Finally got around to reading this, and I have to say... I wasn't too impressed.
First of all, Leo was my absolute favorite character in the first book. Now we see him once, and he gets sucked in to yet another aggravating love triangle. Riordan has set up at least three. THREE, PEOPLE!!! Can he write nothing else???
The characters had really cool, dramatic, tragic backstories. This was fun... until it happened again, and again, and again. When you never get a POV switch AWAY from a tortured soul, it makes for slow reading. Hearing Percy in third person was weird too.
Roman camp < Camp Half Blood.
And is it just me, or is Annabeth SOOO going to bite the dust? It just seems likely. I mean, come on. Percy's harping about her all the time. Everyone will be so sick of it that they won't mind. Fastest way to add drama? Kill the love interest.
I also have to say, did anyone else find the whole Percy planning out his whole future thing odd? First, he's been dating her for TWO MONTHS. Second, sixteen year old guys don't think about marriage, family, or much of anything past dinner. Come on.
