Obscure Series
« on: January 16, 2013, 06:56:51 AM »

We all have them. Our little fandoms that we think should get more fans but don't for one reason or antoher. Well, I've decided its time to let those fandoms that need more fans get those fans.
So post away my fellow forumers, show us those series that are better than what is well known but no one knows it.
I'll start us off...

Mortal Engines (obviously) by Phillilp Reeve
Boneshaker by Cherie Priest

But when someone makes a reference to them, is the reaction "oh...haha!" or "What?"

Interview with the Vampire and the Vampire Chronicles. Okay, so it‘s not THAT obscure. Okay, okay, it‘s really well known. However, I hardly know anyone who‘s actually *read* it aside from your usual Goth-types and those interested in fancy-schmancy writing. I‘d really like to meet some other fans of the series (in real life) to discuss the books (discussions other than OMG LESTAT IS SOOOOO HAAAAAWT).

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
Shiver was such a success, but any time you bring up the flesh-eating horse book people are all "It sounds like the Hunger Games." WHAT?! No. It's not even close!

I was just going to mention something....

Straif and Anchor beat me to it.  :P

Not even sure if I can count ME and airborn rare... Seen them locally in the new softcover versions. Just that no one seems to notice/buy/know them.

Boneshaker sure is rare... Even the Library has very limited copies, and not the complete set.

Oh, I know of an obscure Series. Worldshaker by Richard Harland (Straif already read that), and The Hunchback Assignments by Arthur Slade. Both steampunk. Steampunk is obscure in general.

The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver. I've loved them since about fourth grade, and (in my opinion) they're as good as Harry Potter. I don't know why they don't have more fans.

The Monstrumologist. It's good so far. My brother read the whole series.

I saw the Hunchback Assignments at my local bookshop...gotta get it next time I'm there.
As for The Monstrumologist, I heard its good. Jett-Wolf98 changed her Deviant-Art title to it for a bit.

FLAVIA DE LUCE!
I don't know the official name of the series, but yeah. The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie is a fantastic book.

Pendragon.
It's a great series of books, but not many fans that I know of.

Heard of it, have a friend who has a complete collection of both soft + hard cover version. Keeps telling me to read it... Maybe I will...
