"We would love to help you, anyway we can," Thomas said. He was wary of what it meant for Elizabeth to be joining their family but if Charles would be made this happy by the union, then Thomas couldn't help but share in their excitement.

Elizabeth smiled gratefully at Thomas and continued eating.
"Oh, speaking of - Tommy, how'd you feel about being the best man?" Charles asked, turning to his brother.

Thomas beamed, "Of course Charlie, it would be my honour," Thomas replied; he of course, expected Charles to ask him. He would have been rather hurt if he had not.  "

"Knew it. Liz told me I had to ask, even though it really was just a given." He rolled his eyes good naturedly and then smiled at his bride, who just looked at him with an unimpressed expression.

thomas chuckled, “it’s a good thing you found someone with some sense, god knows you need it,” Thomas teased.

"I'm sure she's no more devilish than I am. Now come on," he said, taking her hand. "We oughta get back before they think we're doing something inappropriate."

Maggie smiled and let him lead her back downstairs. “Speaking of,” She said. “My brothers haven’t given you any flack yet, have they?”

Nico snorted. "They haven't even spoken a word to me. As usual." He chewed on the inside of his cheek. "Though they don't approve, I'm sure."

“Does that bother you? Not having their approval?” It bothered her more that they weren’t speaking to him. How could they ever get to know him if they didn’t have conversations? It was rude to ignore him.

Nico just shrugged. "If you haven't noticed, I tend to rub people the wrong way quite a bit," he said, leading her down the stairs. There was something off about his voice, like he was uncertain of himself. "They'll never approve, and I'm fine with that."

The way he said it, Maggie didn’t like it. She bit her lip, but didn’t say anything more. The rest of the conversation would have to wait till later. She stepped into the dining room and raised her eyebrows. “What’s this about best man?”

"Tommy's agreed to be mine," Charles said with a smile. His gaze slid over to Nico and turned to neutral, almost studying him. He seemed slightly unsure, then glanced toward Elizabeth. She just raised her eyebrows at him, confused. Charles just shook his head and looked back at Nico.
"Say, since you're with Maggie now, it'd only be fitting to have you as a groomsman - if you'd like, that is."

Nico's eyes widened. He had never felt (or looked) more surprised in his life. "Me?" he asked, pointing to himself. "You're joking, right?"

Maggie was surprised as well, but she smiled at her brother gratefully. He was trying. “I think that’s a great idea,” she said, squeezing Nico’s hand.

"Of course I'm not joking. Unless you say no, then I'm just joking," Charles said. He smiled slightly, moreso at his sister.
