More Sydney Appearances

Thanks to everyone for a fantastic time at Kinokuniya’s Free Comic Book Day. There was cake. I have proof:

Lots of people brought me cool fan art, which I’ll be sharing with you next Friday.

For you Sydneysiders who missed me, I’ll be appearing twice more in the next two weeks. The first one:

The Aurealis Awards
Saturday, May 12
7:30 for an 8PM start
Independent Theatre
269 Miller Street
North Sydney NSW 2060

The Aurealis Awards celebrate the achievements of Australian science fiction, fantasy and horror writers every year. Kate Forsyth with be mistress of ceremonies, and I’ll be presenting the award for Best Illustrated Book or Graphic Novel.

You can get tickets here.

And the second:

Sydney Writers Festival
A Neverending Story: Fantasy Worlds
Sunday, May 20
11:30AM-12:30PM
Me, Isobelle Carmody, Justine Larbalestier, and Joy Lawn (facilitator)
Sydney Dance 4, Pier 4/5, Hickson Road, Walsh Bay

From steampunk to the supernatural, from urban fantasies to dystopian futures, our love affair with speculative fiction is all-consuming.

Three authors who create imagined worlds explore our enduring fascination with fantasy and unpick the complexities of the genre. Isobelle Carmody, Scott Westerfeld and Justine Larbalestier talk to Joy Lawn.

Here’s the online details for this event.

And finally, here’s a little promo for my sister-in-law’s new e-book start-up, SnappyAnt. Her first app is an animated and read-out-loud iPad version of a picture book called My Mom’s the Best, by Rosie Smith, with illustrations by Bruce Whatley. You know, for Mother’s Day!

It’s all about wee baby beasties interacting with their moms, and is very cute.

Note that in Australia and UK iTunes store, it comes in its original Oz-English version: My Mum’s the Best. (Fight the power!)

You can check it out at the iTunes store.

Okay, that’s it. See you on Friday for FAFF, if not sooner.

  4. Hermionie: Wanna do something fun? Wanna go to Honeydukes?
Harry: No! I can’t go to Honeydukes! I’m on a no-sugar diet! GOD HERMIONIE YOU’RE SO STUPID!!!
    Hermionie: /._.\

  5. Harry: No! I can’t go to Taco Bell! I’m on a no-carb diet! GOD VOLDEMORT YOU’RE SO STUPID!!!
    Voldemort: -?

  6. Madame Hooch: I want you to mount your brooms. Make sure to hold on tightly. I don’t want you sliding off the end.

  10. So today some of my friends did a report on electrical energy and guess who they talked about? Nikola Tesla, the madman! And then I squealed this really loud fangirl squeal and was all like “TESLA!!!!” and everybody looked at me like “What is it with you and Tesla?!”

  11. @25- He came to Washington when Goliath came out. The convention he was at was one my dad had told me I should go to, but I didn’t end up going. Also, then I hadn’t read them and so, Scott Westerfeld had no significance to me. Still, it would have been AWESOME to actually see him, in the flesh.

  12. You will be sharing Fan art with us next Friday but how ’bout sharing some of that cake 😉

  13. Heh… I went to check this blog on my birthday, and opened it to find a picture of a birthday cake. Guess who was a bit disappointed? Ah, well. A new Scott Westerfeld novel is a good present 🙂

  14. Deck the halls with red berry shrubs that prefer acidic soil…tra-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la!

  17. @36 I am tired of looking out for what sounds wrong and obviously, I didn’t think about it…

  18. Im listening to Hatsune Miku…I cant understand it(its in japanese) but its catchy!!!

  19. *SOBSOBSOBSOBSOBSOSOBSOBSOBSOBSOBSOB* I just watched “Paper Plane” by rin and len (vocaloids) SO SAD SO SAD its about this boy (Len) who lives as a prisoner in a barrack and this girl (Rin) who has a disease that she knows will kill her. her dad works at the barracks. she sneaks out of the hospital every day to see the boy. they talk by sending paper airplanes over a barbed-wire fence. the dad finds out and rips up all the airplanes (which have messages on them) and locks up the boy. the girl dies from her disease and the boy dies from sadness. *SOBSOBSOBSOBSOBSOBSOBSOBSOBSOB*
