Dark-Thirty

The tour, she has begun!

Hey, did you guys know they have a six AM now? No one ever tells me anything. This is what it looks like:

Kind of spooky.

In case you can’t tell, I’m not a morning person. (This reason, and no other, is why I became a writer.) But while this tour was being scheduled, I read all these articles about how flights that are early in the day are delayed much less often. So rather than deal with that, many early flights were locked in.

So. Much. Early.

But after a post-flight nap, Justine and I are at a hotel in Schaumburg, Illinois, about to head off toward a banquet at the Great Lakes Booksellers Association. They’re feeding the authors at a special early dinner, so that we don’t even have to eat during the banquet.

Our job is but to charm.

Okay, I’ll try to blog every day or so, just to give you guys a sense of what book tours are like from the author’s perspective. This is my first real multi-city tour, so I’m looking forward to learning all the tricks.

Also, a few copies of Extras have been leaking out into the wild. That’s cool with me, but please no spoilers on this blog yet!

I’ll be setting up a spoiler zone this weekend.

Ciao for now!

  4. Hey, there! Welcome to our neck of the woods! (I’m in Barrington and I live in Palatine, which probably means nothing to you, but I’m within spitting distance of Schaumburg… trust me.) I LOVE your books! I LOVE Justine’s books, too–should you care to pass that along. :)I can’t wait to read Extras! Hope you enjoy Illinois!

  6. A six AM??? NO WAY! Actually, I think that’s about the time I go to sleep lol. I’d become a writer too (I have a few half-finished novels in the works) but I don’t have the patience to put hours of work into them. But maybe someday I’ll finish one and get it published, then I wouldn’t have to get up in the morning to fix cars lol. Anyway, have fun on tour. You know, I think I heard a rumour that they even have a FIVE AM in some places. Would you believe it?

  7. FIVE AM! ARE YOU SERIOUS?! i woke up at exactly 11:22 this morning. i had spigetti for breakfast! but serioiusly. theres no such thing as five am. i hope. *gulp*
*theres no such thing. theres no such thing*

    -Lizzy-wa OUT! 😛

  8. I vow not to post spoilers since the first few chapters showed up at my house today.
    I kind of freaked out.
    But only a little. >.>
I’m so excited about this tour! I am counting the days until the 11th!

  9. Hmm… I guess it makes sense that early flights are less likely to be delayed, because there’s less chance of [the airport] being behind schedule.

Sounds like a ton of fun though, despite the early monrings 🙂

Ahh, less than a week to go!!!!

  10. i have to get up at six a.m. every morning. well, six thirty. that is why a 7:53 first period bell sucks.

and for sometime between monday and when i get my copy of extras, i may have to unplug my modem so i don’t look anywhere on the internet and read spoilers.

  11. Wow, you’re so real! I understand the work upping about the last HP book leaking because that was HUGE, but then there was all this spaztic drama about a mini Eclipse book of Stephenie Meyer’s, which IMO are getting worse as they go along, being shipped early.

*sigh* I wish everyone could be, or even seem, as mellow as you. I’m so excited for my copy!

  12. I’m not a morning person either. In fact, I’m about the most opposite you can get from a morning person. I WILL hurt you, no joke, if you do anything to anger me before 10:00.
Mornings always suck, seeing as I have to get up at 6:45 every morning to be at school on time.
    Whoop-de-freaking-doo.
Why can’t everything start later? I’d much rather go to school later in the afternoon than early in the morning.
    I thrive off of darkness.
    *creepy sound effects*
Haha, not really. But I do prefer nighttime.

I can’t wait until Extras! I wish I could get to a bookstore to see if it’s one of the ones that are selling copies early, but sadly, I’ll have to wait. Unless I can someone convince my mom to take me tomorrow…

  13. Ah, six AM. 6 AM haunts me, every single morning. Well, anyway, welcome to Illinois (isn’t it boring?). I’m so excited to see you on the second!
    Happy almost Extras day!

  14. i want a leaky one NOW! I think I like the idea of obsessive Extras bloging. Have a good tour, even though you won’t be coming to New England. 🙁

  15. omg 6 AM that must be horrible … i had to do that once… fell right back to sleep once in the car to go to airport… only like 3 days and some hours excitement is building… then i get to Mequon and hav security take me away!!!! well hopefully not right away 🙂

  16. Ugh, six am? I have to catch my bus at six thirty…I feel your pain!

Morning is a bad time, definitly. Try to talk to me before eight you will die. Yea, I think nine is a nice time to start…anything.

  17. im a total night owl. can stay up til like 3 before i get tired. its wierd. in the morning at school, whenever im kinda tired, im just silent and yawning. but when im so tired i feel like im gonna die, i just cant stop talking. its wierd. im just like blablablablabla! blablablablablabla! yepyepyep!

    -Lizzy-wa OUT! 😛

  19. i have to wake up a 7:15 every morning, but i didnt know that there was anything less than 6:30 am. wow! wait, that means there are hmm…, a lot of hours in a day!

  20. WHO WANTS TO READ SOMETHING CREEPY? (IF YOU HAVENT READ MIDNIGHTERS, THIS WON’T MAKE SENCE) every night, at midnight, the light flicker. that is the only time the lights ever flicker in my house. maybe it is a sign that the secret hour is comming to columbus, georgia.

  21. really Amy-la?! wow!

wanna no somethin else creepy? i sleep with my door and window open every night. (my room gets really hot) and every night at midnight…THE DOOR SLAMS SHUT! AND THEN I BOLT UPRITE! WIDE AWAKE!
