Son of Neptune
« on: November 17, 2011, 05:45:56 PM »

Finally got around to reading this, and I have to say... I wasn't too impressed.

First of all, Leo was my absolute favorite character in the first book. Now we see him once, and he gets sucked in to yet another aggravating love triangle. Riordan has set up at least three. THREE, PEOPLE!!! Can he write nothing else???

The characters had really cool, dramatic, tragic backstories. This was fun... until it happened again, and again, and again. When you never get a POV switch AWAY from a tortured soul, it makes for slow reading. Hearing Percy in third person was weird too.

Roman camp < Camp Half Blood.

And is it just me, or is Annabeth SOOO going to bite the dust? It just seems likely. I mean, come on. Percy's harping about her all the time. Everyone will be so sick of it that they won't mind. Fastest way to add drama? Kill the love interest.
I also have to say, did anyone else find the whole Percy planning out his whole future thing odd? First, he's been dating her for TWO MONTHS. Second, sixteen year old guys don't think about marriage, family, or much of anything past dinner. Come on.

I haven't finished it yet... but it is weird. It's like... idk. It's not as good as I thought it'd be. I'm not saying it was bad... just not the best.

Frank was just so funny and awkward it made up for not seeing into Percy's head, and in my opinion I liked the Son of Neptune better than the Lost Hero, because, face it, Percy's funnier than Jason

I dont know why (I guess I just haven't read PJ in a while) but Annabeth reminds me of...Astrid (in Gone) and Im not to fond of her.....so killing Annabeth off....Im ok with it

Percabeth is cool and all, I mean we wanted them together for like 6 books, but did anyone else find it annoying when she called Percy her boyfriend all the time? Or when he was larking on and on and on about Annabeth and how much he loves/misses her? When she arrives in the Dragon Boat he's all like 'OMG! Annabeth is here, meet the love of my life who I'm going to have children with and live happily ever after!' it just really bugged me. Also, I thought Renya was hilarious when she said that she and Jason could have developed feelings since they were praetors and implied that she and Percy should get together.

Totally was the worst book of Rick's. I hated Hazel and Frank(Wanted them to die) and Jason was pretty bad and didn't have much personality :P Piper was ok and Leo was awesome. But one of my main probs is, these new books are not funny and the characters are bla. I mean when I read Percy there was a good 1 liner in every chapter and I fell on the floor giggling, but with the other 2, not at all :-\

Don't hate the lines around your mouth, because you know they ARE smile lines, after all. Anyway, the way I see it, you can just never again smile and hope they don't get any deeper, or you can just keep smiling and then people won't notice those lines because they'll be looking at your pretty smile
