Thomas crept along the hall after Maggie and Charlies, his eyes darting around nervously. When they came to the study, he carefully pushed the door open and went inside after making sure it was clear.

Maggie smiled at her brother, Thomas seemed so nervous about this all. But she was confident it would all be fine. “Calm down, brother, we’re not doing anything wrong.”

He could not fathom how Maggie could be so calm, "You saw how quickly her demeanour changed earlier? That's why I'm uneasy," he said. He looked around the study, deciding to go straight for the desk drawers

Charles started snooping through some of the books on the shelves.

"Is there anything else you want me to do tonight Miss Peggy?' Ralph asked.

Maggie pulled a random book off a shelf and started to rifle through it. "See if you can find anything personal," she told her brothers. "There's bound to be something. For all we know they could be murderers, or ghosts."

Thomas laughed, "ghosts? Don't be ridiculous Maggie," he said as he looked through the desk drawers, "no such thing"

"Oh what, you don't believe in ghosts? Even so, the murderers could be true." Charles chuckled and thumbed through some pages.

Maggie grinned at Thomas. "How can you know there's no such thing? Have you ever seen a ghost?" She was just messing with him, she had stopped believing in ghosts years ago.

Thomas shut the top drawer and groaned dramatically, "I wish I was an only child" he joked

“Don’t be silly, you’d be far more bothered as an only child,” she put the book back and grabbed a different one, which gave her pause. “Okay well this is weird,” she said, her tone getting more serious. “Look at the title.”

[im going to bed lol I don’t have a title for the book so feel free to make something up if you’ve got any ideas]

"No, you three may go about your business or, I suggest you rest. I know we have all the windows painted black, so we should have any problems with the humans opening curtains during daylight, but I would ask that you please try to accommodate to their sleeping schedule just this one ni--" Peggy gave pause. Someone was in the study. No...all three of them. She could hear it. She set her glass down, "Stay here." she told her servants and then in an instant, took the form of a bat, her dress and jewels dropping to the ground before she flew up, through small opening that went through the house and then up  into the study herself, hanging from a rail on the ceiling. She stayed quiet, staring down at the three, curious what they  were snooping at.

Thomas walked over and took the book from her, frowning as he read over the title. It didn’t seem to be in English but the one word that stood out was vampire. He shrugged and gave it back to Maggie, “probably just a story, like Dracula,” he said, not overtly concerned. “First ghosts, now vampires? Are you sure you didn’t hit your head in the car?” He teased.

“Humans out of bed,” Clara shook her head. “Don’t they have manners? They should be in bed resting and not snooping in Miss Peggy’s personal affairs.”

Maggie rolled her eyes at him. “Oh shut up, I’m just saying it’s a little odd. I mean come on, you really don’t think there’s something strange going on here? A mysterious rich stranger is insisting on us staying here for days, feeding us, and you think there’s no ulterior motive?” She put the book back down.
