Leviathan Out in Oz

So I recently got the word that Leviathan is officially in stores in Australia. It launched on October 13 there, a week later than the US.

Apologies to my Aussie fans for having to wait. But now you have it! (Oi, oi, oi.)

The tour is still going great. No more fires, anyway. Had a wonderful event at Changing Hands in Arizona last night and at the 86th St. B&N here in Manhattan. It’ll be nice to sleep in my own bed tonight.

I’ll be in New Jersey tomorrow with Robin Wasserman. Come check us out at Books & Greetings in Northvale.

Friday, October 16 4:00PM

Location: 271 Livingston Street

Oh, and thanks to everyone who’s bought a copy or told a friend to buy one. Because of your enthusiasm, Leviathan has debuted at #5 on the New York Times Hardcover Children’s list. W00t!

  1. The weather in Manhattan was appalling today. But I really enjoyed the panel. Took the bus from NJ…NYC is closer than tomorrow’s NJ event, plus I have no way of getting there even though I wanted to see Ms. Wasserman too.

Congratulations on Leviathan! I love the art in it so much. Reminds me of the few drawings Brett Helquist did in “A Series of Unfortunate Events”. Your talk was very cool. My brother with me enjoyed it even though he has yet to read any of the books.

  2. I also really liked the panel- everyone was so interesting, though it wasn’t really about dystopian novels so much. Whether or not it is the new wave to replace the vampire obession remains to be seen.
I was so excited to get my signed copy of Leviathan! And Scott, congrats on making the best-seller list, although I think you should try to get above the Pooh book, because it doesn’t belong on the same list as Leviathan! 🙂

  3. Congratz Scott-la! But I agree with Leah a Pooh book doesnt belong on the same book list as LEVIATHAN. I really hope that I can make it to one of your signings. bye!

  4. woots! to LEVIATHAN!

hehehe i love how its CHILDREN”S best sellers and one of the books’ descriptions is “a novel in verse about five teenagers who become prostitutes” hehehe so child-oriented

i mean every single book on that list is 12+ or 14+ except the elephant one hehe

    -Lizzy-wa OUT! 💡

  5. I know, I thought about that too Lizzy-wa.
    Anyway, CONGRATS SCOTT-SAMA!
I love how Hunger Games and Catching Fire are right next to each other on there. And I didn’t know Fire was out yet!

Anyway, enough loving of other authors not as amazing as you. Good job!

  6. Congratulations!
    Tricks is pretty amazing though.
    I don’t get why it’s on a childrens list.
But Ellen Hopkinns is an amazing author 🙂
    As are you
    ♥

  7. i agree! Why, why did u skip the WHOLE midwest? Well, aren’t u going to pensylvania or something? i guess that’s sort of midwest-ish… still, i live a whole state away and there’s no way on earth ( or anywhere else, now that i think about it ) that i’ll get to see u! 🙁

also, pooh? i mean, really. that doesn’t even belong in the same PAGE as leviathan, much less above it on the best seller’s list. Also, “ages 9-12”? Yeah, ’cause i totally was reading POOH when i was 12. So funny about the prostitutes, though. Can’t u just c the headline? “Evidence shows that kids today enjoy reading about stuffed animals… and prostitution.” that’ll b the day!
okay, here’s how i think the list should look:

    LEVIATHAN
The Hunger Games ( loved that book! ) (:
    Catching Fire
Fire ( didn’t know this was out yet. just in time for my birthday! Nine kinds of exstatic! 😀 )
    The Magician’s Elephant
Tricks ( sorry, but this just grosses me out. rightly, too )
    Pooh book
L.A. Candy ( in my opinion, this book doesn’t even BELONG on the list )

Anyways, congratulations, Scot-la. U deserve it!

  8. I am patiently waiting to see you tomorrow, Scott. I still need to get the book… I may have to just get it tomorrow. And I mean come on people, Pooh is the most amazing bear in the world. I for one am a huge fan.

  9. Oops…commented on the wrong post (Linit Is Not Your Friend). The bit at the end doesn’t make sense after the other post so I’m scooting it over here. Sorry!

Scott, THANK YOU for coming to Phoenix! Your presence made my favorite bookstore (Chaning Hands) even more awesome.

When the tour is over, you should post your diorama here on the westerblog. Because of that picture, the sledge illustration in the book will forever make me grin from ear to ear.

Thank you, also, for writing some of my favorite books, for inventing Darkings, and for using the word “beasties” repeatedly (it’s my new favorite word). And for being one of Those Really Awesome Authors, in general.

    STEAMPUNK RULES!

    ~Mary

OH — To everyone else: THIS IS OUR CUE! We need to push Leviathan all the way up to number 1! Spread the word!!

  10. Ping to Sarah-la,
Who doesn’t love Pooh, but that book doesn’t belong on the same book list as LEVIATHAN. And it definitely shouldn’t be above it!

  11. Hi!
Guess what:I just got a shot for the swine flu and right after they did it I fainted! Like, completely unconscious! So anyway, when I woke up, I saw people in doctor’s clothes all around me and my first thought was: OH MY GOSH! DOCTOR CABLE MADE ME PRETTY! 🙂

  12. Hey uhm the whole uglies series is in the top ten ‘most read’ books at my school. I mean who doesn’t love your books 😀

  13. WOOHOO!
2 of my favorite books (The Hunger Games and Catching Fire) and 1 of my soon to be favorite books are on the best seller’s list!!!!! 😀
(Haven’t been to books a million in what seems like months! I’ve been too busy.) Anyway Congrats Scott-la on a good review! 😀

  14. Scott-la, what happened? Your Appearances/News section no longer says you’re going to be in Danbury tomorrow… is it not going to happen anymore?

  15. congrats! so cool!
by the way i had spagbol today(they messed up the schedule!)
    it was actually pretty good!
ive been trying to spread the uglies word about but they said it is to creepy!
IT IS NOT CREEPY! if people stopped thinking about ideas and just read the story they wouldn’t miss out on some of the best books!
    seriously! it makes me angry!

  16. CONGRATS!!!

i really wish i could have made it to one of your presentations. but 1) i got school (grrr)
and 2) you didn’t come anywhere NEAR my state.

    but still, i don’t want to be a downer… so…

    again, CONGRATS!!!!

  17. Why was the Danbury, CT event canceled?! I’ve been looking forward to it ever since the schedule was released and even went out and bought books to be signed and to give away on my blog. I even planned fan art and tried to get friends to come with me. You’re one of my favorite authors… but I can’t get a ride to any of the other signings. :,,(

  18. Ping to Boss/Spagbol,
Well if you had to eat spagbol 3x a day for a long time, you’d get sick of it, but I really wanna try it! lol! how is Uglies creepy, really?
    Ping to Scott-la,
I just started Leviathan today and its really good. I would say now you’re my all time favorite author, but you already are! I love the way you write, all you’re books are FANTASTIC! oh and CONGRATS again!
    Bye everyone!

  19. Congrats!!! That’s awesome!
I sent my grandpa in New York to the signing, so I’m crossing my fingers that it worked out!

  20. I just finished reading Leviathan, and I have to say; bravo! The story was wonderful, the characters brilliant, and the steampunk–words fail me. You have integrated steampunk with a new genre, fleshpunk. Biopunk? Beastiepunk?

Anyways, the only complain I have was that it ended all too soon! Your books always seem to do that to me, but like all good storytellers, you leave me wanting more and more.

I am eagerly awaiting your next book in this series, and I wish you all the luck and inspiration in writing it.

  21. Ping to Spagbol,
HOW IS UGLIES CREEPY?! I mean, sure, it’s got that whole “society that we trust is doing horrible things to us” thing going on, but isn’t that what makes it such an icy read? (oops, I just used Uglies slang without even realizing it!)

I told my dad how good Leviathan was and he said he wanted to read it. I thought he was joking, but when I came home from school, he was halfway through it! He says you’re a great writer, Scott-la. 🙂

  22. Leviathan is sooooooo awesome. I forgot it was coming out and than my mom said “Doesn”t Leviathan come out today?” I ran out of my apartment to barnes and nobles and got it. I ran to the YA section and all the parents with their toddlers looked at me probally thinking “is that what my child will become?” Well, who cares. I did the same thing with Catching Fire!!!! I was reading it with my friend and she said that she liked Deryn a lot better than Alek. I don’t know I used to like Deryn alot but now I like Alek. I don”t even like the Leviathan as much as the walkers anymore. maybe I should be a clanker?

  23. I am going to try my hardest to bribe my father into taking me to Madison. I don’t know what I’m going to say to him but I’m going to try.

  24. Ping to Alekrulez!!!!!,
I personally like Deryn’s character. I am definitely a Darwinist! But I would love to ride in a walker! 😀

I really want to read Hunger Games! I love sci-fi, only whenever I tell my friends that, they stare and say, “aliens? ray guns?” It’s so annoying how everyone thinks the only thing sci-fi is about is aliens!

Has anyone seen the movie Spirited Away? Or Castle in the Sky? The director, Hayao Miyazaki, is my favorite movie director.

  25. Ping to David&Zaneluver,
I don’t know what Hunger Games is about, only a lot of people say its really good sci-fi. 😀
When are you going to update your blog? I want to read more from you! 😀

  26. I’m glad to see the Hunger Games and Catching Fire up there with Leviathan also. 😀 Excellent books as well. :D:D:D:D:D

  27. Ping to Team Yoshi Banana,
I love Spirited Away. Miyazaki is a genius, and you should really read Hunger Games. It’s good.

  28. haha thats great!
and I love Kate Dicamillo, when I was younger and read The Tale of desperereaux I loved it……read it like 10 times….I want that new book even if it is for little people

  29. ping to team Yoshi Banana

Yeah I’ve seen spirited away and all those other movies. have you seen ponyo yet? my little sis wants to be her 4 holloween. I was just readin g Leviathan and I still like Alek but he can be SUPER stuck up somtimes SPOILER ALERT when he meets Deryn they are like bickering the whole time.
    Clankers
    Darwinists
    eh!
    ALL THEY DO IS FIGHT!!!!
They sort of make up and whatever though. I think Deryn’s character is more fun. the more i read it the more i like her! U SHOULD READ THE HUNGER GAMES!!! Awesome book 2!!! My friends think the same thing about sci-fi. I hust annoy them by talking about it non stop sooooo they read it. I actually got my library teacher 2 read it 4 book club. turns out she had read the hunger games and was obsessed! I was like YES…. ANYWAYS back 2 leviathan…. chapter books with pictures in it are really hard not to skip around in. I GAVE IN!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I to2ly cheat but I won”t do it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wagh!!!!!!
