You have it backwards. Steampunk is Victorian with a modern/ futuristic twist.

See, what I think would be totally awesome would be to have a society that takes place now with futuristic technology, twentieth century fashion/morals/chivalry/all the good stuff that comes with that time period, and a bit of the magic-awesomeness thrown in just for fun. That way you get the best of tech and the best of fashion and you don't have to worry about the whole "rights movement" or lack of medical knowledge!

Sounds a bit like steampunk to me.

Oh, and btw. Steampunk in not limited to a time period simply the feel of the Victorian/Edwardian Era. There are plenty of Steampunk books and movies that take place in the future.

Yes, but saying that they're modern with a Victorian feel doesn't do it justice. And usually the ones set in the future had a split from reality around the Victorian/ Edwardian Era where technology began to advance along a different path while society stayed the same. Or they split beforehand and the society simply stopped advancing past the Victorian/ Edwardian Era. Either way.

As cool as steampunk times seem, I would not like living in it. The effect is vastly different from reading about steampunk times and actually living through it. To be honest, I doubt its much fun, but more hardship. When you are actually in that era, it's nothing spectacular, since its a commodity. Besides, there's the interwebs in this modern world.

I totally kill to live for just a week during the roaring twenties; flappers, the sound of jazz emanating from every nook and cranny, fast cars, fast living, did I mention flappers?

Though it would totally suck to live in Germany during 1920s....

guns are fun... really...really fun and so are bows and cross bows.
we use bows with fishing reels on them to spear flounder.

FlippingBarking regulations here bans Airsoft, paintball, and BB guns. The only legit thing here is nerf. Oh well, in a country as small as mine, it's safer to just ban these sorts of thing, lest a riot breaks out. (My country is only 64km from tip to tip XD)

The only legit guns that inflict pain are heavily modified air compression nerf guns, deals similar damage as paintball, except you pump the air yourself, instead of having compressed air tanks like in airsoft or paintball...

Nope. anything except nerf-type guns are illegal. Then again, u could make ur own combustion weapons by spraying some aerosol into a can and lighting a spark, but these are the things that gets you arrested here.
