One more day of the tour tomorrow. Yay, my bed!
A few random notes . . .
On the way down to Seattle we saw a bunch of amazing mountains. They seemed to be too close to Seattle to be the Rockies, which we also saw. I’m too sleepy to look up what they were, but this is what they looked like from the plane:
Back in CA, we met this awesome trio of girls who’ve started a YA review site called 3evilcousins.blogspot.com!
And finally, the Joseph Beth Bookstore has a great big sign up for my appearance tomorrow. I mean, it’s really big. Too bad I can’t get it into my luggage, because I bet they would totally let me take it home.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it!
Monday, Oct 15

Reminder: There will be more appearances after these, mostly in the NYC area (as far away as Fairfield, CT). Watch this space for details!
cool!
so sad. i feel left out now…
very fool! i want that sign!
-Lizzy-wa OUT! π
That sign is amazing!! I really hope you do a couple in NYC, because I live in Long Island, and I ber I could convince my mom to let me go to one in the city, hopefully anyway. Have fun tommorow!!!
scott, finish the tour already. im tired of hearing about all these people with stuff from your books. it gets old very quick.
very true. it is SOMEWHAT boring. unless it talks about me of course. but really, i thot you said you would post stuff about the alternate version of EXTRAS. you could give us like the first three chapters of Hiro-chan’s POV. pleeeeeaaaaasssseee?!
-Lizzy-wa OUT! π
What mountains do we even have here in Seattle? I don’t pay attention to them. Mt. St. Helens… Mt. Everest… oh jeez. What the heck is the other one that you always see from the plane? Oh whatever. They’re the Cascades. According to google.
I know. I live here and don’t know what mountains he have. This is a sad, sad day in Washington State education.
Rainier! That is the one you always see from the plane! And on the way into the city on a nice day…
Okay, I’ll stop talking about mountains now…
hi
i should be in bed but what ever im gong right now(yawn)
in houston texas it is right now 10:28
Steph-la out ^_^
I haven’t commented in a while (but I still check back here every day :]!)
I like hearing about your touring adventures. It always makes you feel good hearing about how you’ve affected so many people.
Blahh, I’ve finally obtained Extras (it’s taken so long!) I was putting it off so I could like… buy living materials (food, water, sweaters, etc). But I was in Barnes and Noble with my friend and I couldn’t resist reading some of it. She had to go home, so I left without buying it. But after I walked her to the train, I went back and read some more.
And then I developed a dependency for it and had to buy it.
Any chance of coming around the Philly area? I ask this all of the time, but one of these days you’re going to answer yes.
that is a pretty nice mountain. i failed US geography though, so i cannot tell you which one it is.
also a pretty nice sign.
does this count as obsessive extras blogging? will there be more obsessive extras blogging? please?
i’m going retro now—i started rereading uglies yesterday, i think i’ll go through the whole…not trilogy anymore i guess. “series” maybe. or quartet. quartet is a nice word. i hear tamora pierce likes those. hey, you know what would sound really nice? the midnighters quartet. just rolls off the tongue. think about it.
Scott, that’s Mount Ranier.
Good looking, ain’t it? Kind of like the mascot of Seattle.
You made me homesick for Seattle with this post.
Come back soon.
Productivity is down 42% plus I also miss your conversation.
Congratulations on mad success!
E
I think what Scott posts is interesting, it makes me want a chance to meet him. All I have to do is convince my mom to drive my sisters and me to NYC. I live in New York and I have never been to NYC. It’s pathetic.
Emily: I saw Mt. Ranier from the road a lot in Seattle, and it seemed ot have less snow on it than the one above. But maybe you’re right.
And yes, bored ones: The tour is almost over, and after one more tour post I’ll be blogging “EXTRAS: The Missing Chapters from Hiro’s Point of View”!
Very interesting —
I don’t know if I am bored as so much as being JEALOUS of seeing everyone at the book signing.
π
I’ve been trying to talk hubby into the idea of a six hour drive up to KY. (hey, we could camp out in our tent somewhere and save the hotel money!) But no, he isn’t into it. He’s in a patrol car 12 hours a day. Driving so far on his day off after 3 straight 12 hour days is a no-go. Waaah!
Hope you have lots of fun, Scott. And why in the world wouldn’t you come down to Atlanta or Birmingham? Mobile or Montgomery? Nashville? Memphis? We do read here down in the lower states. :o)
Wanda
Seattle, hm.
That mountain could be either Mt. Rainier, or Mt. St Helens. π They’re both near Seattle.
I live in Tacoma, which is near Seattle. So the picture you took of the mountain could be either one of the mountains I said. π

*tear* never near DC…..well im happy for those of you who did get to see Scott
that sign is BEAST i wud pur it in my room π
oooh…..outtake chapters! woo! that’ll be fawesome….i’m the kind of person who likes reading that kind of stuff. we shall see inside hiro’s selfish little head.
CHASING. DARKLING. WEREWOLVES. AT MIDNIGHT. FOURTH MIDNIGHTERS.
wow, that review site is pretty fawesome. yes, i am supremely bored and in school, in case you couldn’t guess. but i gotta go….i’m supposed to be writing a poem now.
i’d just like to reiterate, for the enrichment of non-sequel writing authors who may be back to reading these comments now that they are nearly back from tour, the Nine Kinds of Awesome a Darkling-Werewolf including Fourth Midnighters book would have
kind of awesome #1Γ’β¬βwould be a fourth midnighters book
awesome #2Γ’β¬βwould be a scott westerfeld werewolf book
awesome #3Γ’β¬βwould probably have awesome werewolf explinations
awesome #4Γ’β¬βwould be written by scott westerfeld
awesome #5Γ’β¬βwould be cool with full moon/midnight/dark moon mythos
awesome #6Γ’β¬βwould introduce new characters
awesome #7Γ’β¬βcould have dess in it, kicking @$$ and doing math.
awesome #8Γ’β¬βcould be a chance to erase the pain of midnighters ending!!!!!
awesome #9Γ’β¬βdude, DARKLING. WEREWOLVES.
you’ve already used the word werewolf in a book once. it is only a short step. yeah, i just noticed that when i was rereading uglies that they mentioned werewolves when tally was crashing the party in new pretty town. so…author should write a book about werewolves.
Holy awesomeness, Batman! You linked to us! I… I feel special…
(With a lowercase s)
Thank you!!!
yes, it’s generally a good rule to avoid the population when you feel Special with the capital S. you’ll loose nanos on them or slit your wrists.
as everyone can obviously tell, i am very productive on that poem i’m writing.
I got an A on my social studies test. that made me feel lowercase special too.
That sign looks awesome. And the mountain is sooo pretty. I’m jealous!
I like the book signing. No one were i live is very cool like that, so its kind of intresting to see so many differnt people. In my city, all the girls look exactly the same. Same with the guys, execpt their all immature.
So seeing differnt people for once in my life?
I like it.
aww come to ohio pleasseee =]]
can’t wait for the Hiro’s POV chapters. sounds awesome.
Congrats Scott! Uglies is on the New York Times Bestseller list for week 15 at number 4 and Specials for week 3!
wow, that’s crazy. uglies came out so long ago and it’s still on? hardcore man, hardcore. my friend bought the whole uglies trilogy this weekend, now i must just force her to read them.
and what? you people dissing Pretties or something?
Cool sign!
Still waiting patiently for the NYC appearances.
Awesome picture, Scott!
Woah, Deja vu…
Anyway! Very cool. Sounds like you’re having a ton of fun…but I’m betting you’re missing the norm! I know I would.
Later!
i love the picture of the mountain it’s gorgeous!! & that is an awesome gigantic sign!
i wish i lived in Seattle with all the pretty mountains and stuff it must be beautiful!
OMG, scott-la, that will be awsome, i can see it now, The Missing Chapters Of Hiros Point Of View! Man you are so, awsome, yay, awsome, i wish i could be somewere else, right now it is pouring! I had to run across the feild at my school to get home and it was sprinkling but still, yay, im want to read it, o and Midnighters is so cool! I am about 1/3 the way into the book and its awsome, but somethmes i get confused with the point of views, u no wat i mean, right, ok well got to do hw, fun, not! I hope it gets sunnier here!
Yay! extras from extras. that just sounds cool.
ugh. Scott, do you have something against humidity? because we do have air conditioning here is Florida. I promise. and it would be REALLY nice if you decided to come here. really fawesome. Not even joking.
i mean, skip NYC. you live there anyways. come see new and interesting places. in Florida we have
~beaches (that normally are over-crowded and smell, or contain old hairy men in orange speedos)
~about 82000 species of mosquito.
~heat
~an extremely depressing lack of punks
~terrible schools
~HUMIDITY
~no mountains what so ever (i love mountains)
see? don’t you want to hop on a plane to Florida right now? you should. i have presented my argument very well
π
extras from hiro’s point of view!?!?!?! so0o0o0o0o fawesome!
P.S. if you click on my name, you will see a picture of me in crash bracelets!
i have a friend of mine reading uglies. another one is reading peeps, and another one already read peeps and is reading the last days
I TRIED to get my friend to read Midnighters after I read it and LOVED it. I mean — she has read Uglies, Pretties, and Specials, but —It is so dumb of her.
i am so disappointed i had to work then babysit the night you came to edmunds…otherwise i would have been there π .
today i was listening to the radio and they were talking about these ankle bracelets that Chanel was starting to make, they are to resemble those alcohol monitering bracelets that so many celebrities are sporting these days. the ones by Chanel will be like a coin purse for your ankle. it reminded me of the crims who requistioned (sp?) interface cuffs after tally and zane ended up with them in Specials. anyway i don’t know why anyone would want people to think they have to wear an alcholic bracelet.
p.s. i believe that mountain is Mt. Rainier or, “the mountain” as it’s known in Seattle it’s in the cascade range.
well i am done know
i force all my friends to read things. well really they like it. i’m thier own human library. i got two (three maybe?) people to read midnighters, and i’m working on a fourth, plus two people to read the uglies series and two more to read peeps and the last days. and also two to read so yesterday.
i can tell you really love florida, ShellTheShark. you make it sound so much fun. like when i talk about the suburbs.
sweet sign! and mountain. pretty kick. good luck on ur last day!
wow, that’s pretty odd. alcohol monitoring bracelets of solidarity. made more sense with tally and zane because their friends were doing it so zally wouldn’t stick out.
=]
no comment. just want to show i read it. lol
Sweet!1 Ahhh that is totally cool!!

I use to never read, i no hard to believe right. Let me tell u my story:
I use to never read, i no hard to believe right. Let me tell u my story:
Over the summer, i read this really boring book. I had to. We have summer reading books and when we go back we have a quiz on it and they always pick boring books, like history books. The school year started and we went to the library during Literature class. So, my friend, Unmolly-wa, made me check out uglies. I was like, boring, u no i hate reading, but she forced me, literlly, she wouldnt leave my side till i checked it out. We sat down and i started reading eith only one thought in my head, “…………”, ok so im not much of thinker! So i started with the first chapter and it caught my attention. Over a period of a week i read it all and fell in love with
David. Over a period of 4 days i read the Pretties and fell in love with
OMG that was so long it made it to boxes awsome!
HEY, it cut off my story, ill finish it:
Over a period of 4 days i read the Pretties and fell in love with Zane, i read Specials in one day and Extras in 1 week and i didnt fall out of love with Zane but i thought frizz was an awesome little manga-head, i guess wat im trying to say was if it wasnt for scott-la i would never read. Thank you, i love all the uglies books (Extras included) and i love the midnighters on the first book and it rocks!
that is amazing how much one book can make someone actually like reading after a *really* long time of hating it. but i guess it just comes with teh job description. so i went apple picking the other day..and we made these absolutely amazing apple crisps i thinks theyre called. i jsut thought i’d throw that out there. but all the apple trees were wiped out. it was rather depressing..
and pretty kick reviews 3-Evil-Cousins-wa.
THAT is the SAME way I felt.
Before reading Scott’s books — I just didn’t read for fun.
Thank you Scott.
hey
Scott, you got to go to Colorado some day!
i am in shock…this happened over 10 hours ago BUT I’M STILL NUMB.
well this week is Teen Reading Week at our school, and to kick it off we had extended homeroom (30 min instead of 10) for silent reading. one of my friends is in the same homeroom, and she owns a copy of uglies but she hasn’t read it yet. she brought uglies today, and here was the dialogue between us:
*she pulls out the best book on earth*
me: “OMG I CAN’T BELIEVE IT YOU’RE FINALLY READING IT!!!” (since i’ve been bugging her about it for like a year)
her: “well i’ve TRIED reading it a few times but it’s so BORING. i only brought THIS (motions to uglies) because i couldn’t find my clique book.”
me: “this is SOOOOO much better than the clique books, how could you not love it?”
her: “have you even READ the clique books? they’re so good!”
me: “umm…no—but i GUARANTEE that you’ll like this better!”
***fifteen minutes into homeroom***
her: “ugh, this is so BORING. and WEIRD. i don’t get it at ALL. i wish i had my clique book!”
me: *doing everything i can not to scream at her* *sigh* “you REALLY need to be exposed to some good literature.”
i am so disappointed in her… π π π
