Yes, you read that right, and I’m typing it again, because it’s that much fun:

Manga. Head. Explosive. Goo.

It’s a brand of hair gel made by Garnier, to create those delicious mohawk-tastic heads of hair just like your fave manga characters. Don’t believe me? Here’s the website.

  4. Um if you want a picture of the Manga Head Explosive Goo in stores, you don’t really need one, seriously, if you’re in Aus atm, go to coles or Woolworths, shampoo aisle, they’re EVERYWHERE with a bunch of other Garnier products, I have like all of them 😀

    Foreign covers are cool. I think when Necropolis by Anthony Horowitz is available in the US I’ll order it on Amazon so I can get the English cover (it is sooo much cooler. Don’t believe me? Look it up on B&N and Amazon).

Hey Scott, this is a purely random comment to tell you that my 48-year-old, married-with-two-kids mother, who doesn’t read, ever, beyond Woman’s World Weekly, Reader’s Digest, or the latest Sylvia Browne, loves the Uglies series so much that after she recently thumbed through the copy I had lying on my kitchen table, she ran out and bought every single book for herself. I’m know you were totally writing for middle-aged middle America with those, so there you go. 😉

  15. hurray for Organization XIII and Kingdom Hearts! this post totally made my day…and being a fellow cosplayer like the ones in the picture, i can tell you that making gravity-defying spikes is killer.

    i’m not sure exactly how many cosplayers use the manga head explosive glue (i haven’t actually heard of it before) but i do know that most of the cosplay community swears by got2be freeze blasting hairspray. it’s like magic. seriously 0.o

    Wow, manga hair, just what I’ve always wanted. I think the Manga Head Explosive Goo would be even cooler if it, you know, exploded. And speaking of explosions, what’s with the “Leviathan mines”? Is that a vague reference to something that happens in the book, or am I reading too much into this?

    Dahlia-wa: You’re totally right. This hair stuff gives me the urge to dress up as sailor moon or something for Halloween. Though, her hair couldn’t technically be described as “explosive.”

  36. OMG, THE HAIR! It looks like plastic headgear. Ack. But it’ll be pretty cool. Some day, when my parents finally let me, I’m gonna go cosplay as Yuuko Ichihara.

    Ahhh!!! The doll cover looks both creepy and cool at the same time with the wordplay, as well. I’m not sure if I want it sitting on my shelf.

    The Russian cover of Touching Darkness looks pretty fawesome, although I wouldn’t pick those outfits for fighting off darklings and slithers.

    Though I’m Russian I can’t understand why Jess has blond hair… It’s weird.

I never made it to american girl place 🙁 my doll was Samantha- she’s still in my room auctually, lol I totally agree, (about the taking justine to ag place) but you’d have to tell us when, I’d love to see the look on her face! lol that was kinda mean, but whatever 😛 hey did anybody get their hands on love is hell? I just bought it last night and so of course I’m done 😛 I LOVED Scott-la’s one, it was too cute!   77. Hi! I am new and have nowhere else to share this! I had an Uglies/Extras dream last night. It was awesome and kind of ridiculously organised for a dream. I’ll just type a short version, for any interested.

    It started like the books, I was in a dorm, it was all normal, then the Rebellious Girl came and taught me how to hoverboard (it was awesome). Then we went out and hoverboarded all over the city until late, and then we came back to my dorm room because I had to go to work.

    As I was finding clothes, Rebellious Girl hid a letter under the top mattress of my bunk bed. She thought she was clever, so I was all “Why do you think I even have a top mattress?” and pulled out a bag of contraband items. To which I said “Aren’t they cool?? This is what we get to have at 16!” (Which, I regressed in this dream as I am almost 19) and to which she freaked out and yelled that I’d get in so much trouble if I was found with them.

    Then the Older Ugly came and gave me an old bunny-rabbit toy and told us to run away. So then me and this Frizz-like character were packing my car (?) when a patrol turned up. We were all trying not to move but they saw us anyway. Then their leader turned up, and they were just going to tell us off for being out late, when he saw the bunny.

    SPECIAL DUDE: Where did you get this? No bunnies inside city limits!
    ME: I found it in the street?
    FRIZZ: Someone gave it to us!

    Then they told us to go upstairs and clear out our rooms. Once we were in the building we were all “THEY’RE GOING TO KILL US.” and ran. I missed the elevator my friends took, tried the other one, then ran up the fire escape. It was like ladders. I got to a floor that was like the cleaning staff area and ran through.

    I got to the elevator seconds after the electrician gave up and said he didn’t know what they’d done to the doors. They were making them stutter open and closed, and then I tried to dive through but failed, so they held the door open and then I got in.

    SPECIAL: Please reconsider running.
    ME: Now that I’m in the elevator, not a chance.

    And so we went off down to the basement to see a movie. Or rather, to lose our pursuers in a movie theatre. So we get off the elevator and the Specials are already there and we all split up to go find different screenings of HP and the Deathly Hallows to confuse them. I went into one, but I got in there and it was a scary Special woman at the front, reading statements from people who had snitched on runaways, and the one she was reading was by Pinocchio, and that is when my alarm went off.

    Yeah, it got weirder at the end. My ‘friends’ transformed into various people, including my writing lecturer. But yeah, thanks for the dream entertainment, Scott!

  79. Elodia: Wow, your dream was interesting. I never have dreams about books, strangely enough. Though I’ve had a couple of dreams where I was trapped inside video games (Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, but I think it’s just because I played them too much). 🙂

    Would hoverboards work during the blue time.
    I have been going over this forever, because, heres the thing:
    Hoverboards are magnetized right? and it you have two magnets in your hands during the blue time, they would stick together like any normal time, right? So maybe hoverboards could work in the blue time. But, I dunno. I think only you could answer that.
    This had been an ongoing discussion in my family for a very long time… And, yet no one can come up with an answer. Sigh.

    On the blog: A lot of people are talking about Disney, and I stand with most of you people. The Disney classics are pretty good, some of the old series are decent, but the new stuff kind of scares me. Did you guys see the new commercial they have for a movie with Mitchel Musso staring as a guy with a secret identity as a mascot in a chicken suit? I mean, COME ON! They have truely lost it.
    As far as Vanessa Hudgens, she actually wasn’t going to get the part in the first HSM originally. If any of you watch Degrassi: The Next Generation, you’ll know the character Manny. The actor who plays her is named Casey Steel, she’s amazing, and SHE was originally going to get the part. Stupid filming conflicts….

Some of the things that are revealed really surprised me. Sadly, I heard it gets worse starting the third season and that the fourth season is torture (stupid new writers), but so far it’s amazing.   210. Yeah Jay-wa. Turner Syndrome is very rare. It only occurs in every 2,500 live female births. And yes, I’m “Touched” by Turner’s. When you read about it, it sort of seems bad, but when you really think about it, and if you know someone who has Turner’s, you can see that there are actually many advantages us girls with it have. We all are very good at music and writing (at least I am), have nice, big hair, and arn’t affected by the crazy teenage hormones… I’m not going to detail on that last one, though… at least not here where guys can read… but anyways. Yeah. The annual TSSUS confrence this year is on July 17-19, in Portland Oragon. And my dad is starting a local group, called chapter, of TSSUS here in San Antonio, so I can finnally meet another girl with it who actually lives close to me!

  221. aw…i missed posting on Friday the 13th. i had off skool. then i went snowboarding for the first time wich was really dumb coz i think i busted my shoulder…again. ya…i just got done with physical therapy and now it’s in A LOT of pain!! ugh!!! stupid teenage brain!!!! i had fun tho…at least i think i did.

Like, after me and my dad came home from last years confrence, I showed my mom the group picture of the Teen group, which I’m in now, and she was pointing out how all of us have big hair.   241. Trish-la: Manga- Whimsical pictures, basically comic books, but because they are a compilation, they would be graphic novels also. Not that it makes a difference, if they’re Japanes (or Korean or fatefully German) it’s easier to call them manga. So basically there was no point to what I just said.

    Jay-wa: Yes. It is an amazing read. As I finished reading it today that makes today awesome. I recommend all of John Green’s books even though I have only read Looking for Alaska and 3/4’s of An Abundance of Katherine’s which is also good, but not as good as Looking for Alaska

    Aryll-wa: I don’t know if you’ve read other John Green books. I’ve notice from the two I’ve (so far) read that he starts them off kind of slow, so that might make it a little hard to get in to.

    Kim: Kingdom Hearts is a game referred to as an “anime game.” Anime because of the style of the game (large eyes, crazy hair, and exaggerated expressions) is similar to the cartoons on TV. Anime are usually based on a manga, the Japanese equivalent to American comic books, so the term “manga head” is transitive.

  242. Uh, Drew-La, it’s Japanise. I, well me and my friends worked on Uglies almost all day. All I can say right now is that I smell like campfire smoke! Haha. Well, it was too dark to film anything, and Savanna had to leave, so me and Anthony just hung for a while by the fire taking cool pics. The best ones will be on my site shortly. Haha.     Drew-la: How I distinguish mangas and graphic novels/ comic books are easier. The one you read normally, as in from left to right are graphic novels/ comic books. Mangas are the ones that are read ‘backwards’ or right to left. Makes the taxonomy less taxing. xD

    Forever last: Those song lyrics are really cool. maybe you could record an audio version? Because, in my mind I’m imagining them with the guitars blasting and the drums being bashed.

  256. I’m in a crisis, ya’ll. I have no book to read! Well, I got Undone a few weeks ago, but it’s just not doing anything to me. When a week has gone by and I’m not even halfway done, you know that book isn’t very good. *Sigh* well, I guess I either try to finish it or give up and return it to the library. I gave my friend, also Tally, Marked. I hope she’s started reading it. The House of Night series is the best series I’ve ever read. And I’ve read Twilight and Harry Potter and loved them. So that is definatly saying something.

  258. alex-wa: the mysterious benedict soceity was amazing if you want to read that- the cover looks a little childish, but it really is an amazing book. like, I was sad when it ended 😛 or….. the house of the scorpion was really great too. I didn’t think it would be, but it really was. at the begining there was a list of characters, and there was about 40 of them, but it was auctually really easy to keep up. if you liked twilight then maybe the host? same author. my friends really loved wicked lovely, but not so much for me 😛 have you read love is hell? I loved it so much! some of them were.. odd to say the least, but they were still good. (and one of them is twilight with purple eyes and insane asylums :P) oh and I just finished fablehaven, and that was ok… it was a while before a real plot came in… like, you’d think a plot was coming, and…. nothing 😛 it was still good, though

  264. Tally&david, I love the Vampire Diaries, too! Except I think it was way better than Uglies. Not that I don’t love Uglies, too!! I think Uglies is awsome, too! It’s only a little better than Uglies. And the House of Night series is the best series in the world, with Harry Potter. Twilight is below that, with Maximum Ride, Uglies, Skinned, and The Midnighters below that. Hm… something like that… The trailer was set back a little in my opinion. It’ll come out in 2 weeks, hopefully. Hopefully next week! Sorry ’bout that guys. Savanna’s parents are just real protective of her, and she refuses to argue with them! On the other hand, Anthony’s parents never even say when to come back home when he’s over. So if you just have to blame someone, blame Savanna’s parents. But really, it doesn’t matter much anyways.
