Clara waited, watching buses pass. Eventually, Charles emerged. “How is it!” She asked, looking at his arm.

"As fine as a broken arm can be, I suppose," he shrugged. "Come on, you had better go back to Peggy's."

“I’d like to act shocked but...after what he did, I’m not sure if Nico will ever be the same,” Peggy said and wrapped her arms around herself, “He was a good man. Temper is all”

“I do hope he comes back,” Mateline lamented. She had been very interested in him, but she couldn’t force him to stay. The man was as stubborn and grumpy as they came.

"And you?" Clara asked. She knew Charles didn't want to come, but she wondered where he would go off to. "Back to your parents, or are you headed elsewhere?"

"I'll figure it out." Charles shrugged and began walking.

Spending some time alone had done wonders for clearing his head. And, as much as he craved isolation, he knew now that leaving the coven was a stupid idea. He was starting to head back when something hit him on the back of the head. The small glass bauble shattered and he was doused with something akin to acid; holy water. He scrambled away, seething in pain as his flesh burned, as he tried to find the source of the attack. All too fast, however, a wooden stake was plunged deep into his chest. The figure holding it leaned into him, whispering in his ear. "Back to hell where you belong, demon."

Marina took a step back as the vampire collapsed, unmoving. The kill had been easier than she thought- he'd been distracted, clearly. Of course she had no time to consider why, as there were other demons in need of slaying in the area.

But first, she had to grab herself a hunting trophy...

Peggy looked at Maggie (not Mateline) and smiled gently, "I'm sure Nico will return, as least for some kind of paycheck, if not other things," she told her before going over to the record player and flipping the record, starting the second side.

Clara watched as Charles wandered off. Once he was out of her line of sight, she sighed and set off back towards Peggy’s apartment. Eventually, she arrived, and she walked in.

Peggy looked at the door, tense as someone came in, but then let herself relax as she saw Clara. She frowned though and furrowed her brow, "Clara, dear, where is Charles?"

Maggie looked up hopefully, staring behind Clara. Charles had to be there. He wouldn’t leave without saying goodbye, would he?

There were two possibilities that made sense in Thomas' mind. one was that Charles had finally decided to go off on his own and he wasn't coming back. The second, was that something had happened to his brother. "He better be okay Clara," Thomas said, searching her face for the answer.

"He's fine," Clara said. "Well, an arm injury, but nothing that won't heal. Charles opted not to come back here with me."

Thomas nodded, relieved but sad, "I...I suppose that is for the best," he said quietly. Charles could have a life, free of all the drama and danger that seemed to follow them.
