Scott vs. Darcy
« on: December 20, 2014, 09:58:03 AM »

So I just finished Afterworlds and I couldn't help but wonder how much of Darcy's character and the conflict she goes through as a writer (ie her relationship with Imogen and interactions with other authors) are similar to what Scott went though as an author? I mean I'm not calling him out for being a Mary Sue or anything but I just think its would be a cool question to ask or to pick his brain about.

THoughts?

I'd imagine that at least parts of it must come from his own experience. But a lot of it also couldn't. Like the worries about using a deity for YA hotness. I'm pretty sure Scott never used a deity for YA hotness until Afterworlds.

Technically speaking, Scott didn't use a deity for YA hotness. He used a deity to portray an author using a deity for YA hotness. In terms of Scott's purpose for using the aforementioned deity, the YA hotness was more or less a by-product.

Um, what was this thread about again?

Scott specifically said that some of Darxy's experiences reflected his own, and some didn't. I'm pretty sure the authors Darcy met were loosely based on real-life writers Scott has met.

YA hotness was a byproduct? XD

I wonder what a mere-side effect would be?

It sounds like the sort of term that would be used in time-traveling thought experiments.

Or something relating to meerkats.

Like how they used to send monkeys into space. But meerkats. Maybe it'd be sort of like the butterfly effect..

Me too! I did see a special about it on TV today, though.
Do you know if I can find it online?
