First, Justine has revealed her paperback cover for How to Ditch Your Fairy. It is generally considered to be the best cover of ALL TIME.

Second, this Wii Balance Controller hack is hoverboard-tastic! These German guys use the Wii data to navigate Google Earth, so it’s like your hoverboarding at about 10 kilometers altitude.

Check it out:

Obviously, this is a fairly crude hack, and Google Earth is too satellite-scale for hoverboard-like action. But imagine a smaller-scale version, where you could board through a cityscape or whatever-scape, whipping around buildings and through trees.

Then imagine a bit of role-playing thrown in, with Specials and Cutters and Smokies and smuggling in the Cure and Rusty Ruin environments, and I think you can see that it would be REALLY COOL.

I’m just saying.

  4. 1st- when I looked at this and it said Feb. 24 I totally had a moment. It is Feb. 23 right now where I am and the date ahead of me kinda scarred me. Then I realized he must be in Australia. Then I was like duh.

  39. I totally picked up How to Ditch Your Fairy at Barnes and Noble on Sunday! I started reading it yesterday, finished it today – I loved it! So cute, and I love how she casually brings in some made-up or different slang like Mr. Westerfeld does.
    I also noticed a few Uglies references, I wondered if that was intentional?
    Anyway, great book. I wanted to buy it paperback (because I’m cheap) but it was totally worth the price of 16.99 for a hardcover book.
    By the way, I think I have a Teacher’s-Pet fairy. All teachers like me. I don’t even try!

  49. personally i dont like that cover one bit…and im not just saying this but i think the coolest covers are the uglies series books and really any scott westerfield book… also it would be so cool to have a virtual hoverboard game with like a hoverboard cover for the wii balance board….scott you should totally suggest it to someone…i would definitley buy it…its so bubbly-making

  50. I gotta say, I love those Germans. They also have amazing accents…But Personally, abandon the fake one (it’s cool and totally fantastic but) get cracking on a real one! I lack the skills/knowledge/follow-through/resources to make on, otherwise I’d be on that like white on rice.

    The cover is cool (I already commented on Justine’s blog a couple days ago..) but I also like the old one. (..buy them both…)

  51. Dang. Someone commented on my site some… well, hard stuff. Everyones a critic. Well, I did ask for advice, so I can’t complain, of course… we did the best we could at the time! I’m working on another version of the trailer that’s more professional. And the music in the background- get this- i don’t even have it! I just played it with my high quality stereo and recorded it, which is probably why it sounded “echoey”. I need to buy that Catwoman CD so it’ll be much better! We’re on like a zero budget film thing here! Well, it’s definatly not going to end up zero budget…

I don’t really talk to anyone except my one guy friend at lunch and on the bus unless they talk to me. I just sit there, listen with out even nessicarily looking at the teacher, and do my work. Except homework. I’m failing a class that I’m pretty good at just because I’m not turning in my homework! Yep. Very quiet. But I guess my true nature is hyperness. I wear sortof a mask at school.     The whole idea of an Uglies game is completely awesome, but when you add the possibility of playing as yourself (only cooler), it gets, like, a hundred times more fawesome!
    Ooh, and it would be really cool if you could unlock different features for your avatar when you switched from being an ugly to a pretty to a special!!! 😀 It would be totally doos!

  99. I’m not so sure about the game following the book (if there ever is a game, that is). I mean, where’s the surprise??? You’d already know everything you had to do, it could kind of take away from the fun. I think it would be cooler if there were multiple storylines going on at once, and your actions in the game determined what your future objectives were going to be. 🙂
    Maybe their should be five games. One for every book, plus another based in the same world but with a different story.

  112. if there was an uglies video game i think it should start out with 1 mode, ugly story mode.
    once ur character becomes a pretty u get to have a free play in ugly ville or the smoke or rusty ruins, and u can still sneak in to new pretty town but only to crash parties.
    once u finish the pretty story mode and ur character becomes a special, u get to have free play in ugly ville and the other places or new pretty town or the reservation or the new smoke.
    once u finish the special story, u can travel around diego, rusty ruins, and forest places, u unlock extras story
    once u finish the extras story u get free play in aya’s town and surrounding areas, the extra’s camp setup and space

    in the story modes u can have more of a choice on what to do, but no matter what the ending will always be the same.
    in free play u can unlock extras, like clothes, different styles of hoverboards, different surges, and other technology things by completeing small missions/quests/jobs.

    well, that’s my idea

  117. Wow. I love the whole video game idea! But I think there should be two modes–The one Aryll-wa proposed and then like a free-play one. Where you just get to hover around. (Kinda like Sims2 for PS2…for those people who SUCK at video games..)

  122. Eva-la, HON is like the best series in the entire world, tied up only with Harry Potter! That’s how good it gets! It might not seem like it yet, though. I remember reading Chosen. But boy… when you get Untamed…………. It will just leave you breathless. Completely breathless. Trust me on that. You will understand why I think it’s so good when you get to Untamed.

The real Uglies movie is coming out in 2011, and the one me and my friends are making just for fun is coming out this Summer in a series form. And my school has it’s own competition: Warren Idol.   142. Dude, I’m so mad. I was watching american idol last night, only cuz I’m obsessed with Adam Lambert and his hottness/awesomeness. And he sang, and it was amazing then Randy was all like “Yeah…blahblahblah…” Then compared him to Fall Out Boy which is a VERY VERY GOOD thing, but then he’s like “…Crossed with Robert Pattinson.” UM NO. NO WAY. Robert Pattinson can NOT sing to save his life, so I was very offended. But in other news, we had a tea party role playing thing today in Honors English and it was hilarious. We were role playing characters from Great Expectations(very boring book) and I ended up getting Clara Barley, Herbert Pocket’s fiancee and turns out that the tea was in honor of them getting married. So I was like Uhhh, WHAT?! And it was really embarassing but crazy funny, I couldn’t stop laughing. But then my stupid teacher who was acting as Mr. Wopsle, was like “And May you have a wonderful marriage and MANY MANY lovely children!” And I was like, “What?! Children?! THAT WASN’T PART OF THE DEAL!” But then the guy who was Herbert was like “Sokay, we can have like 50 cats instead!” It was sooooo funny.

    acting out Romeo and Juliet last year had many of those…cause in a lot of scenes the guy characters were beign played by girls and vice versa. like when “Romeo” misspoke the line “my heart is set/ on the fair daughter of rich Capulet” and instead she said “my heart is set/ on the fair father of rich Capulet.” That was HILAROUS. Our english teacher just looked at us laughing and said “That would have made it a WHOLE different story…”

  179. Thats funny that you hate it when you see someone read a book you love at school, because when I see that I love it! Sometimes, I’ll walk up to them and say “Hey! That’s a really good book!” I get mad when I see someone bypass one of my fav books at Barnes & Nobles, though. I feel like walking up to them and telling them to get the book… LOL.   188. I think it really depends on the person on whether they should read fast or slow. Like I’m a fast reader, I read all of Scott’s books in a day each. And The Harry Potter books. But that’s just me, cuz I get bored with it if I read slow. But my brother, he’s gotten into reading too(finally), and he’s a really slow reader otherwise he won’t remember what happens in it.
