The fan one. He used to be bet friends with Deryn and even loved her and he was always comforting her after her dad died. But then she started dating Newkirk, so when Fitzy's mom and sister were killed in a car accident that he believes was his fault, Deryn didn't help him at all like he'd helped her. So he got mad and then she got mad cause she thought he was just jealous of her and Newkirk, and now they're enemies. The end!

Dang. That back story made me feel bad for him. I've usually just thought of them as like comedic rivals or something, like England and France.

That was the whole point of it. Brams reviewers were hating him so she gave him a really depressing backstory.

Fitzy's like the anti-Alek in terms of having important parents.

Alek thinks his lineage gives him responsibilities.

Fitzroy thinks his lineage gives him rights.

And all that got him was a nasty case of the Chuck Cunningham disease.  ;D

It's because Mr. Newkirk is just the kind of guy you wanna give a cookie to.

Hoooold it. If he had been in love with Deryn, wouldn't he recognize 'Dylan'? Or at least be suspicious?
I thought through the whole series until the end that Newkirk was going to be like Neville and end up with some hidden bravery and/or awesomeness and, like, destroy Goliath or something... or save someone's life... I still think he's awesome though, kind of comic relief sometimes, there was that time Deryn got to save him life... oh, I know what he did! He saved Deryn at the beginning of Goliath! ;D
