But Bovril actually figured it out before he met Deryn. (If you can call it figuring out..) It wasn't because he could smell her... he was able to take Eddie Malone's recorded conversation and sift through it to find the important bits. Which is why a loris is so useful.

I think it would be better if Aleks didn't come to know Deryn's secret. It would cause him so much trouble anyway.
It's kind off sad that Deryn's only a commoner..

It might be nice of Dr. Barlow to figure it out because then we could have ANOTHER awkward part with her going like "Hey Dylan?""Yeah?"" Äre you a girl""OMG HOW DID U NO?!?!""Never mind that.... didn't you have your time of the month already?!" O.O
the...um..."time of the month" thing was discussed on the blog!(:
we decided it would be kinda awkward....

Well, Waxesnostalgic, what I took from that part was that Bovril was interpretting the sarcasm in Volger's tone. He noted that Volger used a different tone when mentioning 'Mr. Sharp'. And at one point someone (Alek, maybe?) speculates that the lorises were able to pick up on things before they actually hatched. That's what I believe, and that may be part of the reason it is attached to both Deryn and Alek (besides Barlow's "Unless...") so much; they both cared for it as an egg, coupled with them both being around it after hatching.

(I think that maybe in Goliath they'll start exhibiting problem-solving skills or something. There must be more to them than parroting words.)

Bovril solves at least one problem: it says "Express" a couple of times long before Alek figures out that he can use the train to take down the cannon.

I think it's attached to Deryn because Deryn is attached to Alek.

I think Alek should be next to find out. I have the feeling Dr. Barlow knew Deryn's secret from very early on in the first book - she is shrewd enough to figure it out but cunning enough to leave it be and see what happens (Deryn is her favorite assistant after all). Anybody who spends much time with Deryn would begin to suspect something, much as Volger did in Behemoth, except for Alek and Newkirk who seem to take things at face value and leave it at that.
