Maggie frowned, she had momentarily forgotten. It was so easy to pretend nothing was awry when she didn’t look much younger than she was supposed to. “Oh yeah...right. Silly me.” She touched her hair, it would never grow again.

Peggy sighed, “I promise, you can always come to me for help or to talk. I’ve been doing this for 50 years and wow, that...number can be difficult but I’ve lived through women having to wear collars and not show wrists or ankles to now when women hardly keep their legs from showing. I witnessed the Great War. But I also have watched my parents go and my friends pass on. At the very least, we will not be alone. We will always have each other,” she said to Maggie and put her hand over the girl’s.

“I don’t need help, I’m doing just fine,” Maggie said defensively, loathe to look helpless or afraid for her future. Of course she was, and Peggy knew that much, but she couldn’t admit that in front of Nico and her brother. “I don’t know how I’m going to keep up with the fashions, though,” she said, voice softer and airier, trying to divert the situation. “If I can’t cut my hair.”

Peggy washed the glasses out, contemplating the lack of travel Thomas and she had shared, the conversation she’d had with Maggie about Nico, and mortality and how much she missed it. She was starting to doubt again if Thomas wouldn’t feel regrets.

Maggie paced the guest bedroom anxiously, she had already changed for bed and still had not had the guts to talk to Nico. She didn’t know what she would do when he walked in, if she would be able to have that conversation. Perhaps if she just left it, they would naturally drift apart.

Thomas had gone off to their study to write a quick letter to his brother, explaining that Maggie had returned from her travels and inviting Charles to come visit; he'd carefully placed the letter in an envelope and put it aside before joining Peggy in the kitchen. He put his arms around her from behind and left a trail of gentle kissed down her neck

Peggy paused and just breathed as Thomas kissed her. She let her frustrated look twist into a smile, “Not while your sister is here, Mr. Juniper,” she said quietly, just playing with him. She dried the last glass and then leaned back in his arms, “Are you happy?” She whispered.

"As long as I have you, I will always be happy Peggy," Thomas said, not understanding why she was asking, "I know we're going through a difficult time, but I have faith we will get through it one way or another," Thomas said.

Peggy looked back at him, “I will always love you.” She told him and then cupped his face, “I can’t wait to see the world but I only wanna see it with you”

Thomas smiled and kissed her tenderly, "I promise, one day we will," he whispered

She kissed him back more fervently and slipped her hand along his chest tenderly. “Maybe if you’re quiet,” she whispered.
