The Leviathan anime is out now, on Netflix.
It’s been a long journey and a wonderful one, thanks to the extraordinary work by Studio Orange and Qubic Pictures. So much amazing talent has been poured into this series, somehow caputuring all three books in twelve short episodes. It sounds mad, but it works!
I’ve seen the books in my local bookstore in the Philippines but never got a chance to read it. Seeing that it became an anime I was quite intrigued so I started watching it and loved the story! It was really well done, I also read that there were quite a number of changes so I’m excited to pick up your books in the coming days to read your story in detail. ?
Been waiting ages for this to come out… Definitely a lot of interesting changes here and there… But overall I’m so happy we got this show! I wish there was more ???
I first became aware of your Leviathan books during an interview with you on ABC radio (scarily, now that I think about it) many years ago. That prompted me to buy them, read them and thoroughly enjoy them – even though I was well past the “young adult” demographic!
It was only in the last week that I was contemplating introducing them to my daughter. Then today I discovered the anime adaptation on Netflix and well, it’s one of those strange coincidences that feel portentous.
I’m thrilled to see this adaptation, I’m two episodes in now and loving it.
I’m also incredibly happy for you. I’m not an author so I can’t speak with authority on the subject, but an anime adaption like this is something I would consider a big deal! Thank you for the books! I am looking forward to enjoying the rest of the anime series, and also introducing my kids to the world of Leviathan!
Can we pleae get a continuation of their story? Like when they are older like 18 or up. Just love these characters and world so much it seems a shame to not explore it more.
Just watched the show and I loved it, going to read the books now. I really hope for a continuation to see where this fantastic story goes.
I’ve been looking into a a lot of information surrounding the making of the show. And I get a lot of the book has to be condensed for a show format. But I just can’t get over how many different changes there were from book to movie. Was really hoping for a 1 to 1 adaptation.
I loved the books and I had always wished to see a movie adaptation bring them to life. When I found out about the anime, I was so incredibly happy!
I quite enjoyed it and I think the series managed to convey quite beautifully the concept of the carachers and their story 🙂 I think I’ll go back re-reading the books now ?
I’m so happy to see the anime come to life!!! ? I remember reading this as a kid and now I get to see it in action! What a throwback!!! Currently binging it!!!!
I barely remember details but I hope it is doing the books justice. For someone who’s forgotten most of it, it’s extremely entertaining and great!
Only watched the first couple of episodes but I’ve enjoyed it so far!! I read the books years ago so have forgotten a lot of the little details, but the story was still easy to follow and had the major plot points I could remember! Can’t wait to watch the rest and see all three books on screen!
I have been pacing like a beastie trapped inside a Clanker cage while waiting for this to come out, and I was not disappointed!! It’s short, and different, but I ADORE it!
How you nabbed studio Orange AND Joe Hisashi I have no earthly idea, but I can’t believe I am living in this timeline. I had very high expectations, and my only disappointment is it’s short and I want to see more of everyone and everything! (Though 12 episodes is still a lot to make!)
I’m back again to comment and thank you for letting your story become animated! Leviathan was the first YA book I picked up that had illustrations inside, and as a young artist it’s always been a huge inspiration for me. I remember redrawing favorite scenes inspired by Keith’s work, and now years later I’m back again after watching the anime and doing the exact same thing! Thank you for being an inspiration when I was a teen, and now as an adult! Your story and characters have given me inspiration and courage to follow my dreams both as a creative and as a person.
May you find as much joy as you’ve given fans like me, and then some!
Now I’m going back for a 5th watch of the anime, my mom just finished the books, and we’re spending time together talking and watching all things Leviathan!
I really appreciated the interview, it added so much deed to how the novels were adapted, it’s an amazing story, 12 episodes just felt so short, the three books already feel so short.
