Podcast-tastic!

About a week ago, Justine and I went to Penguin HQ to record an interview with each other. Thanks to modern editing techniques, we sound halfway clever and like we’d thought about what we were going to say. (Thanks, Ganda!)

We talk about Justine’s childhood in Australia, living between two continents, and how all that relates to Magic or Madness, The Last Days, and Peeps.

Sam Enthoven also reads from his new book, The Black Tattoo.

Here’s Penguin’s podcast page.

And here’s a direct link to the MP3.

I’ll be hosting the MP3 here, once I snag a copy. But for the moment, listen and enjoy.

(I’ll be back with my next installment about character names soon.)

  1. YAY! I’m the first (if I type fast enough)! Except I couldn’t listen, so I really have nothing to say about this… except that I want silver-plated Big Brother-manufactured nail clippers. And that makes no sense. Goodbye. Darn the ‘access denied’…

  2. Well I listened to it! It was pretty awesome! I loved listening to it…It is interesting how diffrent some of the words in MAGIC OR MADNESS are.

  3. Oh, yes. And it is so unfair that I could not listen. I will have to go to your house, Topaz, and hack onto your computer to hear it. Maybe I can use tactics learned in Uglies/Pretties/Specials… and I also have to say: “Big Brother is Watching You”(and also manufacturing silver-plated nail clippers).

  4. Download Quicktime, ya’lls, maybe that’ll help.

It was so cool to hear Scott and Justine’s voices. I’ve been reading their words for months now, and it never occurred to me to think about what they sound like. It was awesome!! I liked the jokes and the discussion of language. And now I can properly pronounce “bitumen” and “Larbalestier.”

  5. can we do uglies next???
    thanks….
OH! And in physics, I went into a whole lecture about metal when you heat it up, courtesy of Pretties…

  6. Downloading Quicktime will not help me, my computer informed me that my access was ‘denied’. I hate my computer and its crazy rules.

  7. Thanks for the shout out, Scott! But if you sound clever, it’s because you ARE clever, not because of any editing. I MAY have made you sound a little louder, though.

  8. I am sooo like Rebecca. It is weird to have read the words of an author whose book’s you read and then to hear them SAY it changes everything. I loved your guy’s voices! And I love saying autumn–Fall sounds weird. I like Justine’s version.

    -Topaz
    autumn…autumn…autumn…autumn…

  9. Oh, Topaz, I like how you’ve never read Magic or Madness yet still posted a comment on Justine’s blog. I actually laughed (mostly because that day you said that you would never read them for absolutely no reason at all).

  10. I’m sorry that I’m being annoying and posting three times in a row, but I tried downloading Quicktime and then listening but I was still denied. The message said that the content has been ‘deemed inappropriate’. Whoa. My computer is now insulting people.

  11. Well, Quicktime is the extent of my computer genius (haha). Maybe download iTunes and get the podcast that way?

I like “autumn” better than fall. But we usians do use the word autumn, just not as frequently as we do fall. I’ve heard of girls being named “Autumn” too, and I always thought it was a beautiful name. It’s stored away in my “names for future characters or children” list. 😛

  12. Autumn is a pretty word (or name!)

I AM going to read MAGIC OR MADNESS just as soon as I can get my hands on it. The evil lybrary system won’t let me order it!

Hey, Scott! I put you on my Author Tracker! 🙂

    -Topaz

  13. Hey. I’m very excited to read the names for the Uglies Trilogy. I’m addicted to that trilogy. Just finished re-reading all of the books. I wish it wasn’t just a trilogy! I wish there was more…. oops! I’m a bit of topic, sorry. Anyways, can I ask who the model is that you used on Pretties for Zane, or is that too personal?

  14. That guy on the cover of Pretties scares me and everytime I look at my bookshelf his nose and eye are watching me. Sorry, but I’m just weird that way. And Topaz needs to learn how to spell library, she workd there after all.

  15. Whoa. I was looking for Magic’s Child on Amazon and look at this:

Customers who bought items like this also bought
Magic or Madness by Justine Larbalestier
Specials (Uglies Trilogy, Book 3) by Rodrigo Corral
Pretties (Uglies Trilogy, Book 2) by Scott Westerfeld
Midnighters #3: Blue Noon (Midnighters) by Scott Westerfeld
Uglies (Uglies Trilogy, Book 1) by Rodrigo Corral

    Huh? Rodrigo Corral?

  16. …Yeah, Willow, and according to the Last Day’s myspace, TLD is a male, 19 years old and lives in NEW YORK. How can a book have a gender–0r an age? Wouldn’t it be less then a year old? Hmmm…What IS the secret identity of TLD?

  17. She watched me, too, but the weird guy was scarier. After reading Specials I have perfected my Special Tally look from the cover. Topaz insists that the cover is of Shay. How strange.

  18. well i was surprised to hear your voice..
    but somewhat…expecting..
    hm…
ur voice sounded like the way i imagined it..
you can’t sound STUPID unless u talk gibberish, scott. XD
    which u didn’t…

  19. My computer is hideously ancient, so I couldn’t listen. On an extraordinarily random note, I went to Morgan’s Midnighters fan site, and saw two excellent comics that have not been posted here (Melissa and Rex fight a darkling and Jonathan imitates the other midnighters).
