Peggy went about toasting the bread and laying it on a tray. She looked over at Shirley and swallowed, “Thomas has told me a lot about you”

Shirley stirred up the soup, glancing back at the three boys absently. “Has he?” The soup was ready. “Get some bowls down, will you sweetheart?” She tasted a bit of the soup. “Hopefully he hasn’t been too hard on his old mother now.”

Peggy shook her head as she grabbed the bowls, “No of course not. In fact, it just makes it more intimidating to meet you. I have to live up to such a wonderful woman’s standards.”

Shirley smiled, positively charmed. “Oh you’re too kind.” She started spooning the soup into the bowls. “There’s no need to be intimidated. You seem a positively lovely girl. How did you meet my son?”

Nico was sat beside Charles, lazily lounging in the old wooden chair, looking around the place as he did so. It was quaint, in a sickeningly homely sort of way. He overheard Peggy's conversation with Mrs. Bloodbag then and it caught his attention. Oh, how would she explain her meeting Thomas?

“When your children were stranded in the snow, I welcomed them into my home in the wood. That is how Thomas and I met. I suppose he was so taken with me from our meeting that...he wanted to stay,” Peggy said quietly.

Shirley took two of the bowls to the table for the boys. “So very much like him to do.” She rubbed Thomas’ head. “And you?” She asked Nico. “It seems you’ve got my daughter quite taken with you as well.”

Charles turned to Nico and raised an eyebrow, curious to see what he would say to that.

"I was Peggy's mechanic, I repaired their car when they stayed with us " Nico replied smoothly, crossing his arms. "Maggie and I then sort of... hit it off, you could say."

"You could say that," Charles said snidely before taking a sip of some water on the table.

Shirley turned to Charles with eyebrows raised. “You could say that, hm?” She asked her son. “What does that mean?”

Charles choked into his drink and set it down as he coughed. "Sorry, I don't mean anything. They just hit it off real quick. They all did," he covered.

“Eat your soup,” Shirley instructed, eyeing the boys suspiciously. There was something she didn’t like about Nico, and that made her wonder about Peggy’s intentions as well.

Peggy sat down at the table and gently scooped the spoonfuls of soup into her mouth. She smiled softly, remembering that first night when the trio arrived at her house, and beef stew was their first meal they all shared.

Robert sighed and let her go but keeping his hands on her shoulders and looking at her carefully, "I...I understand that but you are unmarried and still so young. You should be home with us still," he said. He wasn't ready to let her go.

Thomas saw the suspicion in his mother's eyes as she looked at Nico; even if she did not understand what they were, she had a sense that something was different. Thomas just hoped they could get through there visit without the truth coming out. He was not sure his parents could handle such information.
"this is delicious as always Ma," Thomas said after his first taste.
