Title: Uglies. Do you really know it?
Post by: Lexa-Wa on October 04, 2012, 01:02:18 AM
What if it has different things about it that Scott put in there to make us thing. We are learning about symbols and i was rereading it the other day and started seeing more under story to it. Thoughts?

When you've read it as much as I have you do.

I do that too. Especially if I'm having a bad day or something.

Confirmed. Though I do it mainly as fanfiction fodder. THAT is my comfert, the actual writing of the fiction...

To each their own. I'm a little...DETACHED from my writing honestly. But then again, I'm a slightly autistic dude. I don't really DO emotional connections.
But back on teh actual topic, I have a hard time drawing connections between things in Uglies and things in the real world. I just see the tech, and then what the tech could be, and then people using said tech that could be to show the people in the story what's for-and then before I know it I'm writing a fic involving some uber-Special supersoldier kicking Tally through a tree.

I do, but...maybe I don't get caught up in it? I don't do "the feels" thing that some FF writers do. I...know where the line of fiction and reality is, yeah, that works.

Something from Tumblr. From what I can tell, its basically when your mind fails to differentiate between fiction and reality and you react to events in a fictional universe as you would in real life. Hence people crying at the Harry Potter books, the angsting following the most recent Dr. Who episodes, the outcry from Twilight fans over...everything.

That be the feels alright.
Still haven't read HG, and I don't know if I will. Every time I look at it I get this sour feeling in my mind and I put it back on the shelf. Its like...I don't want to read it because everyone else is reading it and I don't want it to become more of a sensation than it already is. That, or I'm afraid that reading it will destroy the little picture I have in my mind that it's trash, same as Twilight, and I'm doing the right thing by not reading it...

Not saying it is...that's just what I'm telling myself because I don't want to admit I missed my chance to be a fan of it before it got popular. I like to be fans of things people aren't usually fans of; the "punk" spectrum, military sci-fi, military stuff over all, ETC. And I missed my chance with this, so I'm kicking myself.

Possibly...but now I have more outsider books to read instead of it.
Necromancing the Stone, check.
Skyship Acadamy books 1 and 2, check.
Halo: The Thursday War, check.
HALO 4 (ONE MONTH AWAY), check.
Halo: Silentium, check.

Its the sequel to a locally (meaning Seattle) based and written urban fantasy story called Hold Me Closer, Necromancer. Very well written. Its...I don't know how to describe it really. It DOES go into the sexual side of werewolf's though, which I like. Good read.

Don't expect to find it. It's not spectacularly well known outside of Seattle. Still you're welcome to look.

Yes. Henry Holt is the name on the dust cover of Necromancing the Stone, currently residing next to my keyboard.

Met him to, but you already know that.
Regarding that, I don't think I can make it to his meet up...or did it already happen?

He wasn't amazing, I'm sorry to say. He was near the end of his tour so he was a little tired...but he was funny, and an easy talker. No hesitation. He also knew how to speak to teens. Was pretty good about answering questions, though most of them were from fat chicks wanting Alek for themselves regarding Alek and Deryn's post-Goliath romance life. Ate up all my question time.

On that...like I said I may not be able to make it. You think you could ask him some questions in my place? They're good ones, like yours. Possibly some of the same...

I love Blue Steak, Magnum, Gemini, Maverick's good when the lines aren't bad,  Millennium Force, Iron Dragon's.  and I liked Demon Drop and Disaster Transport before they got rid of them.  :( Oh and I love the haunted walks and the haunted house, even though something weird always happens when I go in them.

Too bad, it's only and hour and 1/2 from me, but I can't go much because my family's weak and does not understand the beauty of theme parks or why we should spend money on them.
