Positive rant:
So it's just sinking in that in my lifetime, humans will most likely be living on Mars. I, random human #12 billion (more or less), will be alive to see humanity reach out beyond this planet we've called home for thousands of years - billions if you count our most distant ancestors, the first living beings on Earth - and make our home on a planet millions of miles away. I could even see the first human born on another planet, or at the very least the first animal. We're there, guys. Humans are on the brink of what will probably become one of our greatest breakthroughs and it's amazing and I can't wait to be part of that 8 billion strong or so group of humans that unite to witness it.

I always wanted to be the first person born on Mars when I was little. It didn't work out.

So my school gave us assigned seats for the Veterans' Day assembly (made us sit with our homerooms) and I get that it's to make sure everyone shows up but I'm pissed about it because like. I have a friend whose brother is a Marine so Veterans' Day hits her hard and this stupid seating chart stopped me from being there for my friend and screw that?? Like usually "I wanna sit with my friends" is a kinda petty reason to protest a seating chart but when it's a really emotional experience for people let them sit with their friends and get emotional support

So I was hanging out with my best friend last night, and she told me that her little sister has head lice, and she had caught some, too. They treated their house and have been treating her and her sister's head ever since they found them, which is fine, but when I told her I was worried about getting them, she said, "Don't worry; I wouldn't have told you if I wasn't sure I was in the clear."
No. No no no no no. She definitely should have told me, regardless of whether she was sure she was clear or not. Because head lice is a serious problem for a salon. That's what my school is - it's a fully functioning salon. It's not just classroom learning and practicing on mannequins. If she was infested and didn't tell me - if she exposed me to it and didn't tell me - I wouldn't think to check myself for lice. So I wouldn't think twice about going to school with it, which would expose my classmates, the other students, and their guests. Heck, I thought twice about going to school today just out of caution. I was half tempted to skip and start treating my head. I'm still tempted now to get an educator to check me, and then treat my head regardless, and ask them to treat the building. Plus, why am I having to deal with fleas and lice all of the time now? I hate bugs. I hate creepy crawly things that stick to you and infest your hair and your pets. Why does my friend think it's okay to take her sister to get a haircut not tell the stylist about the lice?
And guess what happened when I asked my educator to check my head. She found lice!!!!!

e-e I also hate bugs and getting head lice is just about my worst nightmare so I can't imagine what that must be like. I hope you can get rid of them and that they didn't infect your clients/classmates :-\

I had to leave early to treat it, but luckily I caught it early enough that getting rid of them shouldn't be a huge problem. And the educators checked my entire class; my friend said she doesn't think anyone else has it.

Positive(ish?) Rant.

We listened to the story of a boy and girl in church today. Both under ten. I can't remember their names but the boy's name starts with M and the girls name starts with R. They're both from the Philippines.
Their mother accepted money from a foreign man to let people violate and abuse M, R and three of their cousins on webcam. Repeatedly. For years. It's just one example of the cyber sex trafficking industry that countless children have been forced into. Fortunately, the Australian government intercepted the videos and images sent to the pedophile, arrested him, gave the originating address to the International Justice Mission and they, together with the Philippine police force raided the house, arrested the mother and freed the children. Not only are the children free now, but they're happy. M loves superman, taking care of plants and animals, and his sister. They're in the care of a relative who had nothing to do with abuse.
Anyway. All that was possible thanks to an organization called the International Justice Mission. Besides sounding like a comic book, their goal is to eradicate slavery around the world. Good thing too, cause over 40,000,000 people are currently enslaved around the world. In some cases [largely in India] a whole family can be enslaved to anything from a brick factory to a brothel over a loan as small as 25$. So speaking of which, if any of you guys would be willing to pass along what these guys do over social media or anything I'd really appreciate it. A 25$ donation a month can make the world of difference.

This isn't really a rant, but it's too political for me to put it on another thread.

Today is the massacre of the Sandy Hook shooting, in which 5 years ago, 20 six-to-seven year old children were murdered along with six staff members in their elementary school by a gunman who'd previously killed his mother. This event sickens me to this day, and it sickens me more when people try to tell me that now is not the time to discuss gun laws. I understand people's discomfort due to the subjects and their worries that with better gun laws they won't be able to go hunting or have self defense. But in all honesty, I feel like with all the shootings that have been happening in America it's more than just a mental health issue. I will never vouch for the complete removal and banning of guns from the country, but I do believe that it should not be as easy as it is now to get ahold of firearms in America - Like, if it really is purely a mental health issue like people claim it is, why not have individuals take tests and perform more thorough background checks to ensure that the individual isn't dangerous. And perhaps there should be a limit on how many guns one can have??
The Vegas shooter had 47 guns in his hotel room. Fourty-Seven. That's ten guns, times four, plus seven more. That's a lot of guns!
People then try to bring up how cars kill people, too (like in some argument like 'But car accidents kill people, too - Where's the call for banning cars?'), but here's the thing - Car accidents are caused by impaired or distracted drivers. That's why they're called accidents. There are exceptions, but a majority of car-related deaths are not caused on purpose. Shootings are done on purpose. They're not accidents. And then, also, people with mental disorders that could cause deaths from car crashes are given restricted licenses rather than full licenses, and are sometimes not allowed a license at all. Also, it is mandatory to inform the individuals you're working with for this license whether or not you have one of these problems. Look, something that really could be a 'mental health issue' is being treated like one! On the other hand, background checks for buying guns are not as thorough, it is not mandatory to tell the seller about dangerous issues you have, and even if you do have one of these illnesses it will not impair your ability to buy the gun too greatly.
Essentially, I have a lot of feelings about gun control. I feel like if guns were harder to get ahold of, those 20 first graders and 6 staff members would still be alive today. And people may not agree with me. That's fine. But I genuinely do worry regularly about life here - Especially when I hear about kids at my school joking about school shootings or threatening to bring guns to school or even just talking about having guns and shooting things for fun. It's a serious issue that needs to be addressed. I have cousins who are just starting preschool. They're so happy and young and wonderful, and I worry so much about them all the time. I don't want anything bad happening to them. I don't want anything bad happening to my family, or my friends - And yes, if that makes me a 'liberal feminist sjw' then I suppose I am one. But I don't want more Oaklands, or Columbines, or University of Texases, or Virginia Techs, or Sandy Hooks. Is that really too much to ask?

An incredibly minor rant inspired by a post I saw on Facebook: "Hot Cocoa Pudding Shots! The boozy, adult way to down your favorite drink!"
Let me enjoy my Sober Hot Cocoa in peace not everything an adult does has to involve alcohol or drugs
The pudding sounds good, though. Let's keep that.

I'm really ticked off because due to my co-workers not doing their job corrrectly, we all have to have a mandatory staff meeting on the day I usually work, which would be fine if the meeting wasn't scheduled first thing in the morning and my shift is in the evening. I probably have to stay there all day because it's half an hour drive from my house to work.

So some guys who sit next to me in a class were making fun of another student with a service dog (“it’s just an excuse to take a pet to school”) and then of the sensitivity training teachers got (you know, the sensitivity training I helped give) and the actions they took accordingly, specifically asking kids for pronouns. So I called them out on it and told them it wasn’t funny, they said they thought it was, I told them it was disrespectful and they said “so?” Actual human beings told me to my face that it didn’t matter to them if they were disrespecting me and then laughed about it and then they tried to ask me stuff about gender only to continue to make fun of the concept of nonbinary-ness to my face and then acted surprised when I got snappy with them and what the hell my dudes?? Do you have an ounce of empathy?? Do you understand how social interactions work?? Do you fail to grasp that your actions have consequences and that others have feelings?? I think I hung in there pretty damn well. Y’all if I wasn’t in a good mood before you said that I probably would have cried loudly and conspicously and either that would be more embarassing for you than it was for me or, more likely, your utter lack of capacity to understand human emotion would be shown very clearly to the whole class and the teacher, and if I was in an even worse mood I may have actually hit you so short version: f—k off

I think I have found the most undeniable example of female privilege: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5289091/Expelled-student-says-woman-sexually-assaulted-HIM.html

Tl;dr - A woman brutally rapes an unconscious, intoxicated man, and her victim is expelled after an investigation, not her.

I have no words to describe how unbelievably angry I am about this. I, as a woman, already had the power to smear a man's reputation, destroy his career, and ruin his social life, just on my word. Now, apparently I can sexually assault him, and reasonably expect him to be punished. What is our society coming to? When is all of this insanity going to end?
