in regards to the YA world part of this book, I am reminded of JK Rowling's book The Silkworm. Afterworlds is like Owen Quine's novel,
Bombyx Mori! A book with a pile of references to authors and publishers in the (british) writing community (the book that pisses everyone off and gets him killed).
of course, Scott's book isn't a bashing fest with gross sexual metaphors
