First Aeronautics Art Reveal—A Vote!

Okay, the Manual of Aeronautics comes out August 21, a mere three months and a bit from now, so it’s time to start the art reveals!

In keeping with tradition, let’s have us a vote. I’ve chosen three possible pieces of art to reveal, so choose wisely.

Which would you rather see in glorious color?

1) The bridge of the Leviathan

2) A Sultan’s elephant walker

3) A fléchette bat!

Use the comments thread below to vote (by number makes it easier), or simply to cajole, convince and coerce your fellow commenters about how they should vote.

Sydneysiders! Don’t forget that Justine, Isobelle Carmody and I will be at the Sydney Writers Festival this Sunday. Come see us talk. It’s free!

A Neverending Story: Fantasy Worlds

From steampunk to the supernatural, from urban fantasies to dystopian futures, our love affair with speculative fiction is all-consuming.

Three authors who create imagined worlds explore our enduring fascination with fantasy and unpick the complexities of the genre. Isobelle Carmody, Scott Westerfeld and Justine Larbalestier talk to Joy Lawn.

Here are the online details for this event.

  1. #3 actually, since i’ve always been a bit confused as to what they are. Then #1 because its the LEVIATHAN, DUH, although #2 is probably the coolest-looking

i suppose there wont be a terribly lot of clanker stuff in here? Im a total clanker fan, hahaha

  2. I’m pretty sure there’s no chance in hell that anything but #1 is going to win, BUT I’m gonna go ahead and cast my vote for #3, a fléchette bat! 🙂

  3. numero uno!

I wonder if, since the manual will apparently include ottaman walkers, it will include the uniforms and styles of the ottaman empire. I’ve always been curious as to what the difference is between western and turkish clothing, because in the illustrations I didn’t see a difference….

  4. 1 all the way (but there are so many ones all the way to this point that you may not even need to scroll down this far.)

  5. I would like to see what a flechette bat looks like! but an elephant walker is just AWESOME!!!!

  6. I’m interested to see 3… although it seems we’ll be seeing 1 first… well anyways I VOTE 3.

  7. #2 would be cool. (Even though one seems to be too far ahead to compete with.) I happen to like machines a lot.
@Comment 33 on previous post: Apparently there ARE CLANKER THINGS in a British Manual of Aeronautics!!!!! See that with the caps? That was for EMPHASIS!!

  8. Number 1! I’d love seeing the Leviathan up close.
My second chokce would definately be the bats…

  9. Sadly I know that one shall win. But I ill still vote.

THREE. ME WANT THE BAT. ALL COLORIFIED.

  10. But after 1 I should like to see 3 as it is the only one without a close up illustration in the books.

  11. I believe the bridge because vladimir gvozdariki’s mechanical elephant is AMAZING and i’ve seen it already, courtesy of google images.

    Bridge – never before seen,

Flechette bats – look like normal bats.

This is supposed to be a dragonfly

  12. 1! I’ve always had a little trouble wrapping my had around the size and architecture of the leviathan. I want to see how things fit.
