"Maybe we should all just rest," Charles suggested, his guilt rising up to make his throat feel thick and his chest heavy.

"Yeah, hard," Nico snorted, his nail beds now raw. "Doubt any of us will be able to sleep, but I guess we ought to try."

Maggie ran a hand over her brother’s hair in an attempt to console him, giving Nico and Charles a stricken look. “Sleep sounds like a good plan. Come on, let’s get you in bed.”

Awe what a good sister ❤️)

Thomas didn’t think he could sleep, as he hadn’t had much success in that department since leaving America. He didn’t see why that would change now. He nodded though, “fine,” he said, offering his sister a small smile

Maggie smiles back and stood, putting her hand under his arm to help him up. “Why don’t I get you some tea and you can sleep.” She didn’t wait for a response, already heading off to make it for him.

Thomas didn’t see how caffeine would help him sleep but he didn’t argue. “I’ll be in the other room,” he said, already walking in that direction, shoulders slumped. Nothing would help until he knew peggy was safe and on her way to him.

Charles sighed softly and followed his brother to the room. "Tommy," he began, once they were there, but he wasn't sure where to go. "I'm sorry," he finished, though it felt quite lame because there really was more to say.

Thomas stood at the window, back to his brother. “It’s not your fault Charles,” Thomas said quietly, though it was halfhearted. He wanted to forgive Charles but if peggy didn’t come back to him, could he ever really put it behind him?

Maggie set to work making a quick cup of tea for Thomas, careful to make one that should put him to sleep. He was gone and she deflated. She hadn't wanted to feed his worry, but she was afraid for her parents.

awesome!!)

Every day that Thomas did not received word from Peggy, he became more anxious to return to America. Another 4 or 5 days had passed by, Thomas couldn't be sure as he'd lost track. Thomas kept to himself, rarely leaving the room; he'd often just sit by the window and watch for ships. When he'd become certain that Peggy was not among the passengers, he'd go back to bed and pretend to sleep.

“London truly is miserable,” Peggy commented to Elizabeth as they marched through the rains up to the hotel she’d had the address of for Thomas from his letter. She was soaked and in terrible clothing for it, just a short sleeved dress and some broken boots. She went up the stairs to the room the hotel manager had told her and waited a moment, staring at the door. It felt like forever. It’s been the most time they’d been separated since they’d even met. She swallowed through and gently rapped on the door, “Thomas?”

Thomas must have dosed off for a few moments, almost thinking he was dreaming her voice, but he scent was unmistakable. Thomas scrambled off the bed and threw the door open, revealing his wife standing on the other side. His eyes immediately filled with tears, "P...Peggy," he got out before wrapping her in his arms.
