About a sequel trilogy...
« on: May 29, 2014, 08:12:42 PM »

I really loved Leviathan Trilogy and now I feel like I can't live without Alek, Deryn, Volger, Barlow and the Leviathan. I think there's a large space for at least two trilogy: One trilogy that continue the adventures of Alek, Deryn and Barlow between the WWI and WWII and a second trilogy that could speak of the WWII, but, maybe, with new characters. I think these would be awesome!
But these are just my hopes. How do you think about it? I hope Scott Westerfeld could read this topic. XD

in the afterward to the last book it was heavily implied that World War 2 doesn't happen in that universe and in the manual of aeronautics there is a
picture entitled " The coexistence Treaty of 1914"

See picture here:  http://scottwesterfeld.com/blog/2012/08/the-manual-is-out/

The coexistence Treaty of 1916*
And yes, I read it. But what about the job that Dr. Barlow gave to Deryn and Alek in the end? It could lead to other books in the future! Now I am like Alek after he watched the episode "The Perils of Pauline". XD

Your both wrong, its the Treaty of 1915.
And as much as I hate to admit it, Westerfeld closed up the end pretty damn good...any sequel would either A) cover the boring life of a boffin's asstaint or B) require some SERIOUS groundshaking changes in the universe. And something tells me that isnt gonna happen.

Oh right! O:
I liked the ending too. It's just a "selfish wish" to continue reading their adventure, even if they will work as boffin's assistants. XD But thinking about it... Scott didn't say that there will not be a WWII. He just said that the WWI will end in a different way.(Do I remember right? O.o) So, there may be or not a WWII. It all depends to him.

It's interesting; remarkably similar conversations seem to end up happening with every new Leviathan fan. I guess that's because WWII seems like a logical next step from WWI.

Despite the fact that the end of Goliath pretty damn well explains that it wouldn't be happening...
Which is sad, because I really wanted to see Germany be obliterated by the Darwinist equivilent of the atom bomb.

Well, you're right. But even if there had be no WWII, I would have prefered a continuation to the story. After I ended the Leviathan series I feel like I was brought there little by little and then... "*kick* Out of our world!". T_T With this I'm not saying that I didn't like the ending but... it's like... I don't know how to explain how I felt it! XD

A little OT question:
Scott Westerfeld is writing a new book, Afterworlds, right? Did you know anything else about it? Like genre, etc.

it's about this girl who is going off to college and rewriting fantasy novel she wrote in high school.
Afterworlds switches  perspectives between the girl that wrote the book and the girl's story that she wrote.

It's the Scott Westerfeld forum, you can't expect people not to talk about his new book. (And besides, you made a topic about it earlier.)
