He thinks everything through but sometimes he also does stupid things. Like he thinks it through and then it all goes out the window.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by that. Some things are just out of his control, even if Alek tries to fight it. When he analysis something he tends to go with that no matter what. I think what appears to be idiotic is just his moral compass telling him something is right, he sticks with his beliefs and he goes with that regardless of the consequences and that can make him seem a bit reckless.
