Thomas went to Maggie and drew her into his arms, "We'll see Charles again," Thomas assured his sister while looking over at Peggy

Maggie gripped her brother tight, burying her face in his chest. “Everything’s gone upside down,” she told him. “I want my old life back.”

Thomas held onto her, his unbeating heart breaking for Maggie, "I know, I know...I'm so sorry Maggs," Thomas whispered.

"What a shame," Marina sighed, shoving the bag back into her pocket. "You're cute, but useless. So you'll have to die." With that she pulled a pistol out from under her coat, aiming it right between his eyes.

"Woah, woah!" Charles raised his hands up and jumped back. "Look, I dunno what you're playing, but there's no reason to kill me! What'd I even do?!"

Marina considered him for a moment, the wheels clearly turning in her head. She lowered her gun, giving him a twisted grin. "You're free to go, then. Sorry about all the trouble."

Charles blinked in surprise, then eyed her suspiciously. "Al...right, then." He stepped back a few paces, still watching her with confusion.

"I'm sure I'll find them on my own, and when I do, I'll string them all up in the sun and watch them burn," she told him cheerily. "Keep your ears peeled for the sound of demon screams, I'm sure you'll find it absolutely beautiful." She turned then and started walking away, an odd spring in her step.

Charles' stomach sank as he realized that meant his siblings. It wasn't just Nico or Peggy, it meant this would happen to Thomas and Maggie. He couldn't allow that.

(Oh yes, because Peggy's been SO awful to him. After she poured her heart out to him and cried and everything. Wow)

Maggie squeezed Thomas tightly before she pulled away, drying her eyes. “I don’t want this,” she told him in a soft voice. “How are we supposed to just watch our family grow old and die?”

Peggy looked up from her phone call and raised an eyebrow and then looked down in her lap. She felt immense guilt.

Thomas looked down at his sister, his hands falling to his sides; if he hadn't asked Maggie and Charles to stay for a few more days, Maggie wouldn't have been turned. She would be free to pursue her dreams in the city. "I...I don't know Maggs," Thomas said quietly, "It won't be easy, but at least we have each other"

Marina walked off, though she didn't go that far. She had an inkling, call it feminine intuition, that the boy felt something for at least one of the monsters. Perhaps he'd known them when they were still human? Either way she had a feeling he wouldn't just sit by while she made threats towards them. He would want to warn them, and she would follow.
