I'm sure the special circumstances would've somehow gotten someone else in Tally's position after a while. Like when Smoke started expanding and giving out pills.. But it would've fallen sooner, since they would've stayed in the same place.. unless they decided otherwise.

He's rational, Tally isn't a nice person as a special, she tries to bring down the Smoke, something she had been fighting to save, and Zane tries to help her become a better person and rewire her superior special brain

He thinks that's just because of the Special operation. And they did almost kiss that one time so I mean... obviously he thought there was something still going on between them.
