This is going to be a big year for me. Leviathan is my first new series to come out since Uglies appeared way back in . . . 2005!

For you ancient history buffs, the first books of both Midnighters and my so-called “New York Trilogy” (So Yesterday, Peeps, and TLD) appeared in 2004. So it has been a long time . . .

Anyway, here’s what happens this year:

April 28 (a mere 3 weeks away!)
The paperback edition of Extras is released! Now, at long last, you can line up all four books in matching editions. You can pre-order now, from Amazon, Powell’s, B&N, or Indie Bound.

The cool thing about the Extras paperback is that it contains previously unseen chapters from Leviathan, complete with delicious artwork!

May 1
Starting in May, the first of every month will be Leviathan Art Day. That’s right, I’ll be blogging one piece of art every month until the book comes out.

But don’t worry. You won’t be utterly spoiled by this, because there are FIFTY (50) pieces of art in the first book of Leviathan. So much art.

Be prepared for the artiness!

Advanced readers’ copies for Leviathan are given out at Book Expo America! And I’ll be there to sign them. (To those of you not in the book trade, this is merely frustraing, I know. But it’s cool for me.)

June 2 (minor update)

Mind-Rain, an anthology of essays about the Uglies series, appears in stores! Here’s the cover:

The Geektastic anthology goes on sale! Edited by Holly Black and Cecil Castellucci, this collection includes stories by M.T. Anderson, Libba Bray, Cassandra Clare, Tracy Lynn, Cynthia and Greg Leitich Smith, David Levithan, Kelly Link, Barry Lyga, Wendy Mass, Garth Nix, Lisa Yee, Sara Zarr, and me. We’re all writing about the geeky proclivities that made us who we are, from role-playing games to Quizbowl.

It’s going to rock, geekily.

August 21-25-ish (minor update)

The publication of Leviathan!

This is, of course, the big day for me. I’ve been working on this book for four years (I started it before I started Extras) so it will be mind-bendingly exciting.

Along with the book will come a world-spanning tour. (Well, spanning from the US to the UK, Canada, and Australia.) For three weeks or so, I’ll be traveling around and meeting you guys in person. I don’t know yet where I’m headed exactly, but watch this space in August and September for details.

More about Leviathan in later posts, of course.

Astonishingly, you can already pre-order it from Amazon and Indie Bound, but B&N and Powell’s don’t have it yet.

Leviathan too! It comes out a day before my birthday! *starts hyperventilating* Ohmygoshohmygosh. Scott-la, I am crossing my fingers and doing everything lucky and like praying that you’ll come to California. Maybe San Francisco? That’s a big city, and it’s close enough so I could come! My life would be complete…

    just since spring break has started i:
    -pulled weeds
    -hair cut!
    -pulled more weeds
    -gone to jelly belly factory in a limo
    -blasted music in that limo
    -had a sleep over
    -dusted
    -eaten nothing but sugar goodness
    -spent hours at a scrapbooking store looking for paper
    and lotsa other stuff that takes up my sleepy time

    Don’t forget about Mind Rain! I know Leviathian is the big thing but I’m totally stoked for Mind Rain. I don’t actually read many teen authors’ work, so I’m hoping Mind Rain will give me a few leads to follow, as well as awesome stuff about Uglies.

    If the first chapter of Leviathian from Bogus to Bubbly is any indication of how awesome the rest of the series will be, it’ll be awesome.

    Do they always have a set amount of days before a book comes out that you can pre-order it? first time you told us we could pre-order Extras April 3, this post April 7. Release of Extras October 2(2007), release of Leviathan October 6. I do believe there is a correlation.

    Secondly, I am not surprised but still, I wish that Mr. Westerfeld could just come to Singapore… >.<

    I have been wanting to get the Midnighters series…since my birthday is coming, maybe I should just ask my friends to get me some book vouchers so that I can get them. LOL!

    I am incredibly excited about the release for Leviathan and the The Collector’s Set as well! I had been planning to get the UGLIES Boxed Set but looks like I just have to wait for this version now!

    I have one question though and anyone who’s knows the answer to it are welcome to answer!

    I doubt that there’s the extra content installed in the UGLIES Boxed Set can be found in The Collector’s Set. However, what’s the “Exculsive Content” actually in the UGLIES Boxed Set? Can it be found in Bogus to Bubbly? If so, is there any difference in it?

  87. I for one don’t think that So Yesterday is part of the Peeps series. If you look on the main site they both have completely different sections and are listed seperately under his bibliography. The only thing they have in common is being set in New York, hence why Scott said “so called “New-York-Trilogy” in quotation marks. They’re a trilogy in setting only.

  90. Is there any way you could come remotely close to Wisconsin again, like you did for Extras? No author ever comes within a hundred miles of where I live, with the exception of Stephenie Meyer two years ago… when I was in Colorado… lameness.

  214. hello people, i have jst finished reading bogus to bubbly and found it soooou awesome! i adoorrre the hoverboard manual, noww i can picture the gadgets in my head. i am also watching the mummy at the moment and it is really hilarious. i am not really new here, but i read it all the time, this is roughly the tenth thing i have posted i think. hello everyone out there! i love reading and am trying to write a novel at the moment, i have the plot and 11,000 words, just need to put the rest down lol. i would love it , if any of you like short stories, if you could check out the book i have my short story published in.   221. Woahs. Today was awesome. Have you guys heard of the Every 15 Minutes program thingy? It’s where they go to highschools(only for the juniors and seniors though, grr.) and depict an alcohol related car accident and they have crashed up cars and choose students to act it all out before anybody knows about it and the fire department, emts, and police are involved and they even have a helicopter come and medi-flight one of the students in the “accident” to the hospital and they take one to jail and the other “dies” I think and all day you see a grim reaper taking juniors and seniors out of their classes every 15 minutes and nobody knows who’ll be next and random tombstones pop up all over the classes with peoples names on them. It’s really creepy, but amazing cuz it opens your eyes.

  248. Really? I’m not allowed to even bring food upstairs, unless there’s a good reason. Especially not in my room… we eat at the breakfast table. We only eat in the dinning room on rare special occasions, including Thanksgiving. Actually, we like never even do that! Lately we’ve been just moving the couches out of the living room and combining the 2 tables and just eat together with our guests there. It’s cool!   295. I’m so excited about this post! I’m vastly excited about the Geektastic anthology! I read one of M.T. Anderson’s books, and it was amazing. I love anthologies because they’re like little taste-tests of other authors writing. October 6th! *cough-michigan-michigan-michigan-michigan-michigan-michigan-cough* Tour! (I’m looking forward to december) The Uglies Collectors edition is B-E-A-utiful. I’m excited for the art. So so so so excited. New reason to look forward to may–ART!!

  297. We don’t have elementary school and middle school graduations where I’ve lived, just High school graduations… I wish we did, though, cuz that sounds cool… my hair used to be long, but I get it cut every few years to donate to Locks of Love.

Ha my spring break was a long time ago… we have today off (Friday) because… oh, wait, it just turned 1, so yesterday we had off… it was Good Friday for most of the world (Except for Orthodox christians because we use the old calender, which at times can be very annoying), and in SA we have a like HUGE catholic population, so like we get Good Friday off… it’s cool, even I don’t celebrate it today, but oh well…

  350. OMG!!! i absolutly loved this series more than practically everything else ive read. I got it last year when i still needed reading points so i decided just to get it so i earned my points… I LOVED IT!!! i think it would be amazing if you like made a prequel to everything. Starting with what made the whole uglies/pretties thing begin. It could talk about how the rusty world fell apart (other than war)
