“I’m Mrs. Juniper,” Peggy said and crouched down so she was at the girl’s eye level, “But Peggy is just fine. This is my husband Thomas,” she said then motioned to Maggie, “And his sister Maggie. The wolf is our friend as well.” She said and then looked to Thomas for a moment before asking a question she didn’t want the answer to, “Can you tell me—did the man who hurt you, say anything that didn’t make sense?”

The little girl looked down, balling her hands up into her skirt. "He said I was helping him. Helping... throw off his... his trail, I think. Something about him being smelly?" she looked up again, lip quivering. "Did I do something bad?"

“No, no, you did nothing wrong sweet heart,” Peggy told her and then carefully put her hand down to push the girl’s hair from her neck, “Where did he bite you?” She asked carefully.

She timidly held up her wrist, showing off the angry bite mark, already surrounded by a dark purple bruise. "It hurt a lot..."

Maggie’s stomach churned at the sight of the girl’s bite. He hadn’t been gentle with her. “That monster,” she hissed. “How could he do this?”

"He wants us distracted," Peggy said as she took the child's arm and frowned. She then looked at the girl, "What is your name? Can you take us to your home?"

"My- my name is Ruth," she said softly, still avoiding looking at any of them, but she nodded firmly. "I live nearby. Do you... do you want to see my home, or the orphanage?"

<**cause we need a reason for her to stay with them :p**>

(I thought we would be go back to the home and Mikhal had killed her parents, but that's fine XD)

"You're--an orphan?" Peggy asked and a little gleam came to her eyes. She looked at the lost, lonely little girl who now was cursed with the thirst and immortality and came to a decision, "No-no," she said quietly, "Who's' your mama? Were you adopted? We should take you there."

"The nuns said mama was very sick and had to go away," Ruth said quietly. She looked at Peggy. "Do you know where she went?"

Peggy sighed and nodded, "Yes, Ruth, I--I do know." she said quietly and then stood up, putting her hand out to Ruth, "Your mama is gone now. But if you come with me, I will keep you safe from that bad man. I promise. And I will never ever leave. It's not safe for you back with the other children. You would hurt them like that bad man hurt you."

Ruth's lip quivered. "But, but I wouldn't! I wouldn't hurt anyone!" But she remembered how she had tried to attack them, and how badly she wanted to eat them. "I'm so hungry," she said finally.

"We should get her back to the inn," Peggy said and looked at at the others, pulling the curtain tighter around her, "I think there was some blood left in our jar. One of you should stop though and get some more." She then looked at the Wolf, sitting in the corner of the room and raised an eyebrow. "Does she know us?"

“I think she does?” Maggie offered up. “Can’t be sure though, but she’s not attacked us yet.”

“Alright. Let’s get back to Nico and Charles,” Peggy said and took Ruth’s hand and started to head out of the hideous little shack that smelled like blood. She glanced at Thomas and gave him a small frown before continuing out.

The wolf watched them leaving and stood up, slowly padding behind Peggy.

Maggie followed after her, all too eager to get back to Nico. “So Peggy, Nico...he’s okay?”
