Title: Just a thought...
Post by: Ali-wa on October 16, 2009, 12:41:18 PM
Wouldn't it be cool if the Uglies series was continued? ??? I think it would be awesome and make a lot of readers happy, but thats just my opinion....what do you think?

I think Scott finished it up quite nicely, and I think that if he continued it then the series would drag on too much. I feel like the story was already complete after 'Specials' but 'Extras' did add a perspective that really gave the world a whole new meaning. I liked how the series turned out and I think it worked to be done in 4 books. If the series were to be continued any more, then I think it should have another new perspective and not feature Tally. I know I may make some people upset by that comment, but I feel like Tally has done her part for the story already, and anything more might turn out to be overkill.

yea, I see what you mean. I really liked the series and liked how it left me wanting more and I just still have the aching feeling after extras! Grr, its so frustrating but I definitely see your point.

I understand that aching feeling for sure! I've felt like that after so many books =P I guess that's just what happens when you fall in love with a story and just can't get enough of it. I tend to read books more than once, and it helps the feeling a bit.

Maybe you could try writing your own continuation of the story? Not as plagiarism or stealing Scott's ideas, but maybe as a fan fiction? Those are always fun to write.

haha, I reread books 24/7. God, was I obssessed with Harry Potter and Twilight, I could never get enough of it! lol

As for Fan-Fiction...sad to say, I would ruin it for myself =( I love to read an invision what the author was thinking of and seeing while writing, but when it comes to me putting down what i see in words on paper, basically, i suck at it! lol Don't get me wrong, I have had some awesome ideas for stories and really did try to "write a book" but it wasn't quite looking nor sounding write. Heck, last year in my honors junior english class at high school, my teacher told me i sucked at writing and I'm screwed at even attempting to write any papers for him for his class! :(

That teacher really sucks. Seriously, if you want to write and if you want to get better at it, then the best way to go about that is by writing! The more you write and practice writing, and also the more you read, the better you will get.
And as for worrying about ruining the story for yourself, you never know until you try ;) You could always try to write a bit and see where it leads you. It could even lead you onto your own original idea. Also, having you envision the story is really what the author is aiming for. He obviously did his job if you can see it clearly in your head.

I'd say if you want to write, then there is nothing stopping you. Even if it doesn't look right at first, just keep going. Don't worry about how it looks right away. It's the ideas and the story that matters first, and then you can tweak it later.

I wish it was that easy...have you wrote any Fan Ficts?
Title: Re: Just a thought...
Post by: Tash-la on October 16, 2009, 01:31:52 PM
I've written a few before, but none were based on books. I find it fun to add to the characters and make new ones, and it provides you with a setting and genre already.

true i guess...

so do u know any other good sci-fi writers similar to Westerfeld's type of writing?
Title: Re: Just a thought...
Post by: Tash-la on October 16, 2009, 01:39:55 PM
I haven't found any sci fi writers that I like quite as much as Scott Westerfeld. I like it when sci fi is unique and when they stand out they tend to be totally different. I really liked the sci fi book 'Ender's Game' by Orson Scott Card but I don't think it's anything like Uglies at all.
I made a Book Suggestion topic with a list of some books I like, maybe you could check out some of those and let me know what kinds of books you like too. That way I can see if I can dig up a few you might enjoy.

I think it be cool but hes writing the ether book series right now so. I will wait
Title: Re: Just a thought...
Post by: Ali-wa on October 16, 2009, 10:36:10 PM
oh of course! lol i can wait and i doubt he adds another book to the series, i think hes done, but i like to think of the possibility of him adding to the Uglies :)

I don't think he should. Uglies/Pretties/Specials were brilliant, and while Extras was good, it was the weak point of the series.

Post by: Kaye-la on October 20, 2009, 02:03:12 PM
i really don't care. if he makes another one i'll love it of course but if he doesn't i think it ended a good spot and i'll be happy with that.
Title: Re: Just a thought...
Post by: Ali-wa on October 20, 2009, 02:13:33 PM
yea, it all just depends on the author and how he feels about it i guess....
Title: Re: Just a thought...

yep. either ways cool with me

i would love another book i'm always left wanting to read more after the end of the series- there should be a book about Udzir and the inhumans living in orbit  ;D

lol yeah, id just like to see a whole othe prospective, like maybe doc cabel as a uglie lol or maybe tallys child lol
Title: Re: Just a thought...
Post by: Chloe-Wa on November 06, 2009, 04:14:27 AM
that's a good idea g-la david and tally should have a special/ugly child but that might be really weird...
Title: Re: Just a thought...
Post by: Heliopteryx on December 07, 2009, 02:28:12 PM
But the kid wouldn't be a hybrid, it'd be just a normal kid!  Being a special or a pretty doesn't change your DNA.
Title: Re: Just a thought...
Post by: Ellen-wa on December 07, 2009, 02:30:49 PM
I think that would be awesome. Cuz Tally and David are together forever and I don't care what anyone else says. lol (one of my friends found David annoying and it hurt me to the very core.)

i was soooo sad when zane died  :'(   it would be cool if their child was a hybrid though...

For example, if both parents get their left hand cut off, the kid will still have both hands.

i understand the science i know about dna and inheritance etc im just saying if it were a hybrid it would be cool without thinking scientifically

Eh.. I didn't really love the whole Extra's book since it was about Aya(i think that's her name?), but I love the way he ended it. So, I don't think he should. *advanced warning to twilight fans* but I think it'd drag on like Twilight..

Yep.. I love the books, I just wouldn't read if he continued the series. It'd drag on... and I hate books like that

I read a book series that was 16 books long.  It really dragged on, like the aforementioned book.  IT took three years to read.

I'd still read it, but I do know what you guys mean.
it's like sequels
I do remeber scott saying he might one day write it from shays perspective
that would be cool

To me, Shay seems like she's the real main character, while the story is being told from Tally's p.o.v.
Title: Re: Just a thought...
Post by: Ellen-wa on December 09, 2009, 03:08:20 PM
Yeah, I can see that... Shay is the big leader, and if it weren't for her being so, Tally wouldn't have started all of this.

i read a 13 book series but it wasnt a hard series- it was a series of unfortunate events but i liked those books  :)
i thought extras was good and i think it would be cool to see the series from shay's pov but i liked it from tally's view anyway cos she went through a lot and a lot of the interesting things like the romances etc were about tally

Esme also tried to smoke the flares.  Meaning, she lit the flares and then tried to inhale through them.

as a movie it's great
as a movie based on the books it's pretty bad
Title: Re: Just a thought...
Post by: JimmyLost on December 13, 2009, 09:48:49 AM
not really I find that alot of movies based on books are great as visual versions of a writen story
but as movies, wached out of contex, are confusing and too ploty
Title: Re: Just a thought...
Post by: JimmyLost on December 13, 2009, 09:54:31 AM
ya I get what you mean
usualy if there's going to be a faithful adaptation of a book with most/all the details it's a b movie
or a made for tv movie
which can be realy boreing

i agree that the film was really good but when you compare it to the books its pretty different but count olaf really matches the illustrations in the book
