Posted.

So a bit of worldbuilding here: I'm thinking that cities are quazi-alive and aware, due to the concentrated power of the lives, hopes, dreams, and fears of their populations. They will often chose certain people to serve as a failsafe/antibody/gardian role. These people are called Warlocks, and draw their power from the city itself.
Witches are the most common magic users, ranging from the teen who uses a potion, glammor or charm for their looks or a boost while studying, to rather powerful hexers.
Sorcerers call on powers from beyond the mortal plain. Demons, spirits of the land, ancestral spirits, etc.
Priests are those who serve a detiy, and call on their powers for aid.
Alchemists, apply the scientific method to magic, their potions and elixars ranging from street drugs on up.

Races:
Humanity shares this plane with several other races, many far older then we.
Demons: often summoned from another plain by sorcerers, many who remain here have adapted to our world, often preying on the unsuspecting.
Dragons: a legacy from the age of reptiles and the first race native to this plain to achieve sentience, dragons tend to veiw themselves as above the others.
The Fey: a blending of nature and ancestral spirits, the fey have long been our companions, guides and adversaries.

Demons; subtypes:
Inccubus/Succubus
Vampire (see also: Necromancy and the undead)

With the excceptions of very old examples, demons actualy have little practical magic. They do however often serve as sources of power for sorcerers, who summon them to serve as magical generators.

Magic, rules and limitations:
The laws of thermodynamics state that matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed, only change form. Magic is no different. Magic cannot create anything new, only shape that which already exists, from the Alchemist's transmutations, to the warlock drawing current from the overhead lines.
Following the same rule is the precept that all magic costs a price. From the magics that only drain one's energy, to the sorcerer who must sell his soul.

Necromancy and the undead:
Let it be made clear, that it is imposible to restore a soul to the body. A person cannot be truely brought back to life. Necromancy is a subdiscipline of sorcery, specializing in reanimating a body by implacing a spiritual being within.
Zombies and other gouls: these are the easiest form of undead, created when a minion level demon is placed in the corpse, often to be used as cannon fodder.
Vampire: A vampire is created when a demon is implaced into a living body, simultaneously killing and trapping the soul within. The condition can be spread by an exchange of blood that would normally be fatal to the human, but still leaves it lesser than the original vampire. The original kind are called Nosferatu, while the other are called Stragori. For farther information on Nosferatu powers, consult Bram Stoker. Stragori maintain their sire's need for blood, speed and strength.

Sorcery:
Sorcery is the practice of drawing  on the power of a patron or familiar, often as part of a business deal.
Disciplines of sorcery:
Demonic
One must sell one's soul to  the dark powers in exchange for the ability to summon demons to supply power and do one's bidding.
Draconic.
One exchanges wealth or other favors for access to its magic potential.
Fey
One provides offerings of food, drink, blood, or some other valued gift for the favor of those who have passed on, or the spirits of the land.  If one is a practicing witch, this makes one a Shamen.

Are fey more like people with innate magic or more like ethereal otherworldly beings with weirdness going on?

The Fey:
Subtypes
Nature Spirit
Ancestral Spirit
Nature Spirits often take the form of animals, but can take human form with some of the traits of their animal selves.
Ancestral Spirits are the collective force of those who have passed. They do not retain as much individuality as their natural counterparts, but can be more influential in the affairs of the living, and more focused as a whole, as well as being in general more benevolent.

Are ancestral spirits distinct for each family line, or are they part of a collective spirit that represents all of humanity?
