Because one cover is never enough, behold the United Kingdom cover for Leviathan!

Unlike the US cover, this image is based on one of the black and white illustrations in the book. Keith added color and a few extra elements.

For the sake of comparison, here’s the previously revealed US cover:

No official word yet as to whether the Australian and French covers will be one of these, or a different image entirely!

I like ALL the covers so far. What do you guys think?

  3. While the American cover is still AMAZING, I must say that the UK version is a tad bit more awesome. It just looks like it shows more of what the book might be about. Sad day, sad day:(
    But I’m still extremely excited for the book, whatever the cover:D

  4. Top 5, get in there! Yes, the UK cover is awesome, we Brits finally have something over the Americans 😀 But why hasn’t Bubbly to Bogus been released over here yet, it’s out EVERYWHERE else, and I really want to find out about the rusty times, it’s always interested me. Anybody have any idea when it will be released in Britain? Can’t wait for Leviathan! 🙂

  5. I absolutely love both covers, but the sky in the back of the UK cover is absolutely amazing! So violently gorgeous.

    I wish I could get an early copy of this book! I’m jumping out of my skin waiting for it.

    I read “skinned” that you did the interview with Ms. Wasserman for and it was very cool, reminded me of your books with all the cool tech. I’m glad it’s going to be a trilogy 😀

  9. i think the american one has a bit of a Manga look to it. It seems more…personal. The british one is more vibrant looking, the red showing an aggressive aspect. But, both good. *smiles*

    &&Scott-la, I don’t know if you saw the conversation about Zane we were all having during the last comments of your last post…..

    are any of our guesses right? or totally off? we’re just wondering about Zane… and your comment about Zane during the IMterview

    he could’ve forced something else… but then it wouldn’t have been what happened, but what he forced to happen because he didn’t want Tally to lose Zane.

    I write… not as brilliant as Scott, haha… but I love writing… and some of my own favourite characters, I’ve found them dead. And I’ve tried to bring them back… but I don’t want to force anything, what happens happens… people die, people lose other people, dreams, hopes… and I write fantasy… and there’s magic! but sometimes someone dies, if you are me with my luck it’s always your favourite… but it’s not in vain, it made Tally’s story that much more icy… Zane’s death was not in vain… it first set Tally on the right path, then ultimately gave her freedom, the freedom she has always wanted, needed.

    Or maybe I’m totally off the mark… haha, no idea. But this is my guess, my interpretation, remarks, etc… Feel free Scott-la to correct me.

  17. Both covers are vastly doos! I love them both!!! But really, I don’t care what the cover looks like because I’ll be too busy readint he book to look at it. Though the artwork is amazing!!!! 😀 😀 😀

  18. AH. Simply amazing. Excuse my language but that cover is so kickass it’s crazy! I have a question for anybody to answer if they can! A lot of times covers are different for different countries, as we see here. Why?

    THIS IS LONG BUT SORTA IMPORTANT!!

    K, I’m posting from school, so my name isn’t linked. Okay, so I have several things to mention:
    1: Kristina-la, THAT IS CREEPY. I can’t belive someone would “do it” with a guy just cuz his name is Edward… that is really freaky! See why we just don’t like you-know-what-book? It does things. Bad things. We’re not bad. Just sane. And I will point out that I myself used to be a 100% Twilight fan. Until the crazed hype started. And I was like “ooookaaaay, this is weird.”. THAT BOOK WAS EVERYWHERE!!! And it still is. So, when it kept appearing everywhere, it started getting annoying. Really annoying. It’s just the effect it has on people that makes my hate it. Like my slogan- I don’t hate the book nessisarily- just the hype. Twilight isn’t half bad. In fact, it’s fairly good, for being created from a simple dream! It’s the hype that drives me crazy. See, when there was a Harry Potter hype, people weren’t crazed and insane!! They just LOOOOOVED the series, and I love it myself. Twilight is WAY different!! It makes people do things…. bad things…. and thanks for stikin up for me, Kristina-la!
    2: No, we have not found our 2 missing cats. Speaking of them, I want to add some interesting details… well, I didn’t notice this until Gabe pointed it out to me on the bus. Three of us- Anthony, Gabe, and myself, went to 5DBR07 that day on my party, that time when all the CREEPY stuff happend, if you recall that. Well, come to think of it, Tibbit, the Russian Blue and first to dissapear, has a personality JUST LIKE GABE’S. And Rousseou, the 2nd to dissapear, has a personality JUST LIKE ANTHONY’S. And Cinnamon- you guessed it- has a personality JUST LIKE MINE. And I just realized it! It’s true! Tibbit is lazy, like Gabe, Rousseou is all bi and crazy, like Anthony, and Cinnamon is anti-social, like me. Hm…. coincidence, I think NOT!!! MY BACKYARD IS HAUNTED BY AN EVIL DEMON THAT PREYS ON INNOCENT CATS TO GET REVENGE ON US FOR TRESSPASSING ON HIS TERRITORY!!!!! AAAAHHHHHH!!!!! Seriously!! It’s weird! It’s like the Twilight Zone… dodododododododo….. it’s funny though, my mom makes fun of it, and when Cinnamon wants to go out in the evening, which we don’t let him anymore because both cats dissapeard when they were out at night… and on a Friday… and she’s all like “Achupegato’s going to get you!” Get it, you know Achupecabera, the Mexican creature that sucks the blood of goats? Yeah, so instead of that, it’s Achupe-gato! Hehe. Or as my mom says, har-dee-har-har… yeah…

But it just doesn’t feel right… I think something else happend.   27. I like the UK cover a lot more. Usually I’m a blue person instead of a red person, but the UK cover and colours makes the scene seem more war time-y. It also gives the cover a setting, versus the US cover where the characters just look like they’re floating in space; which can work in some cases, but the setting has a stronger impact to go with the type of book Leviathan is.

    I agree with you, Ally-wa: the UK cover is bright, bold, and provides the cover with a setting to create a strong impact.

    Perhaps I shall buy both versions, hmm?

    I kinda like the UK one better, but hey, im predudice for explosive busy covers, with red =] but I love the other one too.

    I just went on Keith Thompson’s website, and it is so amazing! I can see why Scott chose him to be the artist for this book! Though some of the pictures Keith posted on his site is a little creepy, I really think his art will make Leviathan even better. I don’t know which cover is better, though I’ll try-
    US cover- big robot ready to pounce on kid with fancy clothes, awesome shoes, and flowing cape

    UK cover- boy and girl facing off enemy with only a little knife in girls hand with awesome background.

    So hard to choose! I’m just so glad there are going to be about fifty, colored, full pages from Keith! So thrilling!

  40. I just read an article about how British and US covers differ because of our different ideals of aesthetics or “art.”

    I like both covers, but would be pulled (if I weren’t already a fan and just browsing for something to read) toward the British version. I’m from the US, but lived in England for a while. However, I don’t see where that would make the difference.

    I think the US cover looks cold, dirty, industrial, and mechanical, which seems to fit the book. The British cover looks more like WWII propaganda posters (which is could also be fitting). I almost expect to see Churchill peaking around the robot and a saying such as, “Careless talk costs lives,” printed across the bottom.

    Both covers seem to work and were probably designed with their very specific markets in mind. At least the robots look similar, especially if one is based on a drawing from the book. Well done, design team.

  49. I agree with Dahlia-wa. The UK cover looks amazing, but it doesn’t really pop out as a book cover. The US cover has those metallic borders and that feeling of not knowing what setting the blue-clothed boy (probably the protagonist) is. Eh, I like both, so who cares?

  50. I hope Australia gets the UK cover! They’re both great, but the top one makes it look a lot more…action-y. It’s more like a movie poster than a book cover, which is a good thing.
    I still love both though. Will Australia get a different cover? We didn’t for Uglies, but I think we did for Midnighters.
