Why'd you choose for the Uglies series to continue in Japan?

I studied Japanese in college, and still read a lot of manga, so I thought I could pull it off. And Japan always seems to be a few years in the future compared with the rest of the world. It seemed like a good place to set the Mind-Rain.

But sometimes it doesn't really seem like we're trying to "land" at all.

Um, no. I think we'll have to take some really hard hits before we get it. Like, $10/gallon gas or something.
in portugal and in some parts of europe it already is. :-\
Ouch.
The sad thing is the technology for alternative energy is already there--or least the beginnings of it.
But because of the way economics and oil are entwined...

Does anyone else (besides yourself and your publishers and such) know the plot of your books before they are actually published?

Well, there's me, S&S, and Justine for sure. (We read each other our books as we write.) And I sometimes send things to Holly Black for her notes (we all call her the PLOT DOCTOR) but that's about it.

True, and in a lot of those places, people really do watch their carbon footprints, compared to here.

Okay, I'm out of here!

Whats your view on Harry potter?

Didn't read all of them. Not sure why, but it didn't grab me. But she's obviously doing something right. She created a lot of new readers, after all.

GOODBYE EVERYONE! Thanks for coming out and asking such cool questions.

Perhaps as more people become horrified by what is happening in the Gulf of Mexico, they may decide to spend money on alternative technologies.  It's truly mind blowing what may happen here.
