Radio Interview

radio.jpg

I did an interview with Public Radio International late last year, and the results have finally appeared online in an episode of To the Best of Our Knowledge, called “Apocalyptic Fictions.” I’m one of three authors (and one editor) interviewed. The whole thing is pretty interesting, featuring tales of zombies, warnings of mass extinctions, and ponderings of epidemics. What’s not to love?

I’m a bit out of place, actually, talking about the post-apocalyptic world of Uglies and Extras. All the other books are set during an apocalypse, which is a different sort of thing. Still, I’m always happy to be included.

Here’s radio KUAR’s page about the episode.

And here’s the MP3 if you want to listen to the show.

If you’re in a hurry and want to skip the other authors, I’m the last interview, about 75% of the way in. But they’re all good, really.

Warning: If you saw me on tour, the stories may sound a bit familiar. But I’ve only got so many jokes in me, okay?

  1. 39. never let your friends know that things poping out at you scare you, b/c then every chance they get they will scare you and they will hide behind every corner & in your closet. ahhhhhhhhh the terror!!!!!!!

haha yes, i get scared very easily. ok funny story time….it was May-day one year and me and my friend had just got done playing soccer all day and we made these little may day baskets for each other and we took her home and she said to go give one of my other friends their may day basket (she just lived like 3 houses down) & then come back and give her hers. so i did. then i jumped into my moms mini-van and told her to drive away fast and wouldn’t ya know it, my friend hid in the trunk and so we were driving and all of a sudden she pops out and grabs me. i totally freak out and then open the door and start running down the street like a crazy person. so i finally get back in the car we go home and like 10 mins later my mom tells me to go hide outside cuz my friends mom just called and said they were coming over to bring me a may day basket and so i hid my friend saw me and ran around the house and my mom let her and her mom in the back door and i didn’t know it so i was looking around the house for like 5 mins. then i finally went in and i found her mom easily. then i went upstairs to look for my friend and she was hidding in my closet and it was cracked open just a little bit and so i walked in my room said “i know your in there, i see you” and so i wait a minute, she pops out and scares the crap out of me i go flying backwards onto my bed…roll off and fall on my trash can and break it. lol. it was hilarious.

ok so sorry that was like a really long story. i should work on condensing it. but i won’t. cuz i’m too lazy. ha.

  2. 41. When you stay the night at someones house and they have a really cute brother; make sure your not laughing the whole time and end up need tummies because your stomach hurts.

  3. 42. Make sure you think about what your going to say and if it makes since or you end up blurting out “Look Mom, the blinker is blinking!”

  4. 43:If you’re at your friends house and your friend just so happens to have a cute brother, do not, I repeat NOT, tell your friend that you think he’s cute until AFTER you leave. It’s like mini soap opera . *shivers*gags*runs away from computer screaming*(j.k.)
    See Ya!

  5. 44. Don’t tell your classmate’s girlfriend that he is in your Algebra 1 class, a REACH, GT, or TAG class (whatever you want to call it), because it is frequently refered to as the retarted class and she will possibly dump him…then you’ll have to explain WHY she dumped him..

  6. I would listen to the mp3, but it would probably crash my computer. Feels like being crap today.

I think that picture makes the post absolutely lovely! 😛
