic...

loved the book, wanted to throw my popcorn bucket at the movie (i resisted that urge by walking out).  I by no means expected it to be exactly like the book, because there's no possible way they could do that, but at least keep the same plot!  It was as though they never read the book!  They just saw the names of the characters, figured out their basic backgrounds, found out about camp half blood, and went on with their own little plot!

You know that's one of the origins of the name Seth. Set is the God of chaos and sandstorms in Egyptian gods.

In the movie, they changed stuff that didn't even need to be changed.  :P  Like the entrance to the underworld was supposed to be through the record company.  (And Annabeth's hair wasn't blonde)
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: oraldisaster101 on July 02, 2011, 08:29:33 AM
@Bea-la
It's Annabeth not Annabell but ya for some reason it really got to me how the characters looked nothing like how you expected them to from the books. Obviously I don't expect it to be perfect but still they could try I mean did you see Grover! (not that I'm racist or anything)
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: shadley on July 02, 2011, 10:32:29 AM
Don't worry I felt the same way. I think it was more because grover actually was never described physically, riordan could have at least thrown out the concept "he's black" in one of the books. Oh and guess what I saw on IMDB, I don't totally trust it but it would be cool. It says Kaya Scodelario is playing Thalia Grace.

I actually wasn't going to start in on it, I'm still reeling at the prospect of Kaya as Thalia.

@Seth
I'm pretty sure he described Grover at some point in the series as having red curly hair, though I can't check  cuz I don't own any of the books (not a big re-reader), and have you ever seen a black with red hair? I haven't and doubt I ever will u

I think he had curly brown hair. . . And I did think they were referencing the greeks in the egyptian book. Anyone up for a greek vs. egyptian showdown?  ;) ;)
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans

greek would win hands down but hey why not I enjoy all these online wars

well now that I think about it it kinda depends are you talking about there religion or like the entire civilization or just how there portrayed in Riordans books?
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: pageinbooks on July 03, 2011, 08:23:03 AM
well i meant riordans books, since i like his greek and roman books much better than his egyptian books. by the other ones. .  i dunno.
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans

well im pretty sure everyone likes his greek/roman books more but I would like to hear the opinions od someone who didn't know just have to find that person

hmm i have a friend who is a big egyptian fan so she likes his egyptian books better but sadly she is not on the forum.  :-[
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: oraldisaster101 on July 03, 2011, 08:38:05 AM
I think it's mostly because he wrote those books first so everyone read them before and was already used to those characters. Plus they are just way better (in my opinion not trying to offend anyone)!!!!
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: pageinbooks on July 03, 2011, 08:39:26 AM
yeah. i also think the plotline made more sense.
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: shadley on July 03, 2011, 09:34:22 AM
Don't worry I think everyone agrees with you. I know I do, I tried to read the Egyptian ones but I couldn't get into the first book it felt a little forced. The characters didn't seem as good as the others and I don't think it was just that I knew the others first because I liked the new characters in the Lost Hero just fine. I think the story just wasn't as inspired as Percy Jackson was.
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: oraldisaster101 on July 03, 2011, 09:44:08 AM
agreed I had to force myself to read the 1st book cuz I knew that it would probably get better later in the series and it sort of did but it's still got nothing on Percy Jackson and probably never will!!! Have you read the second book?
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: shadley on July 03, 2011, 09:49:39 AM
Oh I never even got through the 1st one, at the time I got it from my public library I also had other books so about 30 pages into it I though "Ok this is boring me and I know I have better books waiting."
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans

Yeah same here except I forced myself to finish. :P
Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans
Post by: shadley on July 03, 2011, 10:01:19 AM
Yeah the bad thing is I very rarely quit on a book. I think I just had much higher expectations since Percy was so good.

Title: Re: To you Percy jackson fans

same for me but (as I've already said) like pageinbooks I forced myself to read it. Don't you hate when you're waiting for one book and you already have a bunch of others at home but you just can't make yourself read them? I think that is one of the worst feeling you can have that's related to books

Ok well some that I read really fast, just recently too, are the Forbidden Game series by LJ Smith where Jenny gets a game for a party she is having for her boyfriend and their friends but the game turns real and each one of them must face their fears to win. I really recommend this series for your slump because it's only a trilogy and I read them in no time, they were so good. It's almost like a good horror movie series.
