Charles didn’t reply, he just clenched his jaw and turned to go back into his room with Ainslie. “Apparently they’re chasing ghosts,” he informed her as he climbed back into bed. He tried to relax from the conversation, but he couldn’t seem to stop fidgeting with the sheets.

Ainslie was nearly asleep, eyes popping open when Charles laid back down and looking at him concerned. She could feel the tension rising off him. She moved closer and put her hand over his, “Hey, what’s wrong? You want to go chase the ghosts to?”

“No, I just...” his fingers twisted with hers and he sighed, closing his eyes for a moment. “Sometimes it feels like they think I’m an idiot. Which is fair, I suppose. This whole mess started because I tried to marry a mad woman. But it still stings whenever I’m reminded of it.” He looked over at her and then smiled gently. “I’m sorry, I must’ve woken you up. It’s nothing to worry about now, let’s just go to sleep.”

“An idiot because of me?” She asked quietly and then frowned a little, “Charles—“ she swallowed, “I don’t want to be a reason you and your family have problems”

“No,” Charles said, shaking his head. “It’s not you, love. At all.”

“You promise?” She asked and her eyes started to grow heavy

“I promise,” he said quietly and kissed the top of her head. “Get some sleep.”

"You should sleep too, to heal your arm," Ainslie murmured as she finally closed her eyes. It didn't take too much longer before she was fast asleep beside him.

Nico sat on the edge of one of the beds, pulling out some papers that had been shoved carefully under the pillow; charcoal sketches of various animals and insects. "They were quarantined here," Nico said quietly. "My parents and sisters, when they were sick. That must be how Mikhal was able to avoid becoming ill." He set the drawings down on one of the bedside tables. "They died here."

Thomas' face softened as he looked around the room, "Nico..." he started, but really didn't know what to say. If his parents and siblings all died so horribly, he'd never want to return to the place it happened.

Nico was quiet for a moment, then stood up suddenly, an idea forming. "I need to talk to them," he announced. "Like, what do they call those things, a seance? One of those."

"Uh....is that really such a good idea?" he asked, not feeling too comfortable with the idea.

"They're still lingering here, and I want to know why," Nico replied. He let out a heavy breath. "I just... I feel like they have something to tell me."

Maggie stood in the doorway. She had been afraid to go in, but with the way Nico was talking... "Nico, are you sure that's a good, not-at-all crazy idea?"

"I... I don't..." Nico sat down again. "You were right. You were all right. We shouldn't have come here." He buried his face in his hands, groaning softly. "I miss them so much."
