Shay’s Story, the manga-style graphic novel telling the Uglies story from Shay’s POV, comes out February 28, 2012. Also known as 56 days from now!

During this eight-week countdown, I’ll be treating you to reveals of all the characters, one per week. We will be voting each week about what character to show, but because Croy would win all the votes, we’ll’ just start with him.

Here are three images of the same panel, showing the pencils, inks, and toned stages that every page goes through. And yes, I get to comment at every stage. Quality control!

  5. Jeeze, February can’t come fast enough! I totally can’t wait for the GN to come out! Perfect timing too as I just started reading the series to my hubby to get him into it! (We just finished Uglies!) I can’t believe it’s been over 5 years since I’ve read the series…but it’s just as good as I remembered it 🙂

    Though I gotta say, the manga look makes everyone look too “cute” to be “ugly”! How do we tell them apart from the Pretties? :3

  8. Hmm… I’m not really a manga person, but I’ll admit that I’m excited about this 🙂 I’m so getting it when it comes out. BUt I’m more looking forward to the Manual of Aeronautics. *drools* Oops. You didn’t see that…

    Haha, I will admit that I am slightly more excited for the Manual of Aeronautics, but Shay was always my favorite in Uglies, so I am excited for this. 😀

    Don’t get me wrong. I loved the Uglies series. That’s what got me reading YA. And I really loved Shay, too. It’s just that I’m not a fan of manga or anime.

  33. AHHHHHH! THAT IS AWESOME. I’ve convinced my dad to take me on his first visitation day after it comes out to the book store (since my mom hates book stores and refuses to take me…) so I’ll be getting it March 1st, I believe. Or February 29. WHATEVER THURSDAY IS FOLLOWING IT’S RELEASE!! :DD

  48. Ah, I LOVE art-reveals! God, this makes me want to read Uglies. Based on everybody here’s comments it’s a superb series, but I’ve always kind of dismissed it, mainly because I usually don’t like futuristic novels or movies. But perhaps my preconceived notions are false; perhaps it’s a true gem of that characteristically mediocre genre, like V For Vendetta. Hopefully…

    I miss the days when I first read Uglies. How exsided I was to fin out what happened next and I was always agitated and agrivaded I true to read slowly but one min im starting the book then before I know it I’m reading ‘Face it Tally-wa your special’ I’m all like wow that went by fast so I’m like sooooo friggen happy this manga book is coming out 😀

    Oh and I hear The Uglies movie is coming out in November 2012 😀
