Thomas reached out his hands and gently held her cheeks, "Peggy, I don't see this as a curse. I see this as a gift; I get to spend eternity with you," he said with a smile

Peggy looked at him and put her hands up over his, “What if...” she paused and then avoided his eyes, “Would it improve the idea of working at the hat shop...if I was with you?” She asked quietly.

Maggie rolled her eyes and latched on to his arm, looping hers through. “Don’t start acting like my dad and brothers, it’s just creepy. I thought we were gonna raise some hell.” She tugged him towards an unassuming building and went along the back way to rap on the door.

A frown quickly replaced his smile as he thought about her suggestion, "I appreciate you trying to find a compromise here, I really do, and it would probably be more tolerable with you alongside me, but I just....I can't go back. I won't. I won't be guilted into this by my parents," Thomas said stubbornly.

"I'm fine to raise some hell so long as you don't get hurt, cause then your family will be hurting me," Nico reminded her, tapping his foot as they waited for whoever was behind the door to answer.

A slit in the door revealed watchful eyes. “Password?” Maggie hoped the password hadn’t changed in the last few months. “Crawdad?” She suggested. After a few harrowing seconds the door opened and Maggie sauntered in. “I wouldn’t get hurt,” she told Nico confidently.

"I highly, highly doubt that," Nico replied, walking just behind her. "So is this one of those speakeasy places you've mentioned before?"

“Indeed. One even my brothers haven’t heard about.” She grinned triumphantly and sidled up to the bar. “I’d like to open a tab,” she told the bartender, gesturing for Nico to order something. “Put it under Juniper.”

"I can pay for my own drinks you know," he told her, but decided to order himself a straight rye anyway. "So was this your usual haunting ground?"

She nodded and sipped her own drink. "I guess you could say that. There's not much else to do around here."

Peggy nodded at him, quiet and choosing to let it go for now. She ran her fingers up and down his arms slowly and then leaned forward and kissed him wholly. She began to unbutton his shirt while she did so.

"It's definitely the kind of town you want to escape from," Nico nodded in agreement, turning away from the bar to survey their surroundings. "So, spot anyone familiar? Any old friends? Flames? Enemies?"

She gave him an unimpressed look. “I don’t have enemies,” she told him. “I’m not you. But,” she started pointing to a few men and one girl in the room. “A few old flames.”

"The broad too, eh?" Nico asked her, a little surprised. "And I'm sure you have enemies. Everyone does, whether they realize it or not." He sipped his drink again, enjoying that sweet, sweet burning sensation.

Maggie buried her face in her drink, unsure if he was judging her or not. “I’m a modern woman,” she told him defensively. “I was curious.” She took another, longer look around the room. “Enemies aren’t my style. People don’t just not like me.”
