Me being totally stupid JUST found out that some characters don't have last names.
David, Maddy&Az-Shay and others as well...

Just fill in the blank and make up a name for them.

Talk to Fanna about that, I'm sure she's come up with some for them...I know she's got a whole headcanon for Cable
Honestly though, I think last names don't mean much in pretty culture...no one uses them. Its probably got somethign to do with the fact that, once you're old enough to move away from your parents, you do. And then you never really see them agian. One of the reasons you have a last name is to trace your lineage, and if that's not important...
Which of course makes me wonder...when pretties get married, do they agree on a new last name for themselves?

OHMYGODNO like I always wondered that too!!!!!! About the marriage thing. I mean...they definitely do get married in that world....but whose last name does the child take? I would imagine that the people in the Uglies universe would find always taking the father's name to be horribly patriarchal....but I don't have any other ideas.

And....the only character I've bothered thinking up all that stuff for would be Cable   

I think, their children get the Last Name, that fits better to their name - or the Last Name of the mother,  I mean, the Uglies-Universe is a bit feminist.

But the Last Names of the Characters... I don't have good Ideas.
Maybe the Last Names of the Actors from the film.
So, if they take my dreamcast - I bet, the dont do that - the charakters have this names:

David Linke
Zane Moio
Croy Jamieson
Peris Hoult
Astrix Prescott ...

You would think they would need to know who's related to who to prevent inbreeding tho, I mean, the City population didn't sound too big.

The population is a little over a million people I believe....pretty damn sure I read that in the books.

And yeah....if there's ever another meetup with Scott, we must ask him how the last names get passed down!!

Five bucks says that, like fabrication, he never figured it out.

The only way to know is to ask him to actually talk to him somewhere or type him the question.

Andrew Simpson Smith has a last name, too...
But his last name doesn't make sense, because the last name Smith comes from people being blacksmiths, but if he's in a pre-Rusty village, they won't have had blacksmiths yet. Just saying. Also, I'm not sure they even had last names at all.
