Title: Language
Post by: tridecagirl on January 17, 2012, 11:29:15 PM
Ok, guys. I've had a few complaints about language on here. Now, I get that a lot of you are late teens or adults, and that's normal for you. You're just expressing your emotions/freedom of speech/etc, and that's ok. However, we do have to remember that there are preteens and early teens on here that might not be used to this kind of thing. So I'm hopefully going to set some ground rules. If any of you guys think they go too far or not far enough, tell me and I'll try my best to tweak them.

1. Using curse words in RPs, poetry, or other methods of creative expression are allowed.
2. You may never curse directly at another forumer. (Calling someone a bad word is out.)
3. Before you use a swear word, consider if it's really  necessary to make your point.
4. If it is necessary, try to bleep it out. (s**t, d**n, etc.)

Hopefully that can strike a balance between our swearers and those of pure language.

Yay! I've been trying to cut the swearing thing down for a while, I'm glad for the new rules.

They are now official. *nods*

What about Confessions
Title: Re: Language
Post by: Seth-la on January 20, 2012, 11:49:32 AM
I'm guessing that would fall under rules 3-4, meaning think about the necessity and if it is necessary then use *s
Title: Re: Language
Post by: PATT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on January 20, 2012, 11:59:17 AM
But it could also be classified as other methods of creative expression so 1
Title: Re: Language
Post by: snowybunny12 on January 20, 2012, 12:03:47 PM
If you phrase it as a poem yes.
Title: Re: Language
Post by: PATT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on January 20, 2012, 12:05:26 PM
No it doesnt have to because it says Using curse words in RPs, poetry, or other methods of creative expression are allowed.
Title: Re: Language
Post by: Seth-la on January 20, 2012, 12:10:18 PM
But I'm not sure confessions is a method of creative expression.

...So, this means no more random cursing?

Yay!
Title: Re: Language
Post by: tridecagirl on January 21, 2012, 08:20:58 AM
Yeah, Pat, by creative expression I mean fiction like short stories and stuff.

This is a good idea.... Thanks Deca:)
Title: Re: Language
Post by: holywalrus2 on January 22, 2012, 01:09:28 AM
These are good... But I think we should be allowed to swear on Confessions. I mean, It's a venting thread. If you want to read it, you should be ready to see some swears. :/
Title: Re: Language
Post by: tridecagirl on January 22, 2012, 01:55:26 AM
Then I think rules 3 and 4 ought to apply.
Title: Re: Language
Post by: alext1009 on January 25, 2012, 05:57:38 PM
Good idea Deca ^_^ it'll make the people who don't curse feel more respected.

Shoundnt we try to keep this bumped
Title: Re: Language
Post by: Bea-la on March 25, 2012, 03:57:00 AM
Good idea Deca. It's a bit annoying when people swear a lot.  Another thing I think you should add, is no putting swear words in a topic title.
Title: Re: Language
Post by: Seth-la on March 25, 2012, 04:59:25 AM
Yeah, this isn't being totally followed. I would think people would know not to put swears in a topic title, but still a good idea.

I don't thinl I swear on here
I don't swear that much irl either just because I don't feel the need to

I admit, I say the d-word more then I should (I blame influence from my grandpa and mother), and occasionally the s-word. I've been trying to stop though. I think the f-word is never justified though, it's just really not necessary. Being only 13, I really shouldn't be saying things like that anyway. -_-
Title: Re: Language
Post by: Seth-la on March 25, 2012, 02:02:56 PM
I don't like using any of them, especially in public. It's one thing to hit your toe and let a swear slip out. It's totally different when you use it all the time for random reasons. Those words are supposed to be powerful, you relinquish that power when you use them commonly.
Title: Re: Language
Post by: Nina-Chan on March 25, 2012, 04:04:57 PM
yea
i will say hell and damn because growing up in a non religious setting, they are hardly swears to me
instead of a** my new thing is arsenic (what a pain the the arsenic) i like saying that
otherwise i dont swear unless i am hyper or mad and even them it is with my friends only

oh and i don't consider bastard a bad word either but i dont use it so whatyevs
Title: Re: Language
Post by: snowybunny12 on March 25, 2012, 10:03:22 PM
In my opinion of you swear constantly it loses it's strength. If you only swear when you're upset then people realize when you're really upset. Otherwise it just becomes a thing to say when you want to push the boudaries or to horrify.
Title: Re: Language
Post by: Nina-Chan on March 25, 2012, 10:05:40 PM
i agree

in my book if a character swears  you know they are reeally pissed.
Title: Re: Language
Post by: snowybunny12 on March 25, 2012, 10:08:26 PM
Sometimes in books my characters swear all the time, but only if that's part of their personality. I make their word choice reflect who they are.
Title: Re: Language
Post by: Nina-Chan on March 25, 2012, 10:14:12 PM
i gues
i have a charrie though who seems like the type who would swear a lot. He swears more than my other charries but it is still rare.
Title: Re: Language
Post by: Deryn Sharpie on March 25, 2012, 11:11:30 PM
My charrie says d*** quite a lot, (when she's angry, which is many a time) My mother is probably the most religious person you could think of, and she says the d word (But only really when she's angry... which is often... XD) Lets just say that my Mom's side of the family has short tempers.

Title: Re: Language

Yeah I agree.  And I'm a bit confused about Confessions.  Is swearing okay there?
Title: Re: Language
Post by: tridecagirl on October 05, 2012, 10:45:29 PM
Creative expression in this case really refers to fiction - poems, short stories, RPs when you're in character, that kind of stuff. I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear enough.
In Confessions there are usually strong emotions and some words are going to get through, but try your best to star them, especially if someone asks.

Okay.  I really don't swear much, but there was little bit of a dispute about it.  :P

Title: Re: Language
Post by: Panzercrappitastica on June 08, 2013, 08:24:36 AM
I think swearing is okay when you really mean it an in stories, but when it's not fitting for context it's annoying. Especially when there is no context. Some people at my school will just scream swear words without context, and it is SO ANNOYING. I think people should be able to swear in Confessions, though, as long as they use *s.

I think I am safe, since I really don't swear in text, and say BLEEP in real life. Just habit, I suppose.

Beacause the main character usually says bleep instead of cussing.
Title: Re: Language

Awesome! I just started that on my own a few years ago. Gives me something to say, and usually amuses people instead of offending them.

I just looked it up, and am a little unsure. Can you reassure me that it isn't a twilight mimic?
Title: Re: Language

Got all three and have read two so far. Crawling through the third one now. Sadly, my favorite scene has to be chapter one in book one. Still, not bad, just not my favorite.
