Being a Hero Has Its Price
« on: January 22, 2011, 01:19:14 PM »

Jessica saved loads of people - but got stuck in the blue time.
And in Specials, Tally started the mind rain but ended up psycho with a dead boyfriend.
What do you think? Is Scott trying to say something?

I don't think he's trying to say anything, I think that's a basic life scenario for you.  Take Abe Lincoln, freeing the slaves got him killed.  It's just a fact that you have to make sacrifices to help people.  Oh, and you should say that their are spoilers here.  (It kind of spoiled Midnighters for me)

Oh yes also, Tally still had David at least.... I honestly don't think he was here first choice though. Or did she just think she loved Zane... :-\

I think it's making a point. Life has twists and turns and your decision influence them.

On the forum rules, it says with finished series, you assume there's spoilers.

Sorry. I just figure that since Midnighters are pretty old, most people have read them. They're a very underappreciated Westerfeld series.

It's weird... a lot of people here have never read them.

To reorient this, it seems that usually in Scott's book, the main character has to make a sacrifice for the greater good. And since Leviathan is his current series, could this theme be continued?
(This is a sort of between the board topic, but I started with the Midnighters idea, so I'm gonna keep it here. Whatever.)
Maybe, like I was talking about in the thread 'THEY WILL LIVE!!!!' someone will lose an arm.  :-\

Well it's not just with Scott, since the genre of Drama and Heroics started even in Shakespearian time the hero always ended up losing something in the end. Another modern example is the Hunger Games series and the ending of Mockingjay.
