Events, Online and Off

I won’t be formally touring this year, because I don’t have a novel out. But I might get to see some of you, thanks to several events I’ll be doing over the next month.

The first of these is an online chat with Figment.com.

Sunday July 8
8PM US-ET (5PM Pacific Time, 10AM Monday AUS-ET)

I’ll be chatting with Justine Larbalestier and Sarah Rees Brennan, co-authors of the upcoming book, Team Human. Mostly we’ll be discussing what it’s like to collaborate on a novel.

Click here to find out more.

I’ll also be at San Diego Comic Con

I have three events in San Diego, two signings and a panel.

Thursday July 12
noon-1PM

I’ll be signing and chatting to anyone who drops by. Mysterious Galaxy will have plenty of my books for sale.

Dalek Week!!!

And finally, those of you who create fan art might want to check out Dalek Week over at Deviant Art, which runs from July 8 to 14. Here’s the scoop:

Dalek week is a seven day challenge where you upload one deviation per day for seven days. Each day has a certain theme that you will need to centre your entry around. . . . After Dalek week, myself and the judges will decide on our favourite entries from each day. There will be one winner per day/theme.

That sounds fun, and I can’t wait to feature some of the winners here.

  1. Every time I see Dalek I think of Doctor Who. I love deviantart, I can’t draw but I’ll try and participate in Dalek week by oohing and ahhing at everyone’s work.

  2. Scott, since you (sometimes) live in Australia, or, Sydney, to be more exact, I’ve been wondering: Have you ever been to the Sydney Opera House?

  3. @1-Sometimes even people who (say they) can’t draw need to draw sometimes. Put your Deviantart account to GOOD USE and join in on the fun. I, like I said, don’t have an account, but plan on getting one. Anyways, even if you can’t draw, you’ll never learn if you never try!

  4. I just realized that January 4th is on a Friday! That means that there’s gonna be a FAF on my birthday!!!

  5. WOAH three events in San Diego?!?!?! EPICAWESOME!!!!!!!! I have a chance of meeting you!!!! I didn’t know they were ALL in San Diego!!!

  6. Every time I listen to “Love the way you lie” I think of Leviathan. I dunno. I guess it’s cause the “Just gonna stand there and watch me burn, it’s all right because I like the way it hurts” reminds me of Deryn, cause her da died in a burning balloon and it left her “dead shattered” and the “Just gonna stand there and hear me cry, it’s all right because I like the way you lie” reminds me of Alek because he was so upset when he found out that Deryn had lied about being a guy.

  7. I love Dalek Week! I hope I can make a dA account in time!

Also, since today is June 28th where I am, I would like to take a moment to remember Alek’s parents.

In loving memory of Franz Ferdinand and Sophie Chotek.

It is the 98th anniversary of their deaths.

  8. Hahaha I’m going to participate in Dalek week! I’m super excited 🙂 I’ve seen the stuff around on deviantArt from last year and been like, “what?” And now I understand. Muahahaha!

  9. And no, I have not spent all day on here. I’ve been playing Mega Run and recently went swimming.

  10. No FAF. Yeah, I’m kinda addicted to getting comment 1 right now.
And also, I’m writing an Uglies fanfic!!! I’m on chapter 2 right now!

  11. @30 Sounds like fun! are you on fanfiction?

Same @1 -totally think of Doctor who, but isn’t that spelled Darlek?

  12. @31-No, it’s just the British accent that everybody has makes it sound like Darlek. My sister thought the same thing.

  13. Team Human sounds like a good book. But, as a vampire novel, I hope it’s not like Twiglight.

  14. I don’t know if you’ll read this, Scott-la, but I just got my first book published, and I would LOVE some help. I know that facebook and Twitter are two good tools, but I don’t have one of either. I do have a Wattpad (you Tweeted a link for one of the stories on Wattpad last summer), but I’m not very good at getting the word out. What would you suggest? How do you promote your new books?

    Please and thanks,
    pink896heart of Wattpad

  15. wow… when I look at last year’s entries… I lose my confidence in the art work I’ve drawn more and more… even after persuading myself “This isn’t really to win for me, it’s to have fun”. I will still try my best though! I am also going to be writing poetry for some of the themes 🙂

  16. Hi, long time no see Mr. W,
Sorry in advance for this question you probably get it a 100 bajillion times and I know it’s been answered on the blog before but can’t seem to find it anywhere T_T’. I know you’re really busy and all but I need you help to save a pairing between Newkirk and Lilit!
I remeber you mentioned Lilit’s sexuality before, what was it again?
Thanks in advance you’re helping the fan fiction world with this!
