Shay and Tally - Awkward Dynamic

This is kinda awkward, but did anyone else get the feeling that there's kind of a romantic subtext between these two?
Tally spends a lot of time in the beginning of Uglies daydreaming about what Shay would look like pretty, saying she wishes Shay would stay so "people can look in your eyes and be blown away" or something. Also, when Shay leaves, she says "I'm going to lose you" - more romance novel-y than casual friend-y.
Shay gets uber pissed whenever Tally gets a boyfriend, or puts a guy before her.
Zane makes Tally bubbly. Hatred of TALLY keeps Shay clear headed.
Shay chases Tally down specifically to brainwash her and make her Special so they can be together again.
When Shay asks Tally if her locket is from someone special, she never assumes it's from a 'he'.
I mean, clearly Tally likes guys. But I feel like there's definitely something between them, especially on Shay's side. What do you guys think?

I kind of want to ask Scott about it.
I mean, clearly Tally leans more towards guys. But does Shay ever really have a relationship? She crushes on David, but I think she was more in love with what he represented - the Smoke, freedom, etc - than him. And they never technically dated.
